And this is kind of the main problem. The level of play in ops is in general terrible, and while a terrible cruiserplayer in an op can still do something, a terrible DD player is a liability 90% of the time. Yes there are some operatins where some DD's are very useful and some DD players can make them work in almost every operation. But the operations tend to not be designed around DD play in the first place, since aircraft are everywhere and the sheer number of ships limits torpedo boats since they just can't kill everything as fast as a cruiser can for example.

It doesn't. As long as you are aware that the armor is not really much of an improvement over the Omaha tier for tier and the somewhat lazy shells you should enjoy it. The mid range AA is murderous, it handles really well, you get superheavy AP so AP should be your primary ammo and with 10 guns your HE still hurts a lot. Turret traverse is bad though and you tend to need time in order to rack up big damage numbers since your reload is quite slow. In randoms it is a fun and quite strong ship, in operations it murders everything at the moment.

What will be fun is battleship Moskva vs battleship Hindenburg when it gets its legendary module. Even with a 1 sec reload nerf it still has 12 guns with nice RoF and 1/4 HE pen. So I predict a ton of Hindens when the Moskva buff goes through.
-
Fire prevention, basics of survivability, damage control module 1 and 2, fire flags, not using your damage control instantly, using your heal for maximum effect. Or just blap the HE spammer. Pick one or several of these things and fires are much less of a hassle.

Considering the Moskva is not really sticking out that much in overall statistics, it's kind of a "meh" ship in my eyes. Yes it has lol tier 8 BB HP, yes it has a 50 mm deck, yes it has a very long range radar. I am fully aware of the capabilities of the ship, I just don't find it that special in the focus order as some other tier 10 cruisers. Des Moines is a much more terrifying radar threat and it can abuse terrain much better so dislodging it is trickier. HIV has a higher damage potential and is sonic fast at long range so hitting it can be annoying. Zao is a sneaky flamethrower. Minotaur is extremely sneaky and has scary DPM if it catches you. And the Hindenburg just derps around doing whatever it wants. The 50 mm bow plating is going to make it a very insane bow tanker, but you still have to deal with high detectibility, low manuverability, not that good DPM and due to the vulnerable citadel and the radar threat it poses you will not be able to get close that much anyways. I still have respect for the Moskva and don't deny it as a threat, but if it were not for that radar I would focus any other cruiser instead.

When will there be a ranked period again?
ollonborre replied to Xectic's topic in Newcomers' Section
I think it was tier5 and 6 in the same game. However since tier 5 did not have some of the more, annoying, ships that exist today you were pretty much letting your team down if you did not bring a tier 6. -
127mm secondaries of Republic with IFHE
ollonborre replied to Jack_Sparrow123's topic in General Discussion
Well GK can pen 31 mm of armor without IFHE, and 41 mm with it. So the raw damage is certainly something. -
Tier 7 premium DD's: which is the best?
ollonborre replied to Akagi_Nee_Sama's topic in General Discussion
And yet the 9.2 are arguably the most flexible IMO. The speed is pitiful and watching a torp do 3200 damage to a Mushashi the other day was pretty dishartening. But the range is pretty good, they are very stealthy and they reload fast so they become a pretty nice area denial weapon. -
Is anyone else trying to use the higher tier French CA's?
ollonborre replied to Psychodogstick's topic in Cruisers
Been experimenting with both on the HIV, but on the Martell I went full concealment. While you do want to fire all the time pretty much having 10.5 km concealment when you absolutely must disengage is worth its weight in gold. But that was like I said how I played and it worked for me. -
The Ibuki is the only ship in a long time that I actively did not want to play. After the fabulous Myoko and the squishy but fun 155 Mogami, you end up with something that don't get the proper firepower jump like the former and for some reason feels even squishier than the latter. I don't really have any tips like the other posters already pointed out, the way I did it was to slap on the range mod and just bulldoze my way to the Zao and never look back.

ollonborre replied to Psychodogstick's topic in Cruisers
They are. Martel is possibly the best silver tier 8 cruiser at the moment. What you lack in utility (only a fighter plane) you make up for it in firepower and support. The speed allows you to reposition and provide support whetever needed. And the 17.8 km range with 9 203 mm guns and a 10 second reload makes you a real danger even for tier 10 ships. The other two I enjoy aswell, and while I have been struggling a bit with the HIV it has started to click more lately. -
Looking at your ships I would use the Schorsch or Gneisenau. You have better than your average winrate in them and you should easily be able to rack up 70k damage. Schorsch you just set everything on fire, and while the Gneis has some temperemental guns it is still a BB.

http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Flags Here you have all the flags and the associated achievment that is required to get them (unless you pick the flag container, which you should).

To be fair those torps are disgusting at tier 5 on a ship with 5.5 km concealment. Then again it mostly plays in tier 6+ anyways so it is pretty alright in the current MM.
-
This. Mousing over the line tells you the exact number of missions you have completed, and the progress on your current mission. Why isn't it just a number from the beginning? No idea, but it's no mayor annoyance.

Personally I have kept both the Richeliue and the Alsace even though I have the République since all of them offer different playstyles and I enjoy them for different reasons. While my performance so far is not brilliant I really like the République the most thus far. You don't have many guns and the 2 turret setup can be awkward at times. But the overall consistency and penetration of the guns are really satisfying. And while it is arguably the squishiest tier 10 BB with 32 mm plating all over, completely flat broadside and massive size it is still a tier 10 BB so you can still expect to tank a ton of damage.
-
The Mogami is a tricky ship to play due to the squishyness. Going for both the rudder modules is IMO the way to go. Having a 3.4 sec ruddershift really helps with surviving when you have to go into the open waters. And with concealment expert you still have a nice 10.3 km concealment.

Tier X 5000d Camo vs T9 Free EXP Ship?
ollonborre replied to Hannibalurg's topic in General Discussion
The credit earning potential of the free XP premiums are higher than the premium camos. But a premium camo cost 5000 gold, and the Kronstadt or Musashi cost the equivalent of 30 000 gold. So unless you don't already have that XP by playing the premium camo is going to be more than enough for credit and captain grinding. And if you have a tier 10 you should be close to or already have a 19 point captain if you brought it with you all the way. EDIT: This was a below average game for me, but as you can see the credit reward is not bad (with premium and Zulu flag) even though I run with all premium consumables. -
Upcoming Roon / Hindenburg reload nerf
ollonborre replied to Paimentaja's topic in General Discussion
It is anything but sub-par. The reload nerf is a bit unwarranted IMO if the argument is that the legendary module will make it too strong, well in that case nerf the legendary module then? -
My short guide to "how to play Großer Kurfürst"
ollonborre replied to Fiery_Kathy's topic in Battleships
That sounds like a detonation and it can happen to all ships. As for easily being destroyed, uh not really. It would take a lone DD minutes if you get unlucky with fire RNG to take down a Kurfurst from full HP.- 30 replies

What is my Tirpitz doing in a Tier 10 match?
ollonborre replied to superbibor's question in Q&A Section
-Focus weaker enemies. -Focus cruisers. -Take pot shots at whatever broadside you get. -Use HE on angled targets. -Use your speed and lol turtleback to reposition without getting mega punished. Tier 8 MM is pretty suck at the moment, but there is always something you can do atleast, even if that something is taking damage so your team can advance or switch position. -
"As good as it gets": 250% (PERCENT) extra for top 3 in the team... Implementation fail
ollonborre replied to NicramDuel's topic in General Discussion
Noticed that aswell, yay for typos. Oh well 250 extra XP is 250 extra XP I suppose. -
With the addition of that little line it has become easier with both the minimap and using the binos. But I primarily use the binos, and the way I do it is simply looking at how the ships move (sounds obvious, but that is seriously the way I do it). I find it hard to explain why since it comes pretty natural, but try to use both the compass in the bottom left and the heading of the enemy ship. That way you can work out your own angle to the enemy ship and thus you can see the angle of the enemy ship. That is how it works for me atleast.
-
I think this is the one you mean: https://world-warships.com/battle-angle-for-world-of-warships/ This one is legal according to WG, but honestly you can work out the angle yourself with a bit of learning so for me the practical use is of little value. But again it is legal and could be a good learning tool.

The new Pepsi is absolutely hilarious. It still retains very powerful AA defense even without any sort of specing into it, and with def AA you melt squads just as quickly if not quicker than the old Cleveland. And the guns... 203 mm US AP at tier 6 is a sight to behold. I also like how people said the new Pepsi would be crap in operations, to that I ask, have you even tried it? In the current operation you can overmatch anything that isn't a BB, and those that are BB's you can fling HE that makes an Aoba blush since you fire 10 shells as opposed to 6. The Pepsi has become my new go to operation ship, and in randoms (altough I have only played one, using the operations to get my captain up a bit) it is certianly just as much fun as the old Cleveland, just a different kind of fun.
