    #1 Whatever the amount of bombs and torpedoes that hit it, tells you only that fact. It does not tell you how many were enough to sink it or at what point the damage would be so great and the fires to intense that they would abandon ship. #1 The HP in game isn't "damage needed to sink" but "damage needed to make a ship unable to fight".

    Fine. And by the same logic we need to reduce your fuso's guns to doing about 1k damage max per shot so you can't kill a DD in a single salvo too. Fair is fair right?

    Also, smoke trails you. CAs with low reload times will take potshots along your last or most likely vector or just to get you moving somewhere.

    No that's not how it should work. You're thinking of aircraft as generals did in 1915, not as they did when designing aircraft carriers. Or do you really think it would be fun clicking on enemy scout planes for 20 minutes?

    DDs very often is in combat with other DDs. You might want to attack the BBs, but you tend to get involved in fighting the smaller ships first. Also, and I've said this before: Many ships trade other benefits for better AAA, or they even have special abilities to deal with planes. If CVs aren't a huge threat, then these ships are effectively nerfed and much less useful. Why spend captain skill points and play a ship that can screen for planes, when planes are barely more of a threat than a random BB? Why even consider a fighter loadout on a CV? Why play a US BB with better AAA and manouverability? And as others have noted, comparing damage done is utterly silly and merely used to pick some stat usable as an argument. You could do 150k in a battle, all to a single ship, and fail to sink it because that BB got to use its repair between multiple waves (quite possible against high tier BBs). Heck, you could get lucky and blow a DD out of the water in the same fight, doing a mere 17k more and that damage being of far higher value.

    Except that's just a strawman. I'm pretty sure no one here talks about auto dropped torpedoes as something anyone you could possibly fear would use or something that ought to ever hit in normal circumstances.

    His opinion on CVs are utterly wrong though. What use is there in air superiority if the threat from the air isn't huge enough to warrant both ships and aircraft dedicated semi or fully to defeating or minimizing it?

    But that was entirely my point. And nor would you need that much time of course, as BBs superstructures weren't at all that heavily armoured.

    At some point the game just have to go "this guy is so much better than that other guy that mere game mechanics shouldn't force him to be undefeatable". Also, Devs have stated several times that the "hp" value isn't merely "do this much damage to sink", but the damage needed to make a ship incapable of fighting. Sure a DD or CA could fire all their ammo and could fail to make a yamato sink unless you made its ammo stores explode, however much before that it would just be a smoking but still floating wreck.

    Erm, that was my entire point. Saying that any ship should sink or get sunk by any other ship due to historical reasons would make it a bad game.

    Actually it wouldn't. Entirely dependent on the setups of either CV it's likely broken in some other way (much due to the ridiculous scaling of fighters, your t5 planes would be just a statistic for the t8 cv). CV balancing as CVs currently are just don't allow for a balanced battle with any sort of tier differences, nevermind a 3 tier one. Additionally, if the MM did what you suggest, it would be very easy to manipulate it to get setups you want to see.

    You should maybe try thinking, it's nothing to be scared about. After doing a bit of that you might want to look back on this thread and remember how you were before you started thinking.

    Also, as CVs are capped at two per team, platooning with a lower than yourself tier CV will always be a very bad move.

    This is the sort of undeducated, self important, ridiculous drivel that causes devs to throw even more buffs at battleships, so no matter how much of a total failure you are, you're not going to get penalised for it. "I'm in a battleship so I should do more damage, take less damage and as easily avoid damage as any other ship".

    I also see capable BBs dodge torps all the time. Every torp? No, but are you asking to be immune to the single ship type designed to sink you?
