You should not look at the concealment purely for close range purposes. Disengaging and repositioning are vastly easier with good concealment. Also getting undetected between salvoes means you will be able to pick a target of your choosing most of the time.

What about a T9 Ranked below rank 10?
ollonborre replied to Wilkinson87's topic in General Discussion
Tier 6 ranked would also be my prefered tier. No massive premium spam, and almost all of the silver ships are fully viable. Tier 5 could be fun, but with the large amount of powercreep and really strong reward/premium ships (Kamikaze-Fujin clones, Cesare, Gremlin, Oktoberuskajaaxaxa to name some) I still se it as a very premium dominated tier. Still a bit better than smoke-radar-hydro-clubbed by Saipans hell that is ranked tier 7. -
Will you guys get Soviet Tier IX cruiser "Kronshtadt" for 750,000 Free XP after WoWs update 0.7.5 ?
ollonborre replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I know the Kronstadt has crap stealth and all, but 18.2 km range on a cruiser is bad now? It has similar range to the tier 10 cruisers and outranges every tier 9 cruiser (range mod not included). -
Sort of old news, and worth pointing out this is also not just restricted to the Boise. Buying the Nuevo also enables the Boise mission.

HELP: This game is dying for me.
ollonborre replied to Thanks_for_all_the_fish's topic in General Discussion
I know all this is subjective, but it really is not fun. Standard coop bots are beyond retarded and winning over them pose no challenge, skill or tactics. No matter what ship they are in they will just rush you guns blazing and all you have to do is wait for them to come to you and you just kill them. Operations are fun, with bots that atleast focus fire. You people that like coop, go ahead. But if you actually want to learn the game and get rewards that are not crap stick to PvP. -
HELP: This game is dying for me.
ollonborre replied to Thanks_for_all_the_fish's topic in General Discussion
Not 300-400 games in one ship (hell even I don't have that). More like 300-400 games in a specific ship class of different lines is how I would interpret it. Putting 300 games in for example BB's and cruisers respectively give you a pretty clear idea on how the classes work. -
Obviously you can't carry every match, no one can. But improving on a personal level relieves a lot of stress, you can carry some games and contribute long enough so someone else can pull in the win and getting better. Or maybe it's just me, but I get very little satisfaction blaming someone else each and every time something goes wrong. Being selfcritical is much more fun.

That is kill/death ratio, not average kills. Your average kills is 1.44, still pretty good. But it is not always kills and damage that decide a game. Killing a out of position cruiser or BB will yield nice personal rewards but if it means other ships can get into a better position or yourself in a bad one, they can still be detrimental to the overall effort. So kills and damage should be applied to ships that are in a good position (example, a BB that can cover 2 caps can be really strong, so pushing it away will help the team) or ships that directly threaten a cap (mainly DD's). So don't just chase ships to gain kills and damage. Focus on map control and objectives and you will not only win more but get the damage and kills that matter. Offcourse try capping and spotting aswell really don't hurt.

repulsed hits - not visible // and ships reflects on water.

Offcourse he does not. Read up on his previous posting history and you will see he is not really capable of understanding anything or a dedicated troll. -
No that is not what he said. IMO the soviet gunboats are good up until the split at tier 8 (well, I did not really like the Minsk. Still a nice gunboat though). The rest range from alright to great but they do require some care in order to play effectively. And despite the nerfs the Kebab is still a pest and annoying to deal with. As for the hybrid line, never played it but I don't see that much atraction from it. If you want a good hybrid the Gearing, Yueyang and Z-52 have not gone anywhere and the latter 2 will also munch up and push out any other DD trying to get into a cap.

April fools event is most likely. I would be pretty interested in a operation where the mission is to sink the Habakkuk or something along those lines. That seems like the second most likely option of ever seeing this thing ingame. And with the Ratte inspired Leviathan thing in WoT last year(?) it might not be an implausible thing to see something similar to the Habakkuk.

First impressions Yamato legendary upgrade?
ollonborre replied to anonym_RGvUdEcxWWvD's topic in Battleships
Your observations seem a bit off. True that the Conqueror burns other BB's without much difficulties and it is less cumbersome than the Yamato. But a Yamato is still a powerhouse if positioned correctly. And if the Yamato overpens cruisers lots of times, well every other BB does the same. It is all about aiming. As for the Kurfurst, it has the most well rounded armor profile at tier 10, it is most resistant to HE due to 50 mm plating almost everywhere, it has built in IFHE secondaries, the guns are derpy at range but great up close and it has Hydro. Only reason the Kurfurst is not a top pick (but still picked mind you) is because the Montana is a bit less bulky and posses better guns with the accuracy module. But in randoms Kurfurst is most certianly not a bad ship. -
Yes realised I forgot to write that, thanks.

Unless your battleship is british, AP is the goto ammunition. The raw AP damage and burst potential far outweighs HE damage and RNG based fires (note that sometimes HE is a good option, versus heavily angled battleships). But in general AP is always the better option. Learning citadel placement on enemy ships and learning about overmatch will yield great results with AP. Overmatch is basically your caliber in mm/14.3=amount of armor you will just straight up punch through and deal penetration damage and/or citadel damage.

I have never met someone that can give a clear reasonable argument on why their Yamato needs an extra 3k HP. It is so useless for basically any non DD ship (yes I know there are some arguments on the Mino and I believe it was the Zao, but that is mainly just a meh try it out and still not recomended) that I am suprised it isn't just flat out limited to DD's only. Which kind of makes it a "broken" skill since it effectively only affect one specific ship class. A bit like the CV skills. On topic though core skills should be like already stated PT-AR-SI-CE. MFAA is generally better than AFT since you get so much AA range anyways on tier 9-10 with just the AA module and you got no defensive AA so damage is more important than range. But if you don't want to spec for AA (it is recomended though since even without a CV you can still deny vision by shooting down spotterplanes) JOA, VIG, IFA and possibly even the torp reload skill are good to alright options. EM on tier 9-10 is not that worth it tbh since the turrets turn pretty fast already.

Domination ocean is pretty nice actually, and I do think epicenter would work really well on ocean. Standard battle ocean is pretty boring though, but then again standard battle in general is pretty boring.
-
Because the poster above your first post revived it after it has been completely untouched since june 3 last year. But since it is revived, I don't think the Zao needs any real change at the moment. The torps were a nice addition but other than that I think it is overall fine.

RN DDs and their significance for DDs in general
ollonborre replied to Prospect_b's topic in General Discussion
The Seattle did 1 damage to it, the rest was the Alsace. -
Fuso with CE goes from "spotted from spawn to spawn" to "spotted when you are in a slightly better position". It might not feel that good but the difference is actually pretty big, and while you are not going to disengage much it is still better. The rest of the IJN BB's are not at the top for stealth but still not bad. FP and CE are the goto skills for any BB (apart from secondary builds), as you get stealth to disengage and getting into position and fire resistance for tanking. So for the Yamato CE and FP are almost mandatory since no other build improves the playstyle of the Yamato like tankiness and stealth.

Something not in Randoms nor Operations
ollonborre replied to Fairywitch's topic in General Discussion
99% of the time cheating accusations gets thrown around is because the recipient lacks proper knowledge about what just happend. The remaining 1% are desyncs, lag, UI not responding and just horrible coding from WG's part. And if there is something that classifies as a proper cheat it is mostly an external mod that alters the UI. -
If you are undetected and get close to a smokescreen and you are within the smoked up ships smoke detection range that ship will get spotted but you will remain unspotted. And if you then open fire you can both see each other for the 20 sec detection penalty, until one decides to stop shooting or you get within the 2 km auto detect range.

This pretty much. Back in the beta days the height thing made more sense and with the old skill tree it was much harder to justify CE on every ship as there were other more powerful skills for fewer points. Nowadays it is as you say, concealment is just another balancing factor and have little to do with ship sizes. Which if you ask me should have been the deciding factor from the beginning and not this whole semirealistic approach that is bound to backfire.
-
Which is weird because apart from a Jingles video from the open beta no one brings up or even cares about the whole karma thing since it is just a useless stat. Or maybe I don't watch the "correct" streams or videos where the system is talked about.
-
I do sort of agree with the overall topic, BB concealment is pretty bonkers if you spec into it (as most do). And it is not just on the higher tiers, certian low tier BB's can also get insane concealment like the König that falls pretty close to the Omaha just to name one example.
