Branch of the tech tree. Which is appropriate to learn?
Ubertron_X replied to lospescas's topic in General Discussion
IJN cruisers and US battleships are both solid choices. IJN cruisers generally feature low visibility, workable armor, good torpedoes and good guns (albeit a rather slow reload and somewhat slow turret turning). US battleships should be most learner friendly as they feature good armor, good AA and good guns. Until tier 8 they are among the slowest ships in the game, however I do not consider this an absolute downside, as it will teach correct BB play (aka reading the map and making decisions well ahead of their time). Also keep in mind that battleships usually allow you to use low skill captains and still function as expected, which for example is not quite possible in DDs (and sometimes cruisers), e.g. in a BB you can easily use a below 10 points captain without concealment expert or other 4 point skill. Edit: In addition the US BB line has some excellent low and high tier premium ships choices if you are interested in spending money on the game (premium versus free account and or premium ships). For example USS Texas at tier 5 is available for under 10 Euro (at least for me). IJN cruisers has the excellent Atago, however I would not recommend skipping to tier 8 right now. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Ubertron_X replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Met @Aragathor in a Grozovoi yesterday while being in a Missouri myself, but was not able to return his greetings properly because I tend to be prone to telling the truth about my fellow captains abilities in rather harsh words and am thus currently not allowed to talk for a while. -
[Poll - Editable Entries] Did you get 300 "Soviet Tokens" drop from "Soviet Containers" via "Directives" and/or "Daily Shipments" during the WoWs v0.9.4 event?
Ubertron_X replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Don't know the total number of containers opened, but I got two times 300 tokens in the "free to play" containers, which means that I managed to unlock the Mikoyan, the Tallinn perma camo and the Tallinn. Lucky me. -
Why do I enjoy Bismarck more than Yamato?
Ubertron_X replied to vaapad_master's topic in General Discussion
You simply enjoy T8 more because the T10 meta and its overpowered ships punishing mistakes hard and thus usually ending up in a long range camp und smokefest in addition to T10 BBs are being bow-in bricks in comparison to their T8 counterparts. In terms of having fun I will gladly take Bismarck over GK or Amagi over Yamato too. -
points gained from your first soviet containers
Ubertron_X replied to anonym_WHY4JO92xZKJ's topic in General Discussion
Miraculously opened a 300 coins container on Wednesday. They do exist after all... (not finished the 2nd set of missions yet, so I am missing like 10 containers, my remaining balance is 115 after getting the Mikoyan from the first set and log-ins) -
I do not fear the Smolensk, however I have noted that if more then one (and even if it is only one) Smolensk per team the gameplay often becomes very static. If the Smolensk player and the ships that do the spotting only have half a brain they usually manage to lock down one flank almost on their own. Given no major misplays it can be very hard to dislodge a Smolensk before it had the opportunity to dish out some serious damage. So Smolensk games tend to degenerate into campfests rather easily.

What I would need would not be a guide where to aim on enemy ships, but how to aim using different type of guns and distances. I admit having severe trouble consistantly citadeling enemy ships while using high arc guns, especially above 12km. Aiming for or above the waterline only gets you so far.

This, the FdG is severely lacking good firing angles (not as bad as GF levels but still) and the Ludendorff seems even worse, so I let it pass.

At which tier should you no longer be a total tool?
Ubertron_X replied to Camperdown's topic in General Discussion
Somewhere in between T6 and T7. Tier 6 will see the next level of CV play and you can easily meet a lot of tier 8 ships featuring e.g. concealment modules, secondary builds and radar ships. Tier 7 will mean that you match up to T9 when even cruisers will have heals. The only permisseable exception for derping around at higher levels is when you finished downloading the game and your first transaction is the purchase of a Derpitz. (just kidding) -
Analysis for number of "Special", "Research Bureau", "Steel", "Coal" and "Free XP" high tier ships on WoWs EU server...
Ubertron_X replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Also please keep in mind that the order of which these ships have been available will be of relevance, especially if you are a) no collector and b) you are not only looking for the most powerful ships. For example I am aquiring ships on a mix of "I need a high level captain trainer" and "I want at least a decent ship". This meant: * No Georgia because I already had the Missouri * No Bourgogne because I already had the Jean Bart * No Yoshino because I already had the Azuma * No Smaland because I already had the Friesland * No efforts for PR because I already had the Alaska I know that many of those ships play totally different, which however is mostly irrelevant for a "training ship" (I don't mind if I make 1k bXP in Georgia or Missouri as long as both ships are somwehat viable). The only instance where I have double ship type and nation is Kronshtadt/Stalingrad.- 40 replies

Pround Neustrashimy owner here! Too be honest I am a little astonished that numbers for that ship are this low as it is by no means a bad ship. Nonetheless I have to admit that the purchase was a "mistake" as I should have gone for the Bourgogne first.- 40 replies

Matchmaking: The Basics Making Teams
Ubertron_X replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Though I would not rate the WoWs matchmaking as bad it still has its glitches. * Distribution of radar ships in between teams (and no, I am not talking about a Minotaur running radar instead of smoke) * Distribution of specialised ship types in the different map modes, usually DDs. There is a huge difference if your side has Khabarovsk and Haragumo or Grozovoi and Shimakaze in a standard battle versus a domination battle. -
No **** Sherlock, you succesfully managed to find the single cheapest T7 ship in the armory. How about the T6 BB average is 22.18 Euro and the T7 ship average is 26.67 Euro, which - in relation to the price for the Hayate permacamo at 26.30 Euro - is exactly the point @CptBarney was trying to make.

I agree that defensive tanking might not create opportunities for you personally. However I still do consider stabilizing or stalling a weak flank in your BB as purposeful tanking as it provides your DDs and CAs on that flank with much needed breathing space and may very well enable victory on another flank. However there is no personal reward or incentive for this kind of teamplay, apart from perhaps win rate (i.e. if your team actually manages to capitalize on your gameplay), .
-
You mean, like, getting chased by more than half of the enemy team for 10+ minutes while you drag them to some obscure part of the map only to realize that on your numerically stronger flank one enemy DD (or clan division) singlehandedly managed to outplay almost your entire team, you are behind in kills as well as caps and the battle is lost without you being able to do much apart from taking an extended beating from superior forces for an elongated period of time? And yes this a of course somewhat exaggerated but no this is entirely not a rare occurance.
-
That is very difficult to answer as it depends on a lot of factors: * Are you in a capital ship or a DD? * Are CVs involved? * Relative positioning in relation to your own team * Relative positioning in relation to the enemy team * Concealment values of the ships involved * Speed values of the ships involved * General purpose of the ships involved (a Z-52 RPF'ing a Shima requires different play and counterplay than a Shima RPF'ing a Z-52) Ideally you use your knowledge of his presence against him, i.e. evaluating his approximate position by double-checking last known position, RPF ping and detect status / intervening terrain / camo values is not impossible (he can do this easier though), as are regular changes to course and speed, requesting your CV to spot him, or luring him into a trap by closely passing another ship (2 DDs working together wonders in this regard). Especially in case of radar capable enmies RPF can be most deadly to yourself (especially if their detection range is lower or similar to their radar range). I even had one case of an enemy RPF Khaba charging into an obviously empty cap (apart from his RPF signal) only to find that my own CE Khaba (yes I love freak builds and not being surprised by Minotaurs) having first strike and superior positioning was more than a match (due to the speed the cap was contested after the battle started and the RPF signal on me I knew it could only be the enemy Khaba). To his defense we also had 2 Shimas in our team, so I think he wanted to run down one of those...
-
Only taking RPF on specific, anti-DD ships (mostly hunter type gunboat DDs but can also be CAs) or in clan wars. I know that many players prefer RPF on torpedo centric DDs (IJN) as a protective measure, however I am specifically not taking RPF on any of my torp boats in order to not telegraph my presence to any otherwise unaware capital ship.

Afaik IJN DD and on the bonus side they are pretty chill to play, currently regrinding Haragumo line myself. Edit: Some google-fu brought up the following link: https://wowsft.com/research?lang=en

I can confirm that their "spiderweb" is getting better tough. While I have managed to not get chat banned once during the first 3 years, I have been chatbanned repeatedly during the last 6 months. And I rage even less in chat these days than I did in the early days of WoWs.

Most played - Tirpitz First Kraken - Probably old Minekaze or Gremyashchy Worst Ship - Des Moines Most Kills - Großer Kurfürst (7) Highest Damage - Hindenburg (318k) Unluckiest - Montana & Moskva (apparently can't win despite normal damage values) Most frustrating - Neptune (to quote an old RPG: Explodes like a blood sausage...) Favourites: DD - Asashio B Cruiser - ARP Takao & Hindenburg BB - Jean Bart & Thunderer CV- none (Shokaku) Preferred Tier : 6 or 8

This. Not especially concerned about the time frame but moderately upset by the tier 8+ requirement.

Next CB. I think it exactly the opposite about no free Capt Re-skill
Ubertron_X replied to RedOnly's topic in General Discussion
Simple solution? No free respec, no CW. -
I have a secondary GK that I mostly use to farm secondary hits in co-op, but also take out for a spin in random once in a while. If the enemy does not overextend and/or you are not managing a one-on-one of numerical advantage situation you just can't use secondaries without being reduced to crisp in no time. Just yesterday I had a standard battle where despite using every single cover available I could not get within 12km without severely endangering my ship, simply because the enemy knew what he was doing and camped center en masse (and it is no fun trying to attack a dug in Smolensk and Worchester while a Yoshino is keeping you spotted and harrassing from afar). And while it surely can be fun when it works, tank build will be far more consistent most of the time.
