Gneisenau vs Bismarck, too similar yet too different, I'm slightly confused.
ollonborre replied to Praevasc's topic in General Discussion
The german BB line is the most HE resiliant line in the game. So while they still die under concentrated fire they will by far outlive any other same tier BB due to 50 mm plating almost everywhere. The 128 also get the 1/4 rule. That is why IFHE GK can work and IFHE Gneisenau is pretty overkill. And in the next patch the 105 mm guns on the FDG will also get the 1/4 caliber treatment. -

BFT is arguably a better choice. 10% more shells in the air will ensure more direct damage to your targets and you don't have to rely on fires for damage. And with BFT your actual fire chance is similar if not higher thanks to the increased RoF. And you get better AA to boot. So if you should pick a 3 point skill that is not SI BFT would definetely be my pick. -

Care to explain what your suggestion is? And exactly what in my post you are disagreeing with? -
Remove startrek Smoke binocular

Well, it isn't. But in this arcade game that is a reality and a game mechanic that can be used as a teamplay function or a balancing factor (but some ships break that). -

One last try. - This is an arcade game, game balance for the most part trumps realism. - Firing from inside a smoke screen requires that someone else is spotting for you. Very few ships can provide their own spotting inside smoke. - If you change it so you can't see outside from smoke then you need to rebalance the entire smoke mechanic. Having a 2 minute cloud that blocks all vision would be incredibly unfun. -

What? EDIT: Aaaah nvm I just realised it is this guy https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/106121-improve-203-mm-guns-reload-cruisers/?tab=comments#comment-2642395 Move along nothing to see here. -
Even on live? Or do we have any info on that so far?
-
Test servers have universally sucked d1ck for years, it started with WoT and it hit WoWs just as fast. No one "tests" anything, it is just an even more unbalanced chaotic mess than the live servers. The ST program or testing things on live while not perfect at times atleast give you a more representative look of what things might be.
-
Are you saying that there are lots of carriers per team and not enough of the other classes? That is most likely a test server thing, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Pretty sure there will be a hardcap (or should be) once the update hits the live servers.

Oh well that I knew, I just assumed it was obvious that it was a german DD build I linked due to the topic of the thread. Never mind I can't read. But yes that is the build I run on the Z-52, and it is mainly aimed at torping and cap contesting. I also run the hydro mod for extented duration. This is purely personal preference but I found it to be pretty fun to have nearly 3 minutes of hydro. The downside is that it becomes slightly harder to sync your hydro to your smoke cooldown but there are ways to work around that.

Experienced beginner skipping a ship
ollonborre replied to Voncarsteine's topic in Newcomers' Section
I struggled with the Mahan aswell (even though I started to like it towards the end) and it mainly comes down to awkward characteristics. Concealment is pretty bad and it has a pretty low HP pool, not a brilliant combo. The ships with worse concealment tends to have higher HP or speed (Maas and Minsk) so getting stuck with the worst of two worlds is not great. Gun power is not bad though, but again, not brilliant either. Essentially the same firepower as the Farragut but the Farragut is a tier lower. And when compared to the Sims the Sims boast a longer range and insanely fast turrets so gun handling is just better. Torps are again not that special. 8 torps per side and an extra 4 with good enough range but low damage and slow speed. And not that good reload either. I have had more sucess with the Sims sea mine torps, but since those torps reload so fast, have the same range and really low detection you can actually use them better. So yeah, the Mahan is not brilliant. You can play it and get alright results in it but compared to the Farragut it only really gives you a stealth torp option. The Benson is great however, since it takes the problems of the Mahan and fixes them. Better stealth, torps and gun handling for a much more enjoyable package. -
Might be unsure of what you mean. If you get jumped by another DD then using Hydro and smoking up will straight up counter almost any other DD that tries to get near you.
-
Yes I do mean the detection range is high-ish, slight brain error on my part.

http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1100000000000011011001000000000119 This is my current build and it will stay this way, for random battles I have found this one to be effective enough. Since I tend to only stay around the caps anyways so you can often be pretty sure on where the enemy DD are. And with the hydro-smoke combo you tend to be pretty hard to deal with even if you get jumped.

The Amagi is a roaming midrange support platform as said above. It has great damage output with a really heavy broadside and is suprisingly accurate. Stealth is on the higher side for tier 8 (not bad mind you) and torpedo defense is fantastic. It is just a really solid BB, as long as you angle like wilkatis says and reposition to the get the best angle on your enemies and you are pretty much golden. Alongside the NC it is still a top tier BB.
-
In some dimension or plain of existence this might be a form of common sense. Just not in this realm. Anyways not going to derail more, both ships are good choices and it basically comes down to if you have a german or US captain to train. Buuuut I would still advice to get some more practice in before buying yourself up the tiers.
-
Ah yes, it is a very fun and engaging experience to get molested by the tier 9-10 alpha predators of this game when you have: - No clue what overmatch is. - No real idea how the damage mechanics or detection ranges work. - Having a captain that lacks captain skills or is suboptimal for that type of ship. - Probably lack map awarness. - Have not learned to angle or dodge properly. And probably a bunch of other things. We can't stop people from spending their own money, and that is fine. But saying that they can learn the game by completely bypassing the learning tiers or flavours of that ship line is complete BS.
-
Since the dispersion question have been answered I will mostly focus on the detection part. Posting your captain build and ship build with modules will allow us to give more constructive advice, but since you feel thay you get detected I assume you have not optimised the ship for stealth. So some screenshots of your builds would be nice. Secondly I would advice to not rush up the tiers. The game does not necesserily get better at tier 10, especially if you are still struggling at tier 6+. Take it slow, drop back a few tiers, get a better grasp of your income and improve your aiming and map awarness.

remove this kind of rewards from super conttainers no1 needs them...
ollonborre replied to julmatar's topic in General Discussion
Sitting at around ~100 mil at any given time, but I don't say no to more credits since it allows me to rebuy old ships and experiment with modules, so those camos are always welcome. And even so playing tier 10 with full premium consumables and flags aimed at captain XP and free XP the ocean soul camo gets "wasted" without earning so much of those hated credits the OP doesn't like. -

ollonborre replied to julmatar's topic in General Discussion
More credits is never a bad thing really, and if nothing else 100% XP for elite captain XP is far from useless. You did get something useful by sheer luck, be happy about it and feel lucky you did not get 100 ramming flags. -
What the [edited]is this topic even about anymore?
-
That is sort of standard DD gameplay at high tiers. If the radars are unaccounted for always assume they are going to ruin your day in particular. So you either play passive, try to spot and wait until the radar ships are found. Or you try to bait the radar by going into a cap or position where you are hard to hit/got an escape route and then go back once radar is gone.

It is very strong and has pretty bullshitty guns. And as far as I know every CC I watched said it was too much and very powerful. But WG released it anyways so there is that.
