    That is just an awareness ("L2P") problem. If you can't just get out, you are too close to enemy fire support in the first place.

    You counter Black the same way, you counter Z-52. Just run away when he radars, and come back when it is out (28 sec later). His shells are rather lazy, so it is not a problem that he can radar you from 7.5km already.

    I think this mod is too inaccurate and only provides an advantage, if you want to reset a capping DD in his smoke. But even a little advantage is an advantage, I guess...

    I tried to play Khaba with a hybrid build for that reason. It still doesn't work well around the cap. I rather invest into a good strength and have a bad game from time to time, than to weaken the ship overall.
  8. Every ship is only a "local counter". People who don't play CV underestimate what it actually means, when a Des Moines or Minotaur is sitting in the middle of the map. The effect it has on you is enormous. Simply comparing AA range to gun range doesn't make sense, since planes have to get much closer to their target. The AA ship doesn't even have to be close enough, it just has to be in your way.
  9. CVs are also countered by AA cruisers like Cleveland, Des Moines, Minotaur etc. Also don't forget part of the USN+RU DDs with their crazy DefAA. CV countered by CV+AA-CA/DD DD countered by DD+CA (+BB because bugged AP) CA countered by CA+BB BB countered by DD+CV+BB Seems legit. BBs are absurdly powerful, it is ok that they have 3 counters.

    Hey! I use it with smoke, because the short cooldown allows me to always shoot at spotted DDs and then immediately disengage from their fire support, by smoking behind me. I watched Flambass using it with Radar, to spot enemy DDs from stealth, so his team can shoot them. While that is definitely nice, he is also taking much more damage from fire-support, when he disengages from a DD-trade, because he is not able to immediately get undetected. I am not sure if it will suit my playstyle. We don't really need it because we run Moskva and Des Moines. And I also like to always have a defensive smoke for my teammates. Compared to the Gearing the only real disadvantage is that your torpedoes are no threat to enemy DDs. But you have the smaller ship, which is nice when you hide in the cap. Also the DW torpedoes are really good against the cruisers and the BB, because their low detection makes it hard to screen them in advance. We are currently running Gearing+Yueyang and it works perfectly for our playstyle. In a 1-DD setup I would worry that enemy DDs might just rush a solo Yueyang because he has no torps against them. But with 2 DDs, I really like playing Yueyang. Gearing is still just as good though.

    Tried it, simply don't find it as useful overall, mainly because of the pathetic torpedo range and its big size. When the enemy has one, the hydro will never do more than making me uncomfortable. That is because we run radar cruisers of course. With a Hinden-heavy setup it should be different. No. If they have hydro, it will not help much anyway. And without hydro the small benefit in reaction time is not worth the range sacrifice AND 2p for me, personally. I value torpedo range in CW very much, especially for the starting salvos on maps like Hotspot, and to engage Radar cruisers. I usually play my Yueyang (because of DW, small size, and short smoke CD to always disengage) and the 13.5 torpedo range can already be uncomfortable. Yes. If you eat a torpedo in your DD, it is usually very close, because of your godlike agility. These extra 2 seconds reaction time are big in a DD.

    On Z-52 I would take BFT instead, to make up for the awful HE DPM. Torpedo Reload for surprising salvos against enemy DDs could be nice too, but the limited range makes it less useful in that Radar heavy environment. That is also why I don't like to play my Z-52 in CW. As I said, my Gearing/Yueyang(smoke) CW build is PM-LS-AR-SE-VI-CE-RPF and it works quite well. On Radar Yueyang I would pick SI. You don't play Gearing because of the smoke. After the smoke nerf it is not that important anymore and a 4th charge is not more important than torpedo spotting. Yes the smoke is useful. But Gearing also has the best mix of DPM/Torpedo Range/Concealment, which is very important in CW. Z-52 is simply lacking DPM and Torpedo Range for example. While the Hydro is great, it is not needed with enough Radar around.

    For Randoms no, SE and Torpedo Reload or even BFT are definitely more useful and more fun. But in CW your first objective as a DD is to stay alive. So PM-LS-AR-SE-VI-CE-RPF for me.

    If DW torps don't come from the side, Vigilance can give you that extra second you need, to dodge or reduce the damage. But it the reaction time should still be too short in most situations.

    It is great for CW. But it cannot save you if your engine is broken or if you are caught in a wrong turn.

    In Randoms I use it on every BB, and only on these. In CW I use it on DDs too.

    Midway has 200dpm on its 127mm, Haku has 250dpm on its 100mm. Doubling that is nice, but will it stop another TX CV? Increasing your panick radius from 3.5 to 4.2 km is significant in any case.

    I think DefAA on CVs will only boost the mid range guns (not sure though). So it might be more useful to skill AFT and increase the panick radius.
  22. Well, we met you guys when we were still in Gale and you were Typhoon already. While I am personally fine with it (and it luckily went well for us), I don't see why it is a good idea to mix Gale and Typhoon. Why not +1/-1 ? Would be much more balanced.

    According to that 3dgamemodels site, one Saipan 1000lb HE bomb has a firechance of 1.62, compared to 0.05 on a USN DD shell. So DE will buff your firechance from 162% to 164%. Why would you take that???

    Actually WG made this ship especially for (people like) you. It is not meant to be versatile and competitive, but to simply inflict high damage on BBs.
