    French battleships talk

I have tried the Bretagne and Normandie so far. Bretagne Feels like the old Warspite. The gun traverse is painful. Slow and agile. Guns have awful ballistics (with AP) and bad penetration. AA is pretty decent for the tier. Normandie The agility is unreal. Where have they fitted the anti-gravity engines? Shotgun guns with the same awful ballistics as the Bretagne. The much better turret traverse speed makes it feel less awkward. No AA. Tier 5 planes can fly over your ship back and forth and they won't get damaged. I found the Bretagne to be a nasty experience between the slow turrets, bad ballistics and the low top speed. Very few redeeming factors. On the other hand Normandie was quite a pleasant experience. Quick and nimble. The bad guns made less painful through a higher number of them and much better rotation speed.
  2. I have 5 captains with 19 points. KM BB (Großer Kurfürst, Tirpitz, Scharnhorst and König Albert) USN BB (Iowa, Missouri, Alabama, Arizona, Texas and Arkansas Beta) IJN CA/CL (Zao, Atago and Yubari) IJN DD (Shimakaze, Shinonome and Kamikaze/Kamikaze R/Fujin) IJN BB AA-spec (Yamato, Kii, Mutsu and Ishizuchi) Up and coming: Akizuki (18p) and RN BB Dunkirk (17p) Most every other captain in serious training is at 14p.
  3. Haven't bought any containers so far, but I have earned 10 free ones so far. In those I have gotten both the Bretagne and Normandie-missions.

    Aigle in the shop

It's one of those awkward DDs which fills that in-between niche of CL/DD. Getting focused is a no-no since her maneuverability is only slightly better than the Akizuki. No way you're going to dodge shots from more than a couple of sources. Speaking of Akizuki, unlike her Aigle has probably the worst gun rotation speed of any DD. So when you have to maneuver to dodge shots or torps, you are disarmed completely. With the bad things out of the way, her guns are great. Behaves almost exactly like the early IJN 140mm guns. Decent RoF, good damage and great fire chance. Amazing for pelting large targets at long range from behind cover or from inside smoke. As with the other DDs of this type you will have to play a bit cautiously early on in the battle. Going into caps alone is a recipe for disaster as you're probably going to be spotted long before you get to see who is spotting you. The only way you are going to get the amazing theoretical DPM out of your guns is by sitting still or sailing in a straight line. Obviously not something you want to be doing if you are being targeted. With other sources of spotting or other friendlies to take the heat, you can start doing some real damage. It's a kind of DD we didn't have around tier 6, so it's a welcome addition to the premium roster in my opinion.

    Suggestions thread

An option to change the look of any camo to one of a permanent camo you own. Now that we have the framework for multiple visuals for one camo, why not give the option for people who have permanent camos to keep the visuals of those camos while mounting the bonuses of temporary ones? The idea is that permanent camos are often more historical and crafted to fit a certain ship, so it's a look that a lot of players prefer over some of the temporary camos. But many of the temporary camos provide better bonuses or at least more specific ones you might want to take advantage of. Having the option to gain the look of a permanent camo with the bonus of any temporary camo should add value to both permanent and temporary camo. Players who appreciate the look of a permanent camo can obtain it safe in the knowledge that they will be able to keep that look while taking advantage of any temporary camo. P.S. I'm aware of the previous suggestion regarding freely picking visual and bonus from two different camos. But I think my suggestion is more specific and closer to what is already possible within the UI framework we have now. It also circumvents the issue of using features from two temporary camos (would using the visual be free? etc) D.S.
  6. From the example camo on the Zao it looks like they may be going for custom alternative colors for the permanent camos instead of just copying the strange teal palette from the temporary camos. The Zao camo looks more like the Atago, which is definitely a good thing as that color palette is great. Edit: Doesn't this look good?

Some interesting info around the world

More detail on local weather: ST, local weather In "Hermes" scenario a new game mechanic is introduced. Local weather will move over the map and help the players protect the convoy of ships loaded with gold from the German attacks at particular points in the scenario. Local weather will affect the ships inside the area in the following ways: decrease ship's detectability on the surface, from the air, in a smokescreen, decrease vision and time of increased detectability after firing the main batteries (5 seconds instead of 20), increase shell dispersion when firing at ships, that are in the local weather area, by a factor of 1,5 - 2. stopping at bayern

USN CA has gotten a ton of buffs over time to bring them up from their old sad state. One of these buffs was their unique lower ricochet and auto-bounce angles. After that they also got way better concealment, higher RoF and radar. But I'm veering off-topic...

Only the USN 203mm AP shells.

    stopping at bayern

KM and USN BB AP has very little in common. KM AP is high velocity and low drag, but they are very light and don't have quite the same raw penetrating power as USN shells. USN AP on the other hand is slow and high in drag, but the shells are ridiculously heavy and are very good at penetrating. Neither has any special bonuses to penetrating angles or normalization. tl;dr - KM has good ballistics but bad penetration at long range. USN has bad ballistics but great penetration at any range.

    stopping at bayern

I'm pretty sure superstructure armor is normalized across ship classes and tiers. What will usually decide if a BB is vulnerable to HE spam is if they have 32mm or less for deck/upper hull armor. Generally KM BBs are very good in this way by having thick decks and be armored all the way up the belt. Dispersion is definitely crap on KM BBs. Bayern also has really weak guns. While the guns remain inaccurate all the way up to tier 10, they become way more reliable when the do hit after the Bayern. If you don't like mainly being a tank for your team and you don't have fun trying to get use out of your secondaries, then the KM BBs are not for you. You need to get quite close to really get the most out of the ships and you won't always have that opportunity. Sniping with them isn't fun.

    Vive La France collection

Still isn't confirmed that these are the only ways to get the items. We haven't had a collection yet where you needed to buy containers, so I'm going to hold off on the condemnations for now.

    Soviet battlesh... cruiser Kronshtadt

Like I posted in the other thread: A cruiser with dispersion that would be bad for a BB?

    Nelson or Musashi?!

I own both and I would say that the Nelson is fun to play and has a very unique play style, but you're also going to be spending a lot of time bow-in just like the Musashi. What I think is nice about the Musashi is that you get those 460mm guns on a tier 9 BB. It might not seem like a big deal, but it really is. The fun of the Musashi comes from power projection and blapping any ship you can see. No one is safe. Nelsons defense is her heal and she doesn't deal with incoming damage very well. Even if it's easy to heal back, HE shells do damage all over the ship and BB AP shells go through the armor like butter, which is not as easy to heal back. Both the Nelson and the Musashi are "blessed" with a big easy to hit citadel, but the Musashi is the only one with the armor to really protect it and she also takes way less HE shell damage from cruisers. All-in-all I have fun sailing both, but the Musashi is the better performer and that absolutely adds to my desire to play her.
  17. What I enjoy about this screencap is how the dual 127mm gun is blasting away at that Yamato.

when will you stop this treasure?

Giulio Cesare is overpowered. Roma is a great ship. Duca d'Aosta is okay. I'm not seeing where your argument comes from. They keep delaying Abruzzi because she's underwhelming in testing. If they didn't care then she would be released already.
  19. That was the meme, yes. Seriously though. I think she could work with either a bit longer range (12km) or a bit better concealment. DW torps could work if they only ignored DDs. Ignoring cruisers is way too much since she has no other useful armament.
  20. For those torps to be worth it they would need to be substantially better. Like much shorter reload, much more damage etc. Just giving them longer range and better concealment isn't worth them losing out on all those possible targets. If they could hit cruisers as well I could see her working, but only just.

    Smoke changes experience

Your original experience is correct. If you fire outside of smoke in view of someone so that the max bloom sticks, and then you move into smoke, you instead get the smoke detection bloom for the remainder of the duration not the full "max range" bloom.

    Smoke changes experience

For some who demanded I'd discuss him, then began to backpedal, put up strawmen about what I've supposedly written and then straight up lying about what he has written himself, that's pretty rich. But I guess it was expected when he had nothing else left. At least I flushed out one person for who they really are. That might be worth it in the end.
