RIP tier 2 Borodino
-
Your best defense against radar is making a note of what ships have it on the enemy team by checking at the start of the game, keeping a track of where they are on the map and just staying out of their radar range, which shouldnt be too difficult with Neptune. In fact, Neptunes should very rarely be so close to such ships. If you are firing at an enemy closer than 9.5km then its possible for your shells to ricochet off their deck due to the shallow angle of impact, even with your improved RN CL penetration angles, so bear that in mind as well. All soviet cruisers that have radar (Chapa, Dmitri Donskoi, Kronstadt, Moskva and Stalingrad) have a range of 12km Belfast has a range of 8.5, all other UK cruisers with radar (Edin, Neptune and Mino) have a range of 10km (RN CLs obviously prefer smoke in randoms, except Belfast which has the luxury of both) American heavy cruisers (Indianapolis, Buffalo, Des Moines, Alaska) have a range of 10km, except Baltimore who has a range of 9km and Salem who has 8.5km American light cruisers (Cleveland, Montpelier, Seattle, Worcester) have a range of 9km, except Atalanta who has a range of 8.5km American battleship Missouri has a range of 8.5km Pan Asian destroyers Hsienyang, Chungmu and Yeuyang have a range of 7.5km (although in randoms PA DDs tend to prefer smoke over radar and the radar only lasts 20/22/25 seconds). With the exception of some premiums the common ranges are 12km for russians, 10km for US and UK cruisers and 9km for US CLs, always bear that in mind when these ships are present on the enemy team. This skill will prove even more vital when playing higher tier DDs. Radar is all about awareness and intel, and you counter it with awareness and intel. Keep a track of where it is, what range it has, when you know it's been used. Neptune doesn't really have the speed needed to outrun an encroaching radar ship like some DDs are capable of doing, so you must keep them out of that range in the first place.

3 invitations for 1 recruit container? (plz reply)
Benser33 replied to chris_von_dude's question in Q&A Section
Was the container not automatically delivered to you ingame? -
If it takes more than a handful of people saying the same thing to you, including an actual community manager, then you should consider that it is infact your perceptions that are wrong. Nonetheless, if you do have issues with receiving chat bans that you feel are not justified then contact support directly. It is unlikely they will repeal you ban (and most times will not respond fast enough to do so anyway) but you can request the logs of what caused the ban, if you still feel the ban was unjustified then you can attempt to claim as such and if WG agrees you'll get an apology and any record of the ban will be removed.

The only known tier 9 ship in development is German Large Cruiser Siegfried based on the O Project battlecruiser. No news yet on how it will be obtained or when.

Kitakaze is probably in the top 3 reasons, if not the #1 reason, for why IFHE is being changed. It is simply far too strong right now so I wouldn't expect to see any sort of buffs to compensate for the IFHE change either.

how can i get the 4th anniversary badges+flag?
Benser33 replied to chris_von_dude's question in Q&A Section
I don't remember any rewards referred to as "14 days of gifts", it sounds like the daily shipments which was 10 rewards over 14 days, which ended on Oct 4th. Also, I made a mistake with my previous post. You will receive the anniversary symbol when your account becomes 4 years old, but the 4 year flag was an anniversary reward for completing a mission series, sorry. -
how can i get the 4th anniversary badges+flag?
Benser33 replied to chris_von_dude's question in Q&A Section
You will receive the 4th anniversary symbol and flag when your account is 4 years old, because they are for 4 years of service, not celebrating wows 4th anniversary (though they were added during the anniversary for obvious reasons). The rewards for the anniversary event ended when patch 0.8.9 arrived on the 17th. -
The change to IFHE specifically was a reduction in the penetration bonus from +30% to +20% and changing the penalty to halved fire chance. This change was accompanied by a number of armor changes. I summarised the changes that had been proposed so far in this post.

Imo, the reward for spending thousands on premium ships is the ability to play thousands of euroes worth of premium ships and any investment in the game is returned as the continued existence of the game and continued development with new features, events, ship lines, etc being added. The collectors club was not designed to be exclusive for people to whale upon but you cannot currently obtain it owning only standard ships, nor can you obtain it owning only premium ships as currently (not including upcoming Italian or British standard ships) there are only 208 standard ships in the game and 130 premiums (of which only a limited number have been available for free). Even if you own every standard ship you still need to buy/obtain a further 42 premiums. But, I only know the collectors club rewards for what it is at the moment. I like to collect ships, I own over 300 of the 338 ships that exist, but I collect them because I like ships not because I care about the emblem and I'm not aware of any plans to expand upon the existing benefits as it is. It's a question to pose to either S_O on reddit or to people like @MrConway or @Crysantos during their live streams.

The Steam DLCs are a subject of some contention. For users who have adopted WoWS through Steam they get access to all of the discounts and sales available through the WG premium shop and the bundles that are for sale via Steam which on occasion have been heavily discounted. Players like myself who have played the game since day 1 never had the opportunity to play the game with a Steam account (or did not want to start again from scratch) and so cannot buy any of the extremely cheap Steam DLC content. A lot of players have complained about this and as such WGs response has been to shift more of the sales towards the premium shop and the armory ingame. I would not expect to see them expand upon the Steam DLC any time soon, or they will simply draw more ire from the community members who cannot buy that stuff. The Collectors Club is the exclusive program for players who own a significant number of ships. Presently I believe that even after the release of the italian and british CA lines it still wont be possible to reach 250 ships without owning at least some premiums, even if you own every regular ship in the game. While it currently only rewards players with badges, insignias and emblems, the original version of the Collectors Club on the RU servers had more features, but it is now standard across all regions that only the emblems are rewarded. I'm not aware of any planned changes, perhaps you can reach out to Sub_Octavian on reddit when he next does an open Q&A session.

It costs them time and money to make that stuff so WG always seems to demand that people have to spend a lot of time and/or money to obtain them themselves. Hopefully theyll have a chance to drop from the regular containers, which I'm sure I've had happen in the past, and they'll make a number of them obtainable just by playing.
-
It looks as though the containers are indeed the only way to currently get any of the halloween themed skins. You can get 3 premium containers from Saving Transylvania Super Hard for earning 3, 4 and 5 stars, as you mentioned. You can get 3 premium containers from Sunray in the Darkness Super Hard, also for earning 3, 4 and 5 stars. Activating the twitch mission in this article by hitting the orange button will give you a mission to obtained 4 stars in Saving Transyvania, then 4 stars in Saving Transylvania Hard, then 4 stars in Saving Transylvania Super Hard which ultimately rewards 4 regular containers. This makes most of them unattainable unless you can find a div, but we are still only in the first part of the halloween event. Part 2 starts on October 31st and will include a new game mode and a new armory section to spend a new resource, so hopefully more of the normal and premium containers will be available and I have no doubt that some of the skins will show up for dubloons.

Ok, but 152mm of penetration at 5km 87mm of penetration at 10km 51mm of penetration at 15km Courtesy of https://wowsft.com click to enlarge. For anyone who cant find Mainz on the penetration curves (the ones that start in the top left) it's the bottom one. Which is the sort of AP penetration you might expect of a tier 8 cruiser firing the shells of a tier 5.
-
Since Smolensk, Colbert and Bayard all followed the rules for armor and penetration of the IFHE rework it seemed as such. But the new italian and british CAs do not appear to follow the rules, so who knows. We may have to wait for an update or Q&A opportunity from WG.

ST - Black Friday, Sansonetti's personalizations and skills, Regia Marina emblems
Benser33 replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
Like last year it is possible they will be cheaper than their standard prices. -
Mainz needs a DPS buff, it can barely outperform the Nurnberg at present.

Any possibility of a Dive Bomber 'buff' for the Graf Zeppelin?
Benser33 replied to ColaholicA's question in Q&A Section
Imo, GZ AP bombers are the worst DBs in the game, and that includes the change that replaced the Stukas they previously launched. Their unique reticle/drop pattern is fairly useless when the 2 bomb dispersion leads to a 50% chance of no hits at all. It really is a shame.- 10 replies

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNAust_27-50_Skoda.php 12 for anti ship, 4 for AA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Škoda_7_cm_K10 http://www.navypedia.org/ships/austrohungary/ah_bb_viribus_unitis.htm The 16x 7cm K10 TAG guns are not dual purpose (see above, they only elevate to 20°). The AA version of this gun was not invented until 1915, 3 years after VU was commissioned. Once the AA variant entered service VU was fitted with 4 of these guns, atop her turrets. The existing TAG guns were not upgraded to dual purpose guns.

Tier 5 HMS Hawkins of the Hawkins class is a real ship. Tier 6 HMS Devonshire of the County class London sub-type is a real ship. Tier 7, Surrey, is an imagining of the final sub-type of the County class, the Surrey type, sometimes refered to as the 1927 heavy cruiser program, while initially approved for construction they were cancelled in 1930. The tier 8, 9 and 10 seem to mostly be fantasy. The tier 8, Bedford, resembles the 1940 heavy cruiser project which was designed to be armed with 3x3 8" guns but only have armor protection proof against 6" guns. The tier 9, Drake, sounds like the 1938/1939 heavy cruiser designs for a 33knt 15-20k ton heavy cruiser armed with 9.2" guns and protected against 8" shells. This was one of the proposals drawn up for Churchill as he pushed for the admiralty to implement a "treaty cruiser killer", which would ultimately prove uneconomical due to the lack of any existing 9.2" guns in service. The tier 10 resembles nothing I recognise, its probably a Lesta design, looks like theyve modeled it off Conqueror and given it those hideously outdated mast towers, the unfathomably ugly bridge tower and these unbelievably vulnerable turret barbettes.

None of VUs7cm deck guns are capable of AA and lack sufficient calibre to work as secondary guns also, only the 7cm guns mounted on the turrets can perform AA.

You are of course correct that I cannot just assume the guns will perform the same, however I must address that some of your information is also out of date. Since the patch that both focused all AA damage on the lead plane of a squadron and "smoothed out" the way continuous AA damage is dealt, all guns now deal an amount of damage every 0.29 second regardless of their calibre. However, although a lot of similar AA guns are now extremely similar in performance, they are not the same. Some of this could be justified by the difference in AA mount, for example, although the 4 US examples all use 127mm/38 guns for AA, the Kidd uses them in a Mk30 mod 0 mount, the Cleveland and NoCar in the Mk 32 mount and Enterprise in the Mk 24 mount. But, the story is still not so simple. Even looking at incredibly similar sisters, like North Carolina, Alabama and Massachusetts. North Carolinas 15x4 40mm Bofors Mk2 do 389 DPS, but Massas 15x4 40mm Bofors Mk2 (the exact same set up) do 392 DPS. Alabamas 12x4 40mm Bofors Mk2 do 312 DPS. Although incredibly similar all, this still works out as Massa doing 26.13 DPS per mount, Bama doing 26 DPS per mount exactly and NoCar doing 25.93 DPS. A difference of ~0.8%, but an inconsistency nonetheless. I'll also mention here that the T5 premium Texas does 28 per mount, T7 premium California does 26 per mount, T9 Georgia does 25.81, Iowa does 25.42, Montana does 25.4 and Ohio does 25.2. All of these ships are equipped with the 4x 40mm Bofors Mk2 and the higher tier you go the less DPS they do each. Ohio and Texas both have 10 of these mounts, but Texas does 280 DPS and Ohio does just 252. And this is after WG also changed aircraft to have less HP difference between tier 4 and tier 10, to reduce the AA descrepancy between diferent tiers. However, I assumed that even if the performance of the same gun between two ships of the same nation, class and tier varied by less than 1% it would be safe enough to assume they might not vary at all. Though the 1951 ACAD exists on various ships ingame at the moment; Colbert ACAD 42.4 DPS each Henri IV ACAD 43.75 DPS each Jean Bart ACAD 40.7 DPS each Mogador ACAD 59.5 DPS each Kleber ACAD 52.5 DPS each Hence I based my theoretical DPS estimate off Marceaus ACADs having the same performance as Klebers (and mounting only 4 of them as Kleber does in place of the 5 mounts for 40mm Bofors). They could just as easily replace the bofor guns with ACAD mounts and not increase the AA performance at all, making the change purely aesthetic.

Legendary Upgrades - Stage 5 - Earn 40000 Base XP
Benser33 replied to Maihon's question in Q&A Section
In the past WG claimed that newly released tier 10s needed some time to find their place in the meta before they commited time to working out what a viable legendary module might look like. There are some rumours circulating of new legendary modules arriving via the Research Bureau. -
Klebers AA suite; 2x 57mm ACAD: 15 damage every 0.29s = ~51.7 DPS x4 mounts = ~210 DPS Total: 210 DPS Short/Mid/Long Range: 0/3.8/0 DPS: 210/210/0 Flak: none Marceaus AA suits; 2x 20mm mk20: 4 damage every 0.29s = ~13.7 DPS x4 mounts = ~56 DPS 4x 40mm Bofor: 10 damage every 0.29s = ~34.4 DPS x3 mounts = ~103 DPS 2x 40mm Bofor: 5 damage every 0.29s = ~17.2 DPS x2 mounts = ~35 DPS 2x 127mm/54 Mod '48: 6 damage every 0.29s = ~21 DPS x4 mounts = ~84 DPS Total: 278 DPS Short/Mid/Long Range: 2/3.5/6 DPS: 278/194/56 Flak: 4 clouds doing 1680 damage If Marceaus theoretical AA suite was more like Kleber, and she had mounted her 57mm ACADs instead of the 5 Bofors mounts (since these guns share the same location on the hull) she would gain a net total AA DPS of 72 and her medium AA aura would extend by 300m. Although as standard her AA DPS would only increase to 350 DPS at most, when you consider that should could further increase this by 50% with DFAA and 35% with reinforcement (if she doesnt take MFAA) she can put out an incredible 708 DPS. Her current spec allows her to achieve 562 DPS and she has flak, both of which make her AA a substantial improvement over Klebers AA. Personally, I see no issue with her AA DPS if she had the 57mm ACADs from a balance perspective. From a historical perspective, there is no reason Marceau would not have the 57mm ACAD mounts instead, though they mounted 57mm Bofors instead of the 40mm Bofors found on Marceau the ACAD mount itself was an automated system with a built in radar director that could track targets without manual intervention, a very interesting turret that you would definitely expect to see on an AA destroyer such as Marceau (and French AA vessels such as Colbert) should she have existed.
