Let this be a lesson to us, never trigger the Battleship community!
Nechrom replied to Syrrender's topic in General Discussion
Which funnily enough has nothing to do with torpedoes or even the Shimakaze. Yes, DDs do carry torpedoes and yes, the Shimakaze is a DD. But the matchmaker can make any ship a problem if it wants to. It's not the fault of the ship. -

I have never seen a good BB captain complaining about torpedoes. Joking aside, I have no problem with the new torpedoes. I do have a problem with those torpedoes being mounted on the same Shimakaze we've had in the game since CBT which is balanced around using long range torpedoes. -

I would have written something constructive as a response, but seeing the tone and arrogance of your post I'm going to stick with: Stat-hider. Ignore and move on. -
Until you meet a US or RU DD who knows that your ship is about as sturdy as a house of cards and wins over you in a DPS race.

Couldn't have said it better myself... but I have said it just like that. Hopefully people listen to you, 'cause they sure as hell haven't listened to me. -
Hotel Zulu and Papa Papa available anywhere but on EU
Nechrom replied to Krizmuz's topic in General Discussion
I like Papa Papa because I can equip it on just my big earners (Tirpitz, MK, Murmansk etc) and get a lot of value out of them. Doesn't matter to me that it takes time to accumulate the free XP if it saves me money compared to converting for doubloons. The same goes for Hotel Zulu and both stack nicely with Equal Speed Charlie London. -
That may be true, but it also has by far the worst burn chance of all CAs. The actual dispersion doesn't matter much since that's most important for AP, which has that horrible shell velocity.

Can't speak much about the Russian line since I'm still at tier IV. But the German guns are pretty good for the most part, the Yorck is more or less the exception. Most German cruisers are pretty fragile up to and including the Yorck. It becomes a big problem with the Yorck because other cruisers have gotten better armor at that point and the Yorck guns are so bad that you can't stay at long range, get reliable hits and/or get any fires started. It's also just as easily spotted as other CAs.

Forget about Zulu Hotel, that's fairly easy to earn in-game. Why can't we buy Papa Papa signals?! -
I just can't get over how fragile it is. I mean it's not even the citadel hits, but it takes SO MUCH damage from any HE hits. The bad guns are just the nasty rotten cherry on top.

Even with both you're looking at 16.5 secs for 180° of traverse (10.9°/sec). Also the mod scales horribly with a long reload, low traverse gun since it's a modifier to reload time and traverse speed, making long reloads even longer and low traverse speeds not noticeably faster. The issue is that now you have no option but to engage the enemy DDs if you want to get within torp range. Sure you can still avoid them in most cases, but that also means you're not getting anything done. Also CA backup is more a thing for offensive DDs like the US ones that go for caps and other DDs. A DD looking to set up torp attacks will not have the luxury of staying with CA support. Torp focused DDs were always hit or miss because you're always at the mercy of everyone else, but the Shima "worked" through sheer quantity and not having to take risks. Both are bad ways to have a DD function, but the solution is not to break the one tool that worked without providing other solutions. You can't make the Shima into a tier 10 Minekaze simply by slapping melee range torps onto it and call it a day. Tier 5 doesn't have radar, tons of carrier aircraft, spotter aircraft and huge open maps. The Shima was never balanced to be in any significant danger and it still didn't do particularly well statistically even when launching at 10-20 km was viable. Hey, I would be the first one to be happy if I could play my destroyer around 8-10 km torps, it's a fun way to play DDs. But currently it's not a functioning long term playstyle with the high tier IJN DDs. -

I did the invisi-fire build for the Kagero, where it's even better than on the Shima. It was really weak simply due to the very low RoF even with complementary pre-nerf torpedoes. Having high damage HE shells (for a DD gun) with good ballistics is nice, but it doesn't come close to compensating for the awful RoF and turret traverse. The Khabarovsk has basically as good velocity and fire chance with much higher RoF and traverse. The Gearing sacrifices good ballistics and fire chance for insane RoF and traverse. The only situation where the IJN can use their DD guns effectively is when supporting another DD and they are not under fire themselves. Because you can't avoid incoming fire and return fire at the same time. I get that the low RoF is to compensate for the great HE shells, but at this point in time there is literally no reason for the IJN DDs to have this bad turret traverse speed. They could double their traverse speed and it still wouldn't come close to the other nations. This isn't the CBT where the IJNs only competition had terribad torps all the way up until the Fletcher and Gearing. -

The only issue I have with the Shima changes is that they forced her into knife fight ranges without making her viable there. The US and RU DDs completely destroys her while she's pushing in well past their max torpedo ranges. How they nerfed the long range torps was a big mistake. They were never OP, just random and devoid of skill. Now they are even more useless to the point that you can safely ignore them when you compare the DDs. You now have a sluggish 8 km range DD who's only advantages are 15 fast torps and high alpha shells, everything else is at best decent but more likely awful. Once again I want to point out that the Shima was never OP, it just rewarded lazy play and had a high morale impact. So it had to change, but not by getting nerfed, which this change resulted in. -
Since they are licensed content not owned fully by Wargaming, I don't think the license includes selling the ships for profit. I can't be certain though, but at least it's not as simple as with original WG content. Licensing deals are usually very specific about how the content can be used.

Wait, I'm having deja vu. Didn't we just have the Tirpitz in the premium shop? Am I going crazy?

How many of you finished or are about to successfully finish "Captain Extraction" in order to get 16 points "Hiei" captain?
Nechrom replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I'll probably not finish it. If I'm going to force myself to grind exclusively with tier 7+ ships for that long then it becomes a job at that point. That's not my style. I sail the ships I want to sail regardless of tier.- 110 replies

I'm running a secondaries build on my Nagato (without the 5th captain skill) and I find it very useful. They don't do a lot of damage all in all, but they have saved me more than once by finishing off cheeky cruisers and destroyers while my main guns were reloading.

The only problem I have with this map is the vast differences between both teams starting positions. If you are on the west team you have a completely useless center part of your side, while the east has great cover to move behind and can safely move to and from the center. Small maps by themselves doesn't bother me. They are a nice break from most other maps which are large.

Outside of mods there are no options to change the UI/text sizes. There are on the other hand custom over target markers available as mods. I don't have a link to any specific ones as I've only seen them in Aslain's modpack.

Sounds like a lot of work. I'm way too jaded and cynical for that. Maybe we'll get a second points system for sarcasms, snarks and bitter quips.

What can you buy with this "Karma"?
