Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Nechrom replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
There are 0 actual differences between the Cleveland and the Fargo as far as this game is concerned. The same is true for the Baltimore and Oregon City. What's the point of adding actual ship models which existed if you're going to make them artificially better than they were? They would be authentic in looks only. -
Apparently they are going to be using lower tier planes. Think I heard they might be as low as tier 8.

Except the Seattle is looking like a CL version of the Buffalo, which also happens to be a design study. As you can see the Seattle doesn't share the single stack of the Fargo and doesn't share the rear catapults and hangar of either the Fargo or the Cleveland. -

Unified thread for Accuracy / Dispersion in WoWs...
Nechrom replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Please don't bump topics of misinformation, thanks. As for your question, the easiest way of looking at it is a shrinking circle. If 10% of the hits within that circle falls on a target ship then you should be able to figure out how much your hit rate will increase as the circle/dispersion shrinks. Also keep in mind that you don't add up bonuses, they are multiplicative. So it's: [base value] x [bonus #1] x [bonus #2] etc. So your resulting dispersion in this case isn't 20% of the original value (after upgrade and manual secondaries skill), but 32% of the original value. So putting all that together, if you know that your hit rate is 10% now (with just the upgrade), then that would mean it's 25% after adding manual secondaries. Now this is all theoretical and doesn't account for the distribution of shots within the dispersion circle. If the distribution is even and not biased towards the center of the circle, then the above calculation should reflect the practical accuracy in game. I believe secondary dispersion all use a sigma value of 1, which would mean it's an even distribution with no bias. There is of course also the fact that the area of a circle doesn't change in a linear fashion with the radius. So in extreme situations you'll not be able to calculate it quite as easily. It's been too long since I studied geometry for me to dive into figuring out the math behind that. -
I'm curious, what's the female proportion in WoWs?

Probably somewhere around 36-29-38.- 55 replies

How do I get my standalone launcher back?
Nechrom replied to __Themistocles__'s topic in General Discussion
But it replaces the game-specific launcher. At worst you just get a replacement for the old launcher, but if you play any of their other games you're getting rid of 1-2 launchers. I get why publishers don't want to just surrender to Steam. It's a massive advantage to have control over how your launcher works. Showing news articles, offers, information etc and allowing for advanced features like SD and HD content, partial download playability etc. It might be more awkward for the consumer, but I also don't think it's healthy for the market to hand over all that power to a single company, especially with how Steam is managed. I think it's worth having to fiddle with different distribution platforms as long as they all work okay.- 40 replies

I also love the fast battleships. And I would be fine with the Hood's weaker guns if they just retained the sigma of Warspite/QE. They need something redeeming. Weak guns are fine on the Scharnhorst because they are pretty accurate and has a high rate of fire. Inaccurate guns are fine on the Dunkerque because of their great velocity, awesome penetration and front placement.
-
It's the combination of using the same guns that are barely okay for tier 6 and then them also having worse accuracy at one tier higher. The other aspects of the Hood (speed and to a lesser extent armor) isn't good enough to compensate for having so bad guns.

How do I get my standalone launcher back?
Nechrom replied to __Themistocles__'s topic in General Discussion
I've been using it for a short while since WoWp 2.0 and I have to say that it has been working much better than some more high-profile launchers like the Battle.Net launcher for example (that's some absolute trash). But I feel like they shouldn't be forcing the Game Center on people while it's still in beta.- 40 replies

How is your Yamamoto Isoroku campaign going on?
Nechrom replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I don't play enough tier 8-10 regularly to keep the campaign moving along, so I'm still only on the 4th part. Playing with tier 10s (in other words sailing any tier 8-10 ship) is really draining, since they are so incredibly passive most of the time. I need to keep my spirits up by playing tier 4-7 or I'll end up not wanting to play at all. -

Nechrom replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, that's what I suspected but I wasn't sure. Now I'm instead filled with questions about the ships... What is a Dallas CL? Why 15 x 6" at tier 7? ...and 12 x 6" at tier 8? What is a Seattle CL? If the Buffalo is the same as the one they've had in the game files for ages, then it's 12 x 8" guns at tier 9... -

I might just be tired and brain not working at full capacity, but what current ship would be the highest you needed to make any extra "gain" from this split? Cleveland? Just wondering if there is any reason to rush up the line before the split. -

I don't think he meant that someone is reading server logs all day and collecting the data. You need to decide what information you want to analyze, create a report and come to a conclusion based on the results. They probably request reports from the "data-guy" on a ton of different aspects of the game for even more various reasons. Anything from "What damage is being dealt to different ships the most?" to "During the last month, what can you tell us about the players who stopped buying premium account subscriptions?".

Unification of events on NA, EU and ASIA - It's happening!
Nechrom replied to Vanhal's topic in General Discussion
You've activated my trap card! I never said that the dogs were the same. Maybe one is a rottweiler and the other is a chihuahua. My point is that the EU and NA playerbase might seem alike to us, but I'm pretty sure we are different enough under the hood to WG. Enough to be worth the negative press and community backlash? I'd say no.- 62 replies

Unification of events on NA, EU and ASIA - It's happening!
Nechrom replied to Vanhal's topic in General Discussion
Which is what basically every company does, except WG is really clumsy about it. By separating everything about the regions they've made it super easy to spot inconsistencies and "unfairness". Except it's not discrimination if there is a reason which warrants the special treatment. That's the crux of the situation. WG obviously has a reason for what they do. Whether it's actually a valid reason we'll probably never know. Personally I would argue that the reason for regional segregation can't be so good that it outweighs the negatives of pissing of a large part of the playerbase which will be spending a lot of their time making their opinion clear on social media. Maybe WG is finally coming to this conclusion as well.- 62 replies

Nechrom replied to Vanhal's topic in General Discussion
Giving one of your dogs an extra scoop of food doesn't mean you are mistreating the other one. You might wonder why the different treatment, but in no way can you claim mistreatment. Don't get me wrong, I've been pushing for equal treatment all this time. But I don't think you know what mistreatment means, if you think that's what this has been.- 62 replies
