Friesland: before you spend your FXP
__Helmut_Kohl__ replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
It is a T9 and Udaloi/Tashkent only have slighty more DPM but much worse alpha. Sure they have the heal, but Mogador has the reload booster. What makes Mogador so great though, is the AP performance against bigger ships. -

It is funny to annihilate cocky Frieslands in Mogador, as they usually overestimate their effective DPM output. -

If no1 is spotting/radaring for you and the enemy DDs are not firing first, it will be tough. But in the chaos of Random battles, it is usually not that hard to find enemy DD targets, even in Mogador etc. Bad concealment without torps or speed can force you into a reactive role though, if you are not in a division. -
Research Bureau - Best lines to reset in the Research Bureau
__Helmut_Kohl__ replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
Just go here and check the XP needed for any ship (incl. mandatory modules): https://wowsft.com/research?lang=en And I will say it again: It's only 22k XP until the T5. I always FXP the low tier stuff, so once or twice to T5 doesn't make much of a difference. But the overall XP of the line varies from 675k for Harugumo to 898k for Yamato. That's a 223k difference. In the end though, I think the best idea is to just play the lines again that you enjoy. It is a game and not a job. -

Well, to make it work you gotta have some experience, so it is not easy to use for a lot of people. Which is precisely why I felt the need to put a slight warning out there with this thread. -

Of course it can do all these things. I personally just don't see any reason apart from the AA, not to play Kitakaze instead. Sure the hydro and the 360 turrets are nice, but what Kita has (concealment, torps, 1/4 HE pen) is nicer. -
Last nerf was the dispersion+reload. Just now they buffed the reload again.

You need for Colbert: 1 season: 4 re-grinds 2+ seasons: 3 re-grinds You cannot do it in less than 3 re-grinds, as you only got 10/57k for free. You need 47k and 2 re-grinds are only 40k with x2 bonus.
-
You have to differentiate between the one-time 10k bonus on introducing the Research Bureau and the additional 10k from the x2 bonus for the first reset of the season. Only the x2 bonus for the first reset is so far announced to be provided every season. It would also be strange if they would give us 10k for free every season, meaning you wouldn't have to re-grind at all.

I would prefer some arguments on the matter from your side, which I have already provided from mine. You don't even have the ship (or a Kitakaze), but maybe you can entertain us here. Explain why the ship is too strong please. -
I am not sure what new it will bring me as I already have the Smolensk. Colbert should be a bit more flexible with that speed, but at the same time also kind of dependant to island-cover.
-
I see you got the alternative camo on it. My grind is also almost finished (less than 10 battles to go) without spending any money on FXP. Tell me how you like the ship, as I am still not sure if I want it.

@El2aZeR and me tested the AA together. While it is not going to create a no-fly zone, the AA is still quite formidable for a DD. Eventhough he avoided all the Flak, Friesland still killed 50 planes before going down. Of course the situation in battle is different and CVs can engage on more advantageous terms, but that doesn't change the fact that Friesland brings better AA than a lot of cruisers. Be aware though, that it does not stop an attack from happening when isolated, especially not when facing a TX CV. -

Send them here then. You are obviously just still butthurt after we had beef and then I slapped you and your Ranked team around in my Haku and even made fun of you, since you had crap-talked too much at the start. -

The way he talks about it, he is probably not aware that Kitakaze is actually firing more shells per minute. -

She can't even penetrate 27mm with IFHE and has no torpedoes. How do you want to deal with a T9/10 radar cruiser ? Kitakaze and Mogador counter radar cruisers, NOT Friesland. Friesland counters CVs and sets fires on BBs, when it is not giving fire support against enemy DDs. -

You managed to hide your sarcasm pretty well then. Yes it is possible to evade most of the rocket damage, no matter what some CV players claim. And if you act smart, the planes can also not just outturn you and attack you from the side before you have a chance to angle in. Especially if your DD has a small turning radius and a fast rudder. -

But there is no better pick on that slot, as you really don't need the slight dispersion buff and you don't have slowly turning guns or torpedo tubes. Also most CVs you will meet do in fact take a significant amount of Flak damage if you just throw enough of it into the air. -

Since it is a high-ROF ship anyway, it is also advisable to use the "AA Mod. 1" for more Flak bursts on 3rd slot. On a general note, I would personally not bother with IFHE and rather max out the formidable fire-setting capability, as IFHE will still not let you pen 27mm on the 120mm guns. Sure you will still meet some 25mm armor in a T9 ship, but not enough to justify sacrificing 4 valuable skill-points and some firechance in my opinion. -

On BBs and cruisers I would generally press the sector button as soon as they are inside AA-range and heading into my direction, yes. On DDs it depends on the situation. You will usually have your AA turned off and hope that the CV doesn't spot you to begin with. If you are in a heavy-AA DD, you can try to ambush planes when they are close to your air-detection range, but be sure it is worth getting spotted for. If you are spotted or the enemy CV already knows your position and is obviously going for you, you might as well turn your sector (+DefAA) on immediately (or as soon as he is inside AA-range) to utilize the Flak and more of your DPS. If you are yet unspotted, I would generally wait with AA off until spotted, even when the CV is obviously going to find you, as it makes it harder for him to plan the attack run and might force him to stay inside the AA much longer. DefAA boosts the continuous DPS as well as the Flak DPS. If you wait until the planes are too close, you miss out on the Flak buff If you use it right away, you allow the planes to get out of your AA easily. So it depends again on the situation: If you want to ambush planes, you better wait until they are well inside your AA. If you just want to protect yourself, you better use it as soon as they get into AA-range. Sure it can allow him to wait out your DefAA, but that would still not change my decision, unless I am in a super-heavy-AA ship, which would be the above mentioned "ambush" scenario. -

If you have for example Ouboros signals and Spring Sky camos available, you can indeed get 1 million FXP quite fast and easy, even if you don't have much time to play. For people who don't spend a lot of money and don't play a lot of competitive, XP/FXP boni are much more rare though, and it can be tough. So yeah, it is expensive, but not for everyone. -
Smolensk Have to force me to Delete the Game
__Helmut_Kohl__ replied to 19MhD95's topic in General Discussion
The vast majority of players simply doesn't have a feeling for the right amount of aggression, so their "counter" will probably just be hiding in their BBs even more, I'm afraid. Adding more smoke+HE ships is not healthy for the overall gameplay in my personal opinion. -

Your mouth is bigger than your actual stats as usual. Also what's the argument here? It works against a unicum Enterprise, but not against the CVs you meet in Randoms, because "El2aZeR can do it" ? -

__Helmut_Kohl__ replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
You will never in your live get 10k on my DD in an Enterprise. That only applies to people who don't angle their ship in and dodge. And if @El2aZeR still claims that the AA is useless, I invite him to test it with me as well.
