Yeah pretty much. Or a shell completely misses you and no hit is recorded but your rudder breaks anyways
-
If shells are still in flight holding on to that damage control until you are either unspotted or know for certain the last volley has landed on you, then use your damage control. If timed correctly you will get away without much trouble. Or as posters above states, pick Last Stand if it happens extremely frequently.

If the Yoshino gets released with 30 mm deck then its an instabuy pretty much. Sad part then is that the Azuma becomes completely obselete.

The radar changes and what hasnt changed.
ollonborre replied to Vinyl_ScratchPlays's topic in General Discussion
Honestly the radar changes in range and the 5 sec delay actually made DD gameplay a bit more comfortable since now all ranges are standardized pretty much so it is a lot easier to remember. And with the delay you know that you can atleast power up and start dodging just 1 ship from the get go instead of 7. The underlying issue here is not radar in itself but a problem that has been present ever since radar got introduced, and that is radar distribution between teams, and now in the CV heavy meta where people pick AA heavy ships which also happens to be radar cruisers. -

Got Rental Ships but mismatched Captains
ollonborre replied to Sinker_Simon's question in Q&A Section
I have never recieved a 10 point commander from the rental ships. As Astolfo says you probably recieved them from when events expired or special captains. -
I honestly don't see why the Neustra is so much more expensive than the Black. Sure zombie heal in all its glory but radar+smoke on a Fletcher hull makes the Black the no-brainer buy if the cost stay as it is.

Cheap or expensive camo ? Consumables ?
ollonborre replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
I use whatever resource increasing camo I have on ships I play on a regular basis and 22.5k or premium camos (from missions) on everything else. As for consumables, premium all the way. The cost can be a lot on some ships but I rarely find that a problem, since the reduced cooldown and extra charge is worth its value in gold 99% of the time. -
While I don't have the full story, ramming a higher HP ship if you are at a clear disadvantage and are about to die anyways going for the last resort ram is not a terrible idea.. And if you do get into a position to allow yourself to be rammed you have misplayed or outplayed, whichever comes first. So basically if you allow yourself to get rammed when you have the advantage, that is a missplay. If you ram someone when at a disadvantage that could work in your favour but if the odds are that you could survive the encounter then ramming is not a good idea.

Ever occured this might be a forum account and that his main account is either on another server or he might not want to use his main on the forum (strange I know but some people do this for some reason, usually bans). On topic, the biggest problem I see with the Azuma is the squishyness, and I don't think firepower can even that out. If you look at 2 other IJN ships that are also notoriously squishy, Mogami and Ibuki, they do compensate by having much better concealment and being a bit smaller so they can pick and choose their engagements easier. They are also more manuverable so they can avoid the damage in the first place, and to top it off they don't exactly lack firepower either and have torpedoes. Basically we get an Ibuki but without many of the redeeming qualities the Ibuki has. And while it does not seem to perform badly, keep in mind that even with this small sample size it is not anything super impressive, which is sad. For me it feels much less interesting than for example the Alaska which is great fun. Maybe giving the Azuma some torps or reinforcing the bow and stern citadel bulkheads will give it some flavour that could interest more players.

If you did not come to the forums to learn or care about other peoples oppinion, then why stay? Just went and then ignore the thread, simple. As for the other comments, well not all ships are for the average player as you say but that is sort of the point. Everyone will not excell in every ship, and if you struggle in a particular ship or class then you either learn or drop it entirely. Saying that a ship is underperforming for some people but excelling for others and then asking to fix it sort of misses that point. Clearly other players enjoy and can perform great in the Kaga, but you don't. So if those players can work around the squishyness and make the plane reserves last then maybe the problem lies in certain parts of the playerbase. It's like me and my Neptune, I know it is a good ship, I know a lot of people enjoy it and make it work, but I just can't and I hate it, so I either don't bother or take it out on very rare occasions.

I don't really know why the Alaska sometimes get a bad rep? Because it is not OP? Anyways the Alaska offers great protection, solid American AA, 10 km radar, a decent enough 12.2 km concealment and pretty nice guns. The AP power is really nice thanks to the improved pen angles (even if the pen can sometimes fail you), but the HE is kind of terrible and should only really be used vs DD's. Other than that I find it a solid ship and it prints money as a cherry on top.

I don't disagree, I was just curious to the reasoning as to why it was pointless, because in my opinion Yamamoto is not pointless on any IJN tier 10 apart from the Shima and Haku. He excels more in other ships, that I agree on, but he can work quite well on the Zao aswell.

Stat shamers and toxic behaviour. Why is this allowed ?
ollonborre replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
While I do find the OP's determination admirable, this is never going anywhere, as usual. It is getting tiring really to see these threads pop up every week, and all you are getting are people who are sick of the whole subject like myself and who just pop in to drop a vote in the most biased response due to piss-taking. Just let it die, like the previous threads. -
I honestly don't see that much of an issue with rental ships, especially since they are always on the opposing team handing out free steel EDIT: Oh they allow rentals in ranked now? First of my reading is crap apparently. Secondly, oh no...
-
How did you come to that conclusion? Can't speak for the Haku but on the Zao PM and EM are good skills so you can take full benefit from them. Add to this the nuclear HE and good stealth first blooding a DD is not that uncommon. And if you do get a Kraken it does not really matter which ship you have Yamamoto on, each one benefit greatly.

But planes will still regenerate at some point, so technically you do have "infinite planes" by definition. Same thing about ammo and torps. Now if you have them on demand and can always use them is a different matter entirely.

Even without IFHE the Alsace is hilarious with a secondary build, those 100 mm are great firestarters. And I tend to find that the Alsace is a more comfortable and easy to handle platform for secondaries (Repu is too big and squishy for my liking in terms of a secondary build), and with the reload mod you still spit out plenty of shells while manuvering to get into a secondary position. Offtopic rambling over.

Might be in the minority here, but the Richeliue is a solid BB IMO. The common mistake however is to go "all guns in the front, better bowtank everytime". The only times you should bowtank is when you are at a safe distance to disengage or only face a limited amount of enemies. I tend to just use her speed to reposition quicker or get out from a stationary position. It just works for me if I'm honest, and apart from the sqishyness I can't seem to find the hate about it honestly. Guns work, AA is alright, it handles no real worse than the others. Keeper for me.

That could certainly be a valid option. In the current CV meta I sometimes wish I had more staying power since lately I have been focused a lot. So in that sense I would drop SE for SI and keep BFT. BFT is still a really nice bang for your buck skill and the extra heal can do more work than the extra flat HP. The thing is that you need to manage your heal effectively. 1 charge (on the Jutland atleast) heals for a maximum of 2580 HP, but SE provides a flat 3150 HP. So in theory you get more effective HP from the heals, but in reality that can be very situational if you get the maximum out of your heal. So basically if you only receive light damage all game then the heal will be more beneficial. But if you eat AP pens or the accidental torp then SE will do more for you and the 2 heals as an added bonus.

I think the default one is credits if I'm not mistaken, and that is the most useless of the lot apart from try your luck if you want reliable stuff.

Space battles I guess?

It's a 2 year old thread, lots have changed and the Yorck is not nearly the same ship as before.

Friedrich der Große 183 secondary hits 0 damage. Not acceptable
ollonborre replied to Puffin_'s topic in General Discussion
It had it since quite a while back. And the GK does not have 105 mm secondaries
