On the Roon the AA module and manual AA should be just fine to swat planes out of the sky. However on the Hindenburg most of your AA DPS is located on the 37 mm guns, that with the AA module outrange your 105 (6 km range vs 5.4). So here it's not as simple as on the Roon IMO. Manual AA on the Roon is more efficent if you want to counter planes (even though I went AFT because Tirpitz level of secondaries and German Hydro), but if you want to use the same captain on the Hindenburg AFT is not a bad option, because of a 7.2 km AA bubble with ~210 DPS, and a panic range of 6.5 with 146 DPS. @1MajorKoenig: I would go DE, if you had the choice between those skills. DE with the reload module gives you more options against angled targets, and you would be suprised just how many fires you can set while doing a good chunk of damage every 8.8 seconds.

Actually no, +-2 is perfectly fine. A bottom tier ship still has the capability of doing really well or even carrying the team depending on ship class and game mode. Taking the WoT comparison again, in WoT things like armor and penetration mainly has a much much larger effect on performance ingame. In WoWs, a torpedo will still hurt and has the chance to cause flooding, AP shells have no real issues to penetrate targets sometimes 3 tiers higher than themselves, HE and fires are still a great tool and capping and spotting XP can get you far in a match. My personal problem is like I said not the spread itself, but when the spread most of the time puts you in higher tier games and you rarely get to face your own tier.
-
+-2 is actually the best spread you can have currently, because even as bottom tier you can do more than in for example WoT. The problem is not so much the spread, but the tiers 5-6 where you are constantly up tiered. If there was a more even chance of getting into a same tier or +1 game then it would be fine, instead of constant +2 uptiering.

The Svietlana are a bad ship

I personally thought it was pretty underwhelming after the Bogatyr. I would probably enjoy the Karlsruhe more with the better torps and improved Hydro at tier 4. -
The Wiki is full of either outdated information or information from people who don't really have a large clue of what they are writing. Case in point, the Izumos wiki page. I mean come on, one of the cons in that section is "HE shells WILL set you on fire", and "Extremely prone to fires". Really? That is a bit like saying "DD's have weak armor", it sort of says it iself does it not?

The topic is offcourse valid, and I don't disagree with the fact that there is a lot of staying back and campy meta, especially in higher tiers. What bothers me is that when for example the OP here blames cowards and people not pushing and taking the lead, when he sits on a very high survival ratio himself and the rest of the stats are average at best, so he fits very nicely into the whole camping sterotype. Hell I could probably learn a thing or two about surviving from the OP since my survival ratio is a bit crap
-
I did read what the OP said, and then went to check his profile only to find that A) he is hiding it so calling people cowards is a bit hypocrite IMO and B) after checking third party sites he is complaining about people sitting far back and using their team as meatshields when the OP has a whole 25% higher survival ratio than the server average, and below average damage and just above average winrate. So basically what I deduce from the info that is given to me, is that the OP hates people like himself. That is not really elitism. Yes there is a whole lot of camping in this game, but glass houses and all that.

Lately my overall performance has just been bad, but that is mainly due to me. I have just done stupid mistakes and miscalculated a lot of the situations in certain ships, and in other ships I'm improving, so it certainly has its up and downs.
-
25k XP after modifiers is fairly simple to get after you have done your daily wins and got a couple of premium games/ships with XP flags in. 25k base XP on the other hand? After ~2 hours of gaming I'm barely scratching 7k XP. Not bothering with this, thanks.

Keyword here is annoying. What people tend to forget is that it takes a very long time burning down for example a same tier BB, and the more HE you fling at it the more saturated the parts of the ship becomes, so your damage drops like a rock and thus fires are the only way to get reliable damage on heavily angled targets. And once again, to ships that have heals, HE and fire damage is 100% repairable. On ships that don't have heals, stop firing, disengage to your detection range, use your repair and just vanish. And if you can't do that, kite away and fire back or just go ham. Works aswell.
-
Guess I have to give it to that DD division, they were annoying as all hell.
-
And as primarily a BB player myself I think fires are fine. So where do we go from now?
-
India Yankee flags, damage control system mod 1-2, premium repair party, premium damage control, dreadnought flags, basics of survivability, fire prevention, high alert, jack of all trades, clever use of damage control, positioning, use of cover. With all of these tools, fire should not be a problem, and they are not.

Roon - can i get your advice on my gameplay ?
ollonborre replied to Mrzero001's topic in Videos & Streams
First of all, premium consumables and camo. You are at tier 9 now, and the benefit vastly overweighs the cost. Incoming fire alert is a pretty bad skill, considering you have priority target (that is much better IMO) for 1 point, and the direction center for catapult planes that gives you more utility. As for the game, you start off by beeing a bit passive. The Roon is durable and has pretty good concealment with concealment expert and concealment module (~10.9 or soemthing if I'm not mistaken) so pushing into caps early is a viable tactic. If I were you I would have angled and pushed straight into C from the start, thus putting you into a good position closer to the enemy were your DPM can really shine. And while we are on DPM, your engagement with the North Carolina. Versus a bow on or heavily angled BB, use HE, preferably with demo expert. But as soon as you start getting a bit more broadside, switch to AP and fire into the superstructure until you get mroe broadside so you can chew away at its upper hull. Now the cyclone, you know it's coming 5 minutes in advance, so start to advance towards the enemy. As it happend you were a bit to far away when it hit so you had to sail for a bit to assist your team. The Roon and Hindenburg perform nicely in a cyclone with their turtleback, punishing broadsides and torpedoes, so beeing close to the enemy when the cyclone starts makes you even more dangerous. Those were the things that popped into my head when I skimmed through the video. If there is anything I missed maybe some other forumite can point it out or if the OP has any questions I will try to answer the best I can. -
Well my influence was apparently not enough when a Yamato, 2 DD's, a Fredrich der grosse, a Taiho and a Zao decided their mission in life was to chase me to the corner of the earth. Top tier just makes you the center of attention I find.
-
Is free XP bad now? I can take yours if you don't want it.
-
I prefered the reload module on the Roon and now on my Hinden. I feel that the DPM you can achieve is a bit too good to pass up on trying to be an inferiour Zao. And with the turtleback and Hydro you are not afraid to push in, and delivering painful salvoes every 8.8 seconds.

Too much credits im so filthy rich...how to spent it....?
ollonborre replied to Genie_of_the_Lamp's topic in General Discussion
Sitting at only 7 million at the moment, recently bought my Donskoi and the modules and upgrades aint cheap (and I hate the ship, blergh), and I bought an Aoba and fully upgraded it. But with the massive amounts of Ocean Souls camos I got during the Santa box thing and the premium camo on my Hindenburg I bought while drunk (thanks brain, atleast that gives me a reason to play it more) money is flowing in at a steady pace so it's not bothering me so much. -
Why does a Team Killer Penalty not get removed when stated?
ollonborre replied to Migantium_Mashum's topic in General Discussion
He is right though. If your ally have the time to run into your torps then they were fired without much care, and thus its more your fault. Had a prime example yesterday, me in my Fiji and I just started speeding up from my smoke to torpedo an enemy BB 5 km away from me. Now behind me was a Tirpitz that fired torps next to my smoke and ofc they hit me and killed me. Now he complained that he had no idea I was going to speed up, but that is my point. If you have no clue what your ally is doing or heading, don't torp from behind them. -
Fire prevention + damage control mod
ollonborre replied to anonym_TymY49y5i0fs's topic in Battleships
But is it 100% a must have? Personally I'm not convinced since first of all it is expensive at 4 points, secondly it only reduces one source of damage (granted it can be a big source of damage), and thirdly with inertia HE the damage recieved by CL's is still going to be substantional. Will have to play alot more to be really sure though. -
But, no one here has denied that, as far as I am aware. I play HE spammers currently because it is simply the best way to deal with the current BB population and actually winning and doing damage (which for me, is fun). And despite this I am fully aware of my ammo selection and even on the squishy CL's I play I can manage ~30-40k AP damage with a couple of citadels fairly reliably.

this game is [edited] game fo teh year and will be in 2017
ollonborre replied to Fizzy_Odin's topic in Archive
Been having a 66% winrate during the last month, so no problem here. As for yourself, you have not been winning anymore than you have been loosing and hover around your average winrate, so again, see no real problem here. -
My highest damage so far in the Chapy, and it was a bit of annoying defeat.
-
You do? I just fling a full AP volley at it and that usually discourage most sane players to back off. Due to the RoF HE is only properly effective vs bow on BB's since their damage control has a longer cooldown. Not saying it can be effective vs some cruisers, but generally not.

Tier 8 ships still have great potential in tier 10 games. It's all about picking the righ fight and supporting the righ ships on your team. I say this because it is by no means as bad as playing tier 5 or 6 currently, and in the tier 8 ships I play at the moment tier 10 games are actually kinda fun and it helps me farm a ton of XP.
