Except this is nonsense. I pointed out what you did both on discord, and now here on the forum. And calling me "unhinged" because I refer to reality (also, I don't care what sort of diagnose you claim, I care about what you actually do). Generalizing with ad hominems, literally in a thread where most will be negative to the thing being discussed, then draping yourself in the cape of victimhood.

I don't care what "disorder" you might have. I merely point out how you act. And the whole "generalize to insult then whine when you get it returned to you" tactic is ever so old. You sit and troll people who point out what doesn't work, gloat about the forum closing but as soon as you get the same words back, you cry. I mean, your entire last line there is just a perfect example of projection.

Tbh, part of it isn't just to get megawhales to cash out for rare ships. It's just as much to create the ILLUSION of value, and the idea that any ship could become rare, thus pushing as many as possible to buy (and yes, you do buy dockyard ships) temporarily available ships (or captains or whatever else). I can still remember when this forum was able to push them from some of the early toxic monetization (ie, large bundles filled with crap to buy premium ships), and having looked at how talk is on discord (aside from a couple toxic trolls sitting there only to gloat about the forum closing) it's "I just spent 50 bucks again". So it's all part of the same strategy. Keep players as blind as possible, normalising spending several AAA games worth of cash per month "just to stay up to speed" while they gradually shift effort from improving the game into just having a couple graphics artists spam out ships (let's be real, this has been ongoing for half the games life at this point).

Well.. every edition becomes classic in time. But yes, they did return to what me and many others considered a nice middle ground between 2nd and 3rd, with a more cohesive system overall. While even to some degree taking certain parts that did work in 4e along. What they didn't do though, was close whatever venue of customer interaction wasn't most popular instead opting for whatever had most players on at any specific time... Oh.. and push more and more ideas that players overall dislike.. oh wait. wotc has done that aplenty :/

To be fair, they mostly went looking in an entirely different directions, as 5th gen has attracted a LOT of younger players. Why? Because it suited everyone to some degree (beyond the most insane number crunchers) and have had such great word of mouth that people want to try it. It's pretty much "new coke" over and over again.

it's a larger untapped customer base. people of our.. err.. adultness? generally only have time for a a select amount of games (and time to game) what they so utterly fail to grasp is that this is why this game is popular amongst us .. err.. not young anymores? is that it IS a slower paced game, that doesn't require you to set aside several evenings per week (or entire weekends) just to get anywhere. I mean, this is why I take so long breaks now, once an event begins that I just cannot finish, I just can't be bothered even really starting it, so I take a break until there's some event worth spending time with (or I get such a break I actually want to spend a little more time in game). ie, they'd rather burn the game trying to get a little jump in player numbers, than try to keep it afloat.

As I keep repeating. Discord replaced those services because it added something extra (text and image channels) and was "free". It improved on something. Discord improves nothing on the forums while taking away a lot. Even if discord by itself as a place to meet players isn't bad as such (and a lot, if not most clans use discord for voip) but it doesn't generate the same type of discussion. And the amount of "work" required by CMs to occasionally copypaste devblogs or patchnotes on a forum, and a little bit of management of volunteer mods should be miniscule, so there's no valid excuse for shutting them down. Though it does say a lot about the skeleton crew now working on WoWs.

Just gonna skip replying myself to say .. this is what I'd want to say. It shows a deep incompetence and immaturity in any so called "community manager" that they'd think in this manner. Players who frequent the forum are the long term players (ie customers) you really want to retain, and many of us frequent them without actually replying or making topics too often, because it's a place where yo can get some idea about what's going on, and see how people are thinking. Discord is as useful here as the ingame chat (which with the falling player numbers, no competent moderation - the one mod there used to be wasn't competent -, and endless bugs, nevermind 2/3s of the english channels now being spammed every which was in cyrillic, is now in the state wot chat was in 2015) as you only get the whine du jour. Ie, this is WGs knee-jerk response to a situation WG themselves created.

Nowhere most likely (or clan based discord only). Reddit to check up on what people are talking about, but it's not a place I care to engage on. None of the other allow for more serious adult discussion and really are more or less the same as the ingame chat.

The small cost there is, would be in paying whomever looks after it. The real cost is in players understanding how WG is changing monetization (endless events trying to keep players FOMO'ing where you get just not quite to what people actually want without forking over more money than makes any sort of sense, ie literally 1-2 full premium games a month worth). They're just squeezing whatever is left of the playerbase while trying to keep the few new players in the dark.

What effort? Mods do most the work here, as there's barely any responses from WG at all. Leaving the forums up would be near zero cost. Reality is, it's just more convenient for you to drown out screwups on a platform like discord.

This is beyond stupid (even for WGs team of community managers). While these forums certainly aren't always ideal, discord is a cesspit of cross talk and spam. You're literally forcing people onto a third partly platform, with dubious security, just so it will be easier to drown real critique and cut some tiny cost.

It's not been to hard to get decent results in Grom (it's not great, especially since the meta has changed so much since blyska was a beast, but it can fairly effectively compete with other similar tier DDs), but the mission chain forcing you to play it quite a bit beyond finishing researching Split is a (censored) chore.
