What is your current success with "Always Courageous Collection" (ultimate prize is USN Tier V BB "Oklahoma")?
Ubertron_X replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
10/16 with 2 duplicates and at least 19 crates to go. One more hit and I am ready to go, even without dailies. -
37.17 Euros in the shop I can access...
-
Yes but the difference being is that in the middle I can be hit from all sides.
-
And what do you do in a central position? Observing your shells not hitting the broad side of a barn, or shatter or bounce if you really do manage to hit while washing your car in between reloads? HE "spam" seem a little more effective though...

[POLL] Have you played new "Key Battle" Halloween event battle type? Do you like it?
Ubertron_X replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
If somebody would ask me about events.... #bringbackbathtub -
When I just looked it up it registered both versus the 1st set of daily missions and versus the American BBs part 2 missions (as an alternative).
-
At least it looks like this years event will register versus most of your "regular" missions. I usually skip those events no matter how well they are designed if they prohibit progress in more important grinds or missions as I can only spend my precious time once.

Usually an early cap is not worth it if doing so leaves you dead or crippled. Depending on your type of DD vs the enemy type of DDs, the number and type of enemy radar ships and the presence of a CV an early cap can still be worth it, especially as many "middle" caps are often left abandoned. When in doubt my prime objective is to provide spotting for the team and while doing so expose, cripple / drive away or sink the enemy DD, capping only comes second (also this strategy of course also works in standard battle). In my experience the number of battles that are decided by points are a lot less than the number of battles won by kills and/or steamrolls (others experiences may differ).

As a cruiser/battleship player, how much help do you expect/need from a DD?
Ubertron_X replied to quickr's topic in General Discussion
Quoted for truth. This is what I expect: 1. Survival 2. Eventually engage the enemy DD (on your terms) and hopefully come out on top (with or without fire support from your team) What I can't stand is DDs played as pure torp boats that are only good for sinking unescorted straight lining capital ships (which basically any other ship can do) while evading enemy DDs like the plague. -
I am not quite sure about this yet. Due to the very long reload and time required to switch ammo type even if you have applicable skills I found that I either have become very picky when taking my shots while using AP OR just spam HE every 40 seconds.
-
Uhmmm...it's a tech tree ship (soon)? Why shouldn't it be easy to get? Or do you mean the camo?
-
The ship is bad because of the combination of big target (eats lots of HE and or penetration damage), slow speed and wonky guns (reload, sigma, ballistics, pen angles and values). Considering myself a decent BB player I severely struggle to rack up significant damage within acceptable time. Survival does not seem an issue though.

Should battleships be able to citadel cruisers?
Ubertron_X replied to mil71's topic in General Discussion
What would also help immensely would be to adjust the BB/CA ratio within any given game. Five cruisers versus two Battleships is less of a problem than two cruisers versus five battleships. -
Somewhere in the German ministry of defense: "Hans, get ze plans for ze Unterseeboot 2050! We need to be ready zis time when ze war for ze fishing grounds finally starts."
-
Obviously you get more upvotes for carriering ze team than downvotes from your enemies victims.
-
Yeah, deliberately sailing into and blocking friendly torpedoes is indeed the worst. A well deserved -1.

Thank you for answering and apologies for the bait. You are of course 100% correct but exactly this was the (hidden) point of my post, i.e. that it is not easy to evaluate and interpret statistics without meaningful context. Do those ships have better win rate because: a) they are blatantly OP by design, or b) they are usually captained by more invested and thus often better players, or c) a little bit of both (some ships can indeed be OP when operated by the top 5% of the playerbase)? The danger of getting a wrong impression often does not lie with the statistical data itself but how to interpret it correctly as you already mentioned yourself.

Lets see: Steel ship, steel ship, RB ship, RB ship, Russian bias tech tree ship, coal ship, tech tree ship, tech tree ship, tech tree ship, tech tree ship, tech tree ship. I think I might get the pattern eventually...

My penne is bigger then yours: The Paolo Emilio appreciation thread
Ubertron_X replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
I am honestly quite amazed that in a meta with 1001 radar cruisers and/or German hydro ships (Pommern, Ägir, Odin, Siegfried, Bismarck etc.) you can actually torp rush enemies... -
When does camping become a problem?
Ubertron_X replied to CaptainObese's topic in General Discussion
This is of course correct and another major contributing factor to why camping happens in the first place. WoWs in general does a bad job in depicting the real life order of battle for various reasons (obviously balance), mostly because any ship type is expected to pose a danger to and be able to damage and sink every other ship type. For example in the battle of the Denmark strait cruiser Prinz Eugen was targeted first only by mistake (because even a heavy cruiser was not considered a major threat to a battleship) whereas in-game the cruiser would always be targeted first on purpose (because it is a more than credible threat to any battleship). However I fear that there may be no easy way out of this especially as cruisers within any given battle are likely to be outnumbered by the also present enemy battleships (another major deviation from the real life order of battle by the way) and their ever increasing gun calibers. One possible countermeasure to lessen the impact of said overabundance of battleships on cruisers that I have had in my mind for some time now would be to radically change starting positions for each ship class. * Each and every battleship start in a rather forward central map position * All cruisers start on either flanks * Destroyers keep their staring positions, i.e. center or either flank This would hopefully a) eliminate the danger of battleship crossfire during the early stages of the battle and b) enable some cruiser on cruiser action on the flanks and c) enable some battleship on battleship action in the center (provided there is adequate spotting). -
When does camping become a problem?
Ubertron_X replied to CaptainObese's topic in General Discussion
The "problem" with ships that rely on "camping" as part of their game mechanics is that being dependent on cover those ships usually excel in a defensive role (ships that carry mobile cover aka smoke can usually be more active of course), while not providing much teamplay apart from additional firepower (but usually a lot of it). They often do not provide spotting (stealth radar behind islands can be a game changer though), usually need a spotter themselves and are not at all helping in sharing the load of incomming fire which means that friendly ships in the open might be overwhelmed unnecessarily. My biggest gripes with this kind of ships however is the kind of gameplay they enforce on the enemy team. Counter tactics involve coordinated overrun attacks (if your flank already has the strength in numbers) in order to minimize the time that your team will be subject to said firepower, which however are almost impossible to pull off in random mode due to the sheer amount of coordination required. Thus the more typical counterplay in random games is trying to sort things out from afar, i.e. staying your distance so the "camping" ships impact is minimized, killing his supporting ships first (he can have all the cover he wants if all his spotters are dead) and dislodge and kill him once you have secured an overwhelming superiority in a ranged shootout. However in effect this means that you are now camping yourselves because the enemy ship and his cover are too strong to initiate aggressive action against. Camping ship types are one (but not the only) major reason why, e.g. BBs tend to stay at range and not support their team properly, because even the most unattentive players will eventually learn that attacking an otherwise unassailable enemy will have them sunk pretty fast. So as far as I am concerned camping promotes (counter) camping. -
Thats insult to injury however and not considering any playstyle / fun issues the point being to get Ohio (T10) before Siegfried or Emilio.
-
For what it is worth keep in mind that during special events T10 ships might be worth more than lower tier ships (e.g. juicy super containers). One of the first special ships I got was the Neustrashimy and while by no means a bad ship I always regrett getting her instead of e.g. Bourgogne when specials come up.
