Proposal for WG: Creation of special ship "WWI Hulls" and "Random Battle WWI" and "Co-op Battle WWI" game types!
Palmyrene replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Recently read Castles of Steel myself - an excellent read (as is Dreadnougfht if you want a wider take on the origins of WWI). Got me into WWI naval history and have recently been reading all I can on Jutland (the recent work by Nick Jellicoe is quite interesting too) etc., and on the ships of the era. This historic interest is by and large what brought me to this game. I'd absolutely love a WWI historic mode, especially with "realistic" gunnery ranges! Where do I sign up? -
Thanks for that - hadn't though of it like that. I might go back to 3/4 - i really liked the Dzerki and Izayslav

Lots of helpful stuff to think about - thanks Gnirf!

Thanks for this - I hadn't realised you could change the crosshairs. Very helpful .

I typically play PVE as a way of relaxing after work. However, I am interested in improving my game so have started reading the forum and came across the stats sites as a result. I have very few PVP battles so far (only 67), so I doubt the stats are all that useful so far for me (plus I'm rubbish anyway). I see that WoWS Stats and Numbers and Warships Today sites calculate their Personal Rating or WTR typically based on damage done, kills and win rate. They don't seem to take into account contributions from spotting, damage done on your spotting, potential damage received etc., so maybe they don't give a full picture of how useful you are to your team. I guess win rate maybe takes that into account - if you are more useful to your team in other ways (as well as pure damage/Kills), maybe your team is more likely to win. I tend to play all of the ships in my port at least once a night on PVE, but tend to stick to destroyers in PVP when I do decide to brave Random battles (finding a bit of a leap from T4 to T5). I wonder whether focussing on one or two ships (or lines) is better though. I have found that the stats are interesting, and I look forward to seeing how they change over time, but I won't get too fixated on it until I have a few hundred PVP battles under my belt.

"I'm not a die-hard naval history fan BTW. I picked up this game some months ago because I thought the idea sounded interesting and figured I'd give it a go. What got me hooked was the feeling I got while playing of sailing an actual warship and fighting actual ships. Every time WG introduces more magic into the game that feeling is slipping away and making me less keen to play. I'm sure there are others that feel this way and they are the ones that would really be a great asset for WG to have on their side." I agree with this. I do understand why WG do the things they do (£££££), but I feel like I like it less and less. I dream of something like a fully modelled Battle of Jutland, with much bigger sea spaces/maps or the introduction of some quasi-historic modes, but I can see that these wouldn't form the basis of a realistic (profitable)business model. Until that dream is realised, there are not many better options than WoWS for pushing beautifully modelled large chunks of floating armour and big guns around on a beautifully modelled sea every evening on my laptop, so I guess I can live with it .

Glad its not just me that does this then

Played her a bit in cooperative and I'd say Strefs review is pretty accurate. Nice to have the option to switch HE/AP and to me that sort of makes up for no repair party and no torps. Still not quite worked out how to best use the smoke, so useful to read the review on that. My impressions (for what they're worth)... Can't stand in a fight against BBs (or even higher tier torp armed cruisers) but ok at its level as a destroyer/torpy cruiser hunter - the acoustic search is a real life saver here. Turrets a bit slow, concealment good, manoeuvrability not great, weak armour, but nic Enjoying it so far in PVE - now to see how it gets on and what match-making horrors await in Random . I'm pretty much a newbie as far as PVP goes, so I hope the sea-gods smile on HMAS Perth EDIT - I'm an idiot - it does have torps ;).

Welcome. I've not played that much myself and very little on PVP as yet. I love this game - the ship models are so beautiful, so even when I sink (which is too often), I just love to watch how the remaining team mates play to admire the ships. And also to try and learn something too . My main problem is the sheer number of ship - I think I spread myself around them too much rather than just getting to grips with justone ot two lines. But they just look so good, I want them all Fair seas!
