I think he's referring to if you have tier 6 Cleveland you get tier 8 Cleveland. Or maybe the split will include some way of earning some of the new cruisers outside of the normal grind.

For me there's almost always a ship that I want to play. It's just starting to get really awkward trying to skim over them all to find the one. A step to alleviate this would be to have the option to remove the text and darkening effect of not having a captain on a ship. That crap makes identifying ships at a glance almost impossible. As far as I know there isn't even a mod for this. Even when I'm not up for putting in a lot of effort I can always pick a ship like a low tier one and sail around a small low tier map just shooting at red boats.

Ashitaka. Can you buy the Kobayashi camo with doubloons?
Nechrom replied to valrond's topic in General Discussion
Didn't buy the Ashitaka when it was released because it's very very meh. Now because there has been a lack of new premiums I have some money to spare so I picked her up. It's basically how I imagined. Still decent against cruisers due to accuracy and volume of fire, but trying to damage other battleships is beyond frustrating with pre-tier 5 penetration AP shells. With the Nagato existing it's tough to justify getting a pair of extra guns at the cost of all your penetrating power and all your AA power while also having a much longer and less maneuverable ship. Scharnhorst is better, Nelson is better, Duke of York is better, even Hood is better. You'll be hard pressed to find a worse tier 7 BB. -
1 and 4 doesn't scale well with low resolutions and 3 is too hidden away. So 2 by process of elimination.

What is you latest "jinxed" new grinding ship and what do you do about it?
Nechrom replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I got past my two big hurdles just recently. New Orleans is simply a bad ship, while Benson is just in a very awkward position always facing higher tier DDs and trying to make 9.2km torps work in a sea of radar. Baltimore and Fletcher are god tier and I'm so happy that I have them now. -
missions Mission tier requirements make NO GOD DAMN SENSE!
Nechrom replied to combattank's topic in General Discussion
They don't want players to sealclub while doing missions. Seems a sensible choice. Tier V+ still gives a huge ship selection. -

Okay I misunderstood the article to mean that the shell changes was for all the USN CA and not just the tier 6 Pensacola. -

Armor and reload is one thing, but giving every USN CA 853m/s AP shells will just make them absolute face-rollers. The entire point why they got the improved AP angles in the first place was because their range and ballistics were kinda bad. Now they have everything. Super magical AP penetration angles, good velocity, heavy shells, super overbuffed krupp, great reload and great turret angles. -

Holy crap, that Stalingrad buff! 2.25 sigma and USN CA AP penetration angles. "These changes increase the combat effectiveness of Stalingrad against battleships..." Hahaha. Nope, lol. RIP cruisers. More ranked/CW gated OP crap. -
Finally a US battleship with longer range secondaries
Nechrom replied to darkstar73's topic in General Discussion
It's a South Dakota though, not a North Carolina. So the base stats are currently from the Alabama with a small twist (longer main gun range, more HP, worse AA, slightly worse concealment). But she still has the basic advantage of a South Dakota hull, so better turning circle than NC and much better TDS. Saying that 1.7 sigma makes it tier 7 is ridiculous. Mutsu (and Ashitaka) gets downtiered because they use the old A-hull 410mm AP shells which have worse penetration than the 356mm shells of the Kongo. -

Nechrom replied to darkstar73's topic in General Discussion
While I love the Alabama, I don't think there's anything you could give it to compensate for getting 1.7 sigma. Giving up effectiveness of the player controlled armament in return for improvements to the AI controlled one, doesn't sound fun. Having more reliable access to repair is a good idea though, one which I very much enjoy on the Gascogne. I understand that it's difficult to keep the ship different but not better than the Alabama, but I don't think they should go for the main gun accuracy as a trade for other perks. Have it be a bit more sluggish in maneuvering or something like that. -
My few cents on World of Warships - New player constructive criticism
Nechrom replied to anonym_vUfpz4M3loBv's topic in General Discussion
Not especially constructive criticism in my opinion. Just a subjective rant from someone with 150 battles about a core mechanic of the game which no one with any kind of experience has a problem with. Implying that there is any similarity to WoT artillery just torpedoes any argument you're trying to make. -
A 5 second spotting grace period? Can't see any issues arising from that.

I mean I get annoyed at players playing unbelievably bad, but tier IV and also co-op. I don't think I would have been very surprised.
-
Definitely. The problem with the matchmaking isn't the fact that you can face ships two tiers higher, but that it happens so often at certain tiers. Tier 3 also vacuums up all the tier 4 ships in queue, and since the MM is so quick on the trigger it will never wait for a tier 4+5 battle or a tier 5+6 battle. So here we are.
-
World of Warships is the most balanced game using mixed tiers matchmaking. I don't mind at all being bottom tier in this game as long as I also get to be mid and top tier in roughly the same number of battles. Armor, damage, penetration and health generally go up slowly over the tiers, but it's so incremental that the impact is not big on the bottom tiers in the battle. The gap between penetration and ship armor also ensures that the small differences in penetration and armor across tiers won't matter in most cases. Some stats even get worse or just vary from ship to ship, like speed, maneuverability, concealment etc. Most of the time you have some advantage to leverage over a higher tier ship. As others have pointed out multiple times already. If you are having trouble simply by virtue of being lower tier, then it's 9 times out of 10 due to you not knowing enough about the game. Keep at it.

It's your best shot. Seeing as the Cleveland is only armored on it's tiny citadel, almost every hit you get on him will be 16mm plates. This means two things: There is no angle he can present where you won't penetrate due to the overmatch mechanic. You need to hit that armor at something like 76-77° for your shells to even arm. So if you find a Cleveland broadside to you, you need to hit that tiny citadel to do any meaningful damage. Every other hit will just be an overpenetration unless he's at a pretty steep angle to you. The only other way for your shells to arm when hitting the Cleveland is hitting the gun barbettes, but that's not really something you can aim for with a battleship, so it'll just be down to luck if you do, but once again you'll have bigger chance if he's angled.
-
The Cleveland is a though nut to crack. Small citadel which is barely exposed above the waterline. It only stretches from beginning to end of the superstructure, unlike most other ships where the citadel stretches from the first to the last gun turret. For battleships you actually want cruisers to angle a bit to ensure that your shells fuse and has enough travel time inside the ship not to detonate after exiting the ship on the other side. That goes double for tough cruisers like the Cleveland.

How can you warn people for AFKing if the client breaks and refuses to load people in most of the time?
Nechrom replied to M0bius_One's topic in General Discussion
While I understand the issue, it's also your responsibility to try and get the game running reliably. Go through the standard checklist of running in safe-mode, reinstalling, updating drivers etc. When you run out of things to try you pop over to the support website where you'll probably have to run some WG application which checks things like connection quality to their servers. Then you contact support. -

With the recent announcement about the restructuring of WGEU and the fact that Kandly now does WoT community work full time. Is anyone else going to pick up the torch on this? @MrConway @Crysantos
