Buff/reduce Republiques current superstructure
ollonborre replied to Affeks's topic in General Discussion
In my experience the Republique has the most comfortable BB guns after the Yamato. Sure wonky dispersion is always present (it is a BB after all) but fantastic penetration, 431 mm guns, 2.0 sigma and fast RoF still makes the guns really pleasant to use. So again on the topic at hand, all the Republique needs is just that tiny strip being made into 32 mm of armor. It will still be the squishiest tier 10 BB but you can atleast angle it somewhat more effectively. -
As others already pointed out, if you take a max range gunfight with a DD in a Cleveland, you are in general doing it wrong. That beeing said if a Shima and a Cleve engage in a gunfight at long range and the Cleve is somewhat competent the sheer amount of shells and the Shimas lackluster gunpower will still end up in a dead Shima. Also upgraded Cleveland has 36k HP, and I would not really say it has low manuverability. If the Cleveland has low manuverability then the Donskoi is a supertanker by comparision. And on a sidenote, since when does the Shima have 13+ km range? I always thought it had something like 11 km.

I think the Cleveland don't fair any worse than any other tier 8 cruiser in tier 10. Playing it like a tier 6 Cleveland and abusing the terrain works just as well on tier 8 as it did on tier 6. And since it now has every standard cruiser consumable pretty much the utility is just fantastic. The Cleveland is a keeper, and I predict it will be a go to ship in tier 8 Ranked.

New challenging game modes
ollonborre replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
You mean Bastion? Because that was a brilliant idea Well the idea was not bad, just the implementation (so WG business as usual then). -
next WG objective: Zero players in Operations
ollonborre replied to OOAndreasOO's topic in General Discussion
Or they could just make that damn difficulty button valid. Select normal (or maybe it is easy, can't remember) and you get the previous easier op but with slightly fewer rewards. Or you select hard and get higher rewards but get stomped if you are not coordinated or "gud". That way you can still farm in a relaxed mode or you can select the slightly masochistic mode and get higher rewards but probably a higher failure rate. I don't mind the harder ops in general, but I also don't mind a more relaxed and fun op aswell. -
20 seconds feel like an eternity when you get shot at, but way to short when you fire at someone else. So just a feeling.

I run it as a torp boat/cap hybrid and it is still a potent ship. The torps have a short ish range for tier 10 but do their job. Basically even with the more frequent radar matchups it can still outcontest any other DD, keep an eye out for radar ships and even they can be torped or pushed out without much danger and once you get an opening your fast reloading torps are a danger to BB's or cruisers. And smoking up within 10 km of a BB or radarless cruiser (or a cruiser whos radar is already used) your AP is very potent.

A case for Secondary Spec German Battleships
ollonborre replied to TheEntireGermanEmpire's topic in General Discussion
Because the effectiveness of AA is arguably higher than that of secondaries. And while Carriers are very rare, the point and module cost of getting a pretty good AA spec for a BB is much lower than getting usable secondaries. -
The GC is incredibly strong though, especially considering it can quite comfortably perform even compared to BB's 2 tiers higher.

A case for Secondary Spec German Battleships
ollonborre replied to TheEntireGermanEmpire's topic in General Discussion
They should look over the whole secondary thing in general though. If it is just a gimmick, why make such a huge song and dance routine and have it as a selling point for certain ship branches? Going secondary builds are a fun novelty that while I do enjoy it, it requires such a huge investment that sometimes you are at a disadvantage trying to play to a ships supposed strength. -
You mean like every ship in the game since beta? And the Moskva that wrecked my Kurrywurst with AP today probably don't share your oppinion about that AP. Or any of the Moskvas I face in clanwars.

Mission Task Difficulty vs. RNG for the avg. player
ollonborre replied to Dane_With_No_Name's topic in General Discussion
Or alternatively, just do the captain XP and credit ones multiple times and save yourself a lot of stress. Apart from the supercontainer rewards the rest of the task rewards range from not worth to just alright. (assuming this topic is for the Halsey campaign).- 13 replies

Click that and it will set the standard. Do note you need to do this on every ship with premium consumables.

On a more helpful note, there is a small arrow beside the dubloon cost. Click that and select credits instead, no more dubloons accidently spent.

The pinnacle of balance - Novorossiysk (a.k.a. Giulio Cesare)
ollonborre replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
Well, kind of. The smoke and heal ensures it has insane staying power, and the shortfused AP with good reload is insanely strong at tier 7. Also with the torps you can't effectively push it out of position if it wants to stay in it. But the Belfast still surpasses it IMO due to the insane toolbox it has access too. I would still place the Fiji on the fence of the OP side. My reasoning with the whole broken thing about the Belfast is that it just has so much stuff piled into its kit and no clear disadvantage. So in hindsight calling the GC broken is not entirely correct then. I would settle with very OP. -

ollonborre replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
The Fiji has been arguably the most powerful tier 7 silver cruiser since it got released. The Belfast just takes that further and to add insult to injury it is a premium making it a prime argument in the whole pay to win debate. -

ollonborre replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
The Belfast is broken in the sense that no specific thing about is incredible, but the fact that it has just a massive toolbox that enables it to just adapt to any situation. Also the base stats of the ships are average to above average across the board for tier 7 cruisers. -

ollonborre replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
Yeah that part always annoy me about these sort of topics. I like my Belfast, it is hilarious. But it is also incredibly broken and I don't deny that in the slightest. Same thing in this topic, "it's not totally OP because...". No. The GC is broken for a tier 5 ship. Denying it instead of admitting it just looks silly. -
Alright did some testing. Retrained a captain for free on the La Gallisionere, and played 1 game in it: I then used the 200k credit option and this is what happend: You do seem to keep most of the XP you earn before the retraining. So IMO just paying that 200k credits from the get go will be just as fast.

First of I would not bother with the range upgrade (unless you already have it). Secondly yes it is a pretty powerful midrange bow tanker. However you are also somewhat sneaky and above all, fast. Playing it like a roaming battlecruiser and only going bow in when you also have an escape plan (nearby island cover, outside detection if you hold your fire) or is fully certain you can kill whatever is in front of you. Always going bow on will result in a great many deaths. Adopting a more mobile playstyle will yield better results.

While the net credit would be nice to see when I have had some more time to think, I don't see that much use for everyone with customisable tabs. The current detailed tabs provide all the info you need (and to be fair only 2 tabs are full of detailed info). Now if you could customise so you had all the info you wanted after a game on just one tab, would that not make it extremely cluttered and make the detailed statistics tab more useful?

Feedback concerning BB rng spread in the current "HE matters" meta
ollonborre replied to Bratwurst_Bob's topic in General Discussion
No but a fire that ignites a ammunition storage very much is. And even if a fire did not directly sink one of your almighty BB's, plenty of other ships did burn down so it is still a strawman argument that fires were not dangerous. -

I like how in that very article if you read a bit several battleships got severly damaged or even sunk as a direct result of fires. -

You know what is also a waste? Firing HE at an angled BB when 9/10 times there is atleast one target showing some form of broadside within your range. And all you have to do is wait 5 extra seconds and look around.
