    Loyangs were a huge mistake

Why would a Benson even push past a Lo Yang's hydro range in the first place? They spot each other before that point. Does this mean that you have to temporarily give the cap to the Lo Yang? Absolutely, but that's not a big issue. Wait for his smoke to clear and your teammates to get closer to provide support and go again.

    Loyangs were a huge mistake

I'm saying that the fact that you know where he is enables you to avoid his hydro. I'm not saying you can easily kill a hydro-DD by yourself. The fact that he has hydro gives him an edge, obviously. What would be the point of if otherwise. But it's an advantage he can't leverage unless you make a mistake. The best he can hope for is keeping you at range. Torping the smoke still serves the purpose of forcing him to move, which could result in him moving out of the smoke or out of the cap. If you're really lucky he could even be in a position where he can't a void getting hit. It's always worth baiting a smoke and torping it even if he has hydro. Nope.

    Loyangs were a huge mistake

Depends on the map, but lets assume that they don't have to stick in the middle. They still have to sit in smoke, so you know where they are. If they don't then you can spot them before you enter hydro range. The ball is always in your court when against a hydro DD. Don't want to be spotted? Don't get in hydro range. If you don't know where he is, don't stop in smoke if you think he could be close. He can't spot you and be undetected at the same time unless you either rush him or you stop in/behind smoke. Also as others have mentioned, you are not alone in the battle. 1 v 1 a DD with hydro has more tools than one without, or else there would be no point to the ability. But it's usefulness is restricted to just a few situations outside of spotting torpedoes earlier. Teamplay wins battles.

    Service awards and rewards

That's very subjective. All of it, aside from the anniversary rewards, are gained by giving WG what they want. It's a trade and WG wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't in their favor. And considering what they are willing to give for nothing in return to inactive players, I think their pockets are way deeper than you give them credit for. They don't have to start with something like the ton of stuff the inactive players are getting, just some token of appreciation for the older players who have stuck around. Then we can see where we go from there. If people appreciate it and WG gets the feedback they want they can expand on it.

    Loyangs were a huge mistake

Please explain the situation, because I don't understand how a Lo Yang can "lock down" a cap without sitting in smoke in the middle of the cap.

    Loyangs were a huge mistake

The basic counter to radar and hydro is to not get in range of it, and if you do at least make sure that the source is also being spotted by you. Radar has long range, but the ship using it is easier to spot and avoid. Hydro is shorter range but can be carried by stealthier ships. But I'm pretty sure there are no ships with a longer hydro range than detection range. So as long as you don't put smoke between you and them you should be able to fight them on equal terms. Both are only really effective when they are not expected. A DD sneaking up on another DD in smoke and using hydro or a cruiser staying undetected behind land for unsuspecting ships to wander into range. Don't get me wrong, I think that radar is a really bad mechanic. Not because it's hard to avoid and not get caught out by it, but because it makes battles more stand-offish and static. If we want dynamic battles then having large "no sail zones" for DDs and stealthy cruisers is not a good thing. Hydro is completely fine though. It's so short range that the user has to be within spotting range and most of the time be very aggressive to use it against other ships.

Yes? That's kind of the point when someone makes a topic about wanting more stuff. Is wanting more a bad thing now?

    Loyangs were a huge mistake

The source of what you think is wrong makes a huge difference. One is a single DD, the other is a mechanic available to a ton of different ships.

    Year of the cruiser when?

Deja vu! I've just been in this place before. Higher on the street and I know it's my time to go.

    [Guidance] Khabarovsk or Grozovoi?

I didn't mean fire support. Any ship can give that.

    [Guidance] Khabarovsk or Grozovoi?

If you want a DD then Khaba is definitely not the destination you want to be heading for. It's the least DD of all the DDs. No support capabilities at all, a pure lone wolf. A strong ship no doubt, but definitely not something for support. I like the Grozovoi a lot. The guns are really comfortable to use and still powerful. Won't be able to push out quite the DPM of a Gearing, but the guns are on the other hand more reliable with great ballistics. The ability for DefAA is also nice both for yourself and nearby ships. The torpedoes are wimpy (14.6k dmg ) but it's not a ship you play for the torpedoes and they are more than enough to punish smoke campers and get a nice opportunistic spread on a bigger ship. It's a bit clumsy in the turn, but that shouldn't be unfamiliar to a RU DD player. It's fast and has plenty of health for surviving a scrap.

    Service awards and rewards

Yes, playing a game gives you in-game stuff. I assume that everyone is on-board with that assertion. I'm not talking about the basic function of "play -> get stuff". I'm talking about WG rewarding something by looking back instead of constantly looking forward. It's this continuing idea of "we'll give you something if you give us something" and never "you've given us so much, here have this". I'm saying there is room for both, especially since we've been seeing more and more of "hey random guy who doesn't play, here is a bunch of stuff, please consider coming back some time, bye". Yes, that's why I mentioned it in my first post because it's so incredibly rare.

    Service awards and rewards

And still none of it requires you to be playing outside of those specific time frames. Getting stuff for playing is an incentive to play right now, not a reward for previous service. Whatever you've accumulated by just playing isn't comparable to the completely free (as in requiring no additional effort) stuff non-players get now for doing nothing. I'm not saying the campaigns and missions are bad, they are just a completely different thing from rewarding veterans. Both should be present. Everything WG adds is catering towards future accomplishments. None of it towards previous ones. Even the badges we got now which would have been the easiest and cheapest way to acknowledge old players doesn't take anything into account which is prior to their implementation, not a single thing. The best you can hope for is sitting on an OP ship once they remove it from sale. That's a pretty shitty thing to hope for and obviously not something WG does intentionally to reward loyal players.

    Service awards and rewards

That's for everyone playing right at that moment. Nothing special for veterans or long time players. Rewards for playing the game is all well and good, but we're severely lacking things specifically incentivizing sticking with the game or supporting it for a long time. Conversely there are plenty of stuff given out for recruitment of new players and for people who haven't been playing the game.

    Year of the cruiser when?

I can recommend Edinburgh, Mogami and Atago as good tier 8 cruisers that still work well. Mogami will be needing IFHE though, 155mm guns are a given.

    Service awards and rewards

We did get stuff for every 1k battles during the latest anniversary. But rewards for milestones would be nice and not difficult to implement. Things like the "Collector's Club" and such would be really nice. Something which isn't just aimed at the largest possible contingent of players.

Recommended Tier 6 and 8 Premiums?

For tier 8 I'd say Atago or Alabama. Atago is one of the most reliable CA in the game due to its repair, tough deck armor and universally effective HE shells. Alabama is a very versatile BB that can be used both at longer ranges and closer to cap points. While it might not be as effective in long range sniping as the North Carolina or the IJN BBs, it's leagues better than both in close quarters. Powerful guns, great agility for a BB, good gun traverse and amazing torpedo protection. If you like DDs and more importantly DD v DD play, then the Kidd is a very strong and fun ship. For tier 6 it really depends on what you want from your ship. There are no universal premium ships at that tier. Mutsu is a good BB and so is Arizona. But both have substantial weaknesses. Mutsu excels against cruisers due to her ability to overmatch bow and stern armor, but if she hits heavy armor of BBs for example she suffers from having poor penetration. Arizona is pretty accurate for having 12 guns and she is also pretty tanky, but her speed is really bad. Molotov and Duca d'Aosta are good cruisers. Molotov has very powerful guns but suffers from being very clumsy and bad at turning. Duca is a quick and nimble cruiser but the guns have questionable use at longer ranges as they lose velocity and her HE shells are garbage. I hesitate to recommend any DD for operations.
  18. At least it's not about too many ARP captains then. As someone who has every IJN and ARP ship, most with a captain on board, I sympathize with having a long list on the "from other ship"-tab. But at that point it's more a WG UI issue than an issue about too many captains.
  19. But if you use a captain from another ship then you wouldn't even see the captains in reserve. I don't see how the ARP captains are an issue in this situation.

Roma does not live up to the hype

It's really the combination. Heavy shells like the RN. High Krupp like the KM. And faster velocity than both.

Roma does not live up to the hype

Tonight I rushed a Missouri and got two citadel hits in on him before killing him and taking basically no damage back. He was very rustled. The penetration on those guns... It's not something people expect.
  22. Nechrom

    Servicing Cost. Umm??

Not taking damage isn't rewarded because it's not something that is useful for your team or winning in general. If you end the battle with 100% HP left or 1% HP left has no direct positive or negative impact on the battle. Indirectly, taking damage in a battle can help your team because the enemy only has a limited damage output. If they target you that mean they are not targeting someone else. A team with 12 ships on 50% HP is much stronger than a team with 6 ships at 100% HP.
  23. Then enlighten me. In what way do you use the reserves/barracks regularly?
