    Grand Battle. Like or Loathe?

    This is my typical DD experience. There is an enemy Haragumo hidden in the screenshot, guess where it is and how the battle went for our BBs and SBBs despite me frantically using chat (by the time the screen was made an enemy Shimakaze was also unaccounted for, but it went C).

    Switch off the container animation?

    If I am not entirely mistaken you can auto-collect them if you dont trigger them manually, however you will then get some random containers (minus "try your luck" containers because reasons). So as an alternative to being able to switch off the animation I would also accept an "auto-collect container type x" kind of solution, like a check-box on the containers that you want to auto-collect or just auto-collecting the same type that you chose last manually.

    Advice for BB players

    I have somthing to add which is bugging me very much, especially as I tend to play in divisions and often start in the center of the map and especially valid for standard battles. Never ever simply surrender your flank (respectively your flanking position)! In almost every single standard battle and regardless if the flank is strong or not so many BB players tend to immediately begin to relocate to the center of the map, which is plain wrong on so many levels. Just don't do this! Stay out there, take a close look at force distribution and opposing forces and only then decide if it is time to run (kite) or to push. The weak flank needs to buy time for the strong one else crossfire is likely to happen and you will often lose the battle. If both flanks "meet" in the center in a big blob and the enemy is free to take all the good positions and/or outflank your team, you have already lost.

    Advice for BB players

    If you are not in a secondary spec boate the most important aspect of playing a BB is vision control (which is important for all ships of course). If possible you need to play around your ships own visibility rating in order to be able to fight and tank when needed and disappear when needed and still be within effective gun range. So if your ships concealment is 13km, anything in between 12km and 14km is a good starting distance for offensive or defensive manoeuvres while also keeping in mind force distribution and firing angles (obviously sitting broadside at 12km to a Yamato or Jean Bart is inherently bad, even or especially in a BB). Ideally you can now deal significant damage as well as being able to draw fire, while still being able to disengage and heal up if needed. This way you can take a lot of pressure from your more fragile ships.

    Huh? As per my understanding and daily experience nations are considered in the matchmaking. So if 4 IJN DD are in the game they are likely assigned 2 per team (not necessarily in the same tier though). In case of odd numbers the max difference seems to be 1, i.e. 2 USN vs 1 USN DD is possible if only 3 USN DD are available. All of this is not considering divisions.     If I am not entirely mistaken and there is no disturbance in the force (aka divisions) the matchmaker is also considering nations if possible? In addition to this the matchmaker seems to love to cluster identical ships (take is part as anecdotal evidence only), i.e. 2x Shima vs 2x Haragumo, which can be a problem if one nation features same class ships with wildly different playstyles.
  9. Went through the Z-31 and now mastering the G.J. Maerker. Not as bad as expected, in fact I seem to do reasonably well in them. Slow, bad camo and slow torps versus lots of HP, some armor and good ammunition paired with excellent accuracy. Can do nothing versus a supported "real" DD, can do reasonably well versus an unsupported enemy DD, can do well when catching enemy cruisers broadside and/or while shooting at CA or BB from smoke. General feeling is that if your team is able to handle enemy DDs reasonable well (with or without your help) you can usually contribute a lot, if your team is not able to handle enemy "true" DDs, you usually end up low on the scoreboard as you probably can't go anywhere without getting outspotted and shot at.
  10. This very much. Open waters = vision control => torp attack from around 6-7 km without getting spotted is possible. No cover needed.

    Could also be an issue of the keyboard not accepting additional commands. I have this happening from time to time when multiple buttons are being pressed almost simultaneously.

  13. Given that the majority of cruisers (and I am not even talking about battleships) have hydro, radar or both I can not see how the addition of more islands would be benefitting destroyers. For starters islands provide easy to use hard cover versus torpedoes and as they can also hide nasty surprises the only instant of cover benefitting destroyers is in the event of a gung-ho sucidial close attack versus an otherwise unsuspecting target. And the latter can easily leave the DD severely crippled or sunk even if successful. I know for sure that my concealment focussed DDs are not touching any islands with a 10 foot pole as I do want to spot any potential threats as early as possible (and my non-concealment focussed DDs too probably, as enemy cover is of no good use if all you want to do is to spam HE from range and speed dodge any return fire).

    The problem is that when you can not do your "role" this is not only affecting you. Most of the time I as a single player can adjust reasonably well to the ships I play, however doing so may very well "doom" an entire flank or the whole game if the players on that flank do not adjust accordingly. And even then, evasive tactics like surrendering a flank / cap comes with its own set of problems. Thats a general and DD heavy problem, be it either Marceau or Khaba spamming HE from range, or a Friesland or Kitakaze shooting from smoke. Who is doing your job (aka providing spotting and warding off enemy DD torpedo attacks) when your DD isnt doing it?

    Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance

    @YabbaCoe Matchmaking really needs to be closely looked at after the introduction of hybrid carriers. I already had a lot of games that featured no CV but an imbalance in hybrid carriers (Ise) and it clearly showed in the results. A setup of 5 BB / 3 CA / 4 DD is not going to be a fair one if one side has 2x Ise and the other side has nil hybrid ships. It is the spotting power of the planes, not just their striking potential, that can and will often decide games and as such distribution of said ships needs to be as even as possible.

    A mode about super BB and their even bigger guns - while overabundance of BB already is the ultimate bane of all CA - made all the CA players disappear? Who would have thought... Same for the class that counters BB the most, DD.
  20. Hello fellow captains! Inspired by a recent topic about RNG I remembered a phenomenon that I was wondering about for a very long time, however until now failed to ask about (and also failed to find similar topics using the search routine). Every once in a while I notice that sometimes shell arcs do seem to change their course mid flight and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and/or knows why it is happening? Simple syncing issues in between client and server or a possible result of the coding, i.e. an additional "hit confirmation roll" being made at a later date than actually aiming and shooting your guns? Note that this is not about any conspiracy theories or loaded RNG, I just want to understand what is happening on screen and in-game. As an example of what I am talking about find enclosed a screenshot of a cooperative game I played just yesterday (don't worry, the BB salvo barely did any damage to my Eugen and I finished the battle pretty much alive).

T10 poll does not make much sense as a) I do consider every T10 ship a "must have" in case of any events, e.g. snowflakes b) many T10 ships are not "must haves" in regard to random battles however many were or still are important "must haves" in regard to other game modes like clan battles, e.g. radar Yueyang (before Smaland became a thing) c) other ships are "must haves" in regards to their historical status, e.g. Yamato who was actually build and operated

    What use have tier V premiums ?

    1. I got most of my T5 premiums for free through various events, e.g. the 4 ARP Kongo sisters or Kamikaze R. 2. I bought some T5 premiums for money or doubloons, especially when my account was still young, e.g. Murmansk. 3. Making use of the Gremyashchy bundle I bought myself into the WoWs Beta in the first place. 4. I still play T5 once in a while, e.g. for certain missions or when a RL friend or clan mate is actively leveling (or regrinding) a new line and we division up. That having said I have noticed early on that the XP/credits/fun meta in WoWs is much different from the respective meta in WGs sister product WoT. Whereas in WoT tier 5 and 6 premiums more often than not were my go-to vehicles in order to grind XP/credits and/or to have fun, in WoWs the average tier for doing so seems to be more like in the region of T7, T8 or even T9.
