FdG, the most frustrating ship out there
Ubertron_X replied to SNAPHAAN's topic in General Discussion
Actually I found the FdG to be quite decent as it really plays like an oversized Gneisenau or Bismarck. I rather found it was the GK who breaks the "feeling" of the KM line due to its incredibly bad handling and restricted gun angles, even if it might be the better ship, especially considering the meta change starting at T8. -

Mechanism to stop accidental use of doubloons
Ubertron_X replied to FearsomeFlotsam's topic in General Discussion
I was not aware that I actively chose my payment method. To me it looks rather pre-set once I enable the resupply... And even if something is legal it may still not be the right thing from a moral or ethical point of view. Ask Satan next time you click some box and have to pay with your firstborn because it was some obscure paragraph somewhere in the fine print. It is as much the sellers responsibility to create the contract that is clear to all parties as it is the buyers responsibility to read said contract. And that the system does not memorize your choices does not help either. Ever disable the resupply or demount camo / flags for any reason? Have to deselect every damn box again... -

Making use of such a coupon only maked sense if you do want to buy something for cash right now instead of having to wait for a decent sale (x-mas or aniversaries). Else just skip. -

Hindenburg Nerf - An conceptual failure

How about 8km torps T9+ (or even T8+)? You know, the Spee ones... -
Maybe WG should be a little more precise if the various boni they assign will be calculated by adding up the percentage values or by multiplying them, repectively if their "bonus" is assigned to the total value or to the already existing bonus? On the other hand plus 25% sounds a lot better than plus 1.25% from a marketing point of view... For OP out of the wiki:

Boring endless grind stages for Cossack

The problems with torpedo DD's are: 1) Optimum torpedo range of in between 6km to 7km has drastically been increased due to the appearance of lots of radar capable ships. If you have ever tried the short range torps in the Shima in the current meta you will have noticed that they are almost unplayable. Most torps will need to be dropped in between 9km and 12km thus greatly reducing their effectiveness. 2) Apperance of low concealment gunboat DD's have made torpedo DD's lives even more dangerous. If you want to torp capitcal ships you usually have to beat the enemy DD screen first (and then pray that the enemy does not turn tail and runs away). If you can not sufficiently outspot the gunboats (400 to 500m) than you will be hurt as much as they are, perhaps even more (if equally supported). 3) General concealment is too low. There is hardly a chance to detect enemy CA and BB behind an enemy DD screen unless you are spotted by the enemy DD and they shoot you (which is too late for the majority of DD players).
-
My suggestions to improve positioning (not only for DD's)? DD's should be spread evenly across the map, especially on domination maps. CA's should always be placed on the flanks in order to protect them from early BB crossfire once the DD&CA cap fights start. BB's should always be placed center to literally have them in the midst of the action and to make it inherently difficult for them to run off to far away places.

Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs
Ubertron_X replied to Episparh's topic in General Discussion
BB AP was always cringy for the amount of damage it dealt to DDs. Due to WG faulty AP "double damage" mechanics there was absolutely no need to use HE because you would not be able to score more damage with HE anyway. However reloading HE for a "surprise" DD is still not a viable mechanic, even with the correct perk (maybe if you have the super-reload of former Steven Seagal who reloads in ~7.5 secs), so you either anticipate that there is a DD near which will be "decloak" shortly (either by himself or by friendly spotting or radar) or you don't. I personally would have liked to see the double hits removed first and gauging the effectiveness of that fix before creating an artifical solution. -
While feelings may not be facts actual experience is. And this is where you both are right and wrong as experience and statistics do not mix well. If I play 10 games and in 10 of them there are 5 DD per side, then my personal experience is 41% DD in my games and that is a fact. If on the other hand statistics tell me that the actual DD quota is 25% only that is a fact too. The major mistake is to generalize, i.e. to either think that your personal experience must hold true for all players or that it is statistically impossible for single players to experience extreme deviations.
-
This exactly. BB's might be an easy class when your goal is just survival and some damage, however it is a very difficult class when it comes to actually winning battles. Commit too early and you will die uselessly losing your team the battle. Commit too late and you will probably also lose your team the battle. Using BB's right requires a lot of map awareness, battle experience and commitment skill. And even if you do nothing wrong you might still fail because your team does not react on or support your commitment.

Roadsigns - How does this help gameplay?
Ubertron_X replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
To be honest there was nothing wrong in ONE (!) high speed BB (30kt+) supporting the CA and DD that might have been fighting there when there was still a D cap, however a lemming will always be a lemming a stupid always a stupid and a coward always a coward. -
Considering how much effort WG is putting into those ports it is a shame they can't be explored properly in the first place. Why don't just add a free float option in port, you know like the one we have on every other ingame map?

Yes, DD`s are the area denial weapon no. 1. I have seen whole flanks turn tail when their own DD was sunk and the enemy DD was still active, even when possessing numerical superiority. And in most cases rightly so I have to add. The combination of being perma-spotted and constantly harrassed by torpedoes makes it very hard to continue an attack, especially if your ships lack any meaningful means of detecting and fighting the enemy DD and no CV is present. Any DD player knows that it is much harder to deal significant damage to a target which is moving away from you than it is on a target that is advancing in your direction, mainly due to the torpedo range and the relative speed difference of torpedo and target. Of course there are other ways of denying areas like low concealment +high alpha or high arc + cover + spotter, however a single well commanded DD is the most common one.

Clan Base 2.0: WG favoring BIG clans again
Ubertron_X replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
And this is where the current system could be improved. In order to treat every player equally the focus should not be on overall clan oil grind but on personal daily oil drain. So instead of having fixed costs for the major upgrades the oil should be used/spend on a daily basis versus the number of players that have actually played (been online) that day. Exempli gratia: Instead of having a major building upgrade that costs 250k oil and provides +5% xyz the clan leader could simply choose to enable +5% xyz for the cost of 10 oil per active player this day (exact costs and how often a change of settings would be allowed is of course open to debate, the above example was kept simple for clarity). Improvement over the current system: 1) No fixed limits to grind against, i.e. no clan is ever "finished" and just waiting for the next update. As long as you earn oil you can chose how to spend it. 2) Clan size does not matter with a (proper) spending system, so 10 active players could have the same IG benefits as 100 active players. Disadvantage over the current system: 1) Might need more micro-management by clan leaders. 2) Probably needs more processing power. -

First of all I am neither good at multitasking / APM, so RTS style gameplay never really was my type of thing. And when I was leveling through the tiers I found that the CV gameplay was so radically different from the normal gameplay that usually only the more invested (and usually better) players stuck to playing CV on a regular basis. So while I do enjoy a good competition once in a while I continuously grew to dislike the much more strenuous one-on-one CV gameplay which sometimes can induce MOBA kind of stress levels. And as constantly fighting uphill battles is no fun at all there were two basic solutions to the issue: Either improve my own skill level from "fighting the odds" to "being the odds" or quit playing CV which I finally did. tl;dr: Different CV gameplay attracts different players who usually invest more and are better players which in return can help driving casual players away due to large skill gap (both in knowledge and in excellence of execution)
