    Except he is not bad precisely for the reasons I have said. The talents are not mega powerful true and can be looked into further, but they are somewhat easy to proc in a normal game meaning you can use him often with little to no effort. Compare the talents to Halsey and Yamamoto and compare how often you can expect to use their talents and suddenly Günther became a bit more useful.

    True, but it can find use of all skills is my point, even if I know it is iffy. I will say this though, I for one don't mind a special commander with less powerful talents but they can be achieved easier. Sure Halsey and Yamamoto have more powerful talents, but they require achievments that you just don't get every single game. Günthers will probably proc whatever talent depending on the ship you put him in more games than not, meaning the actual use of Günther will be more valuable than Yamamoto or Halsey (or even the Russian one I forgot his name). Rework the ribbon talent and I'm up for some Günther funtime.

    He seems perfectly tailored to those 3 people that play Graf Zeppelin, as it can use all skills apart from main battery hits. The spotting ribbon one IMO is the one that requires most work. As soon as a CV is in the game all DD's can kiss their ribbons goodbye, and even if no CV is present, the way you normally spot in a DD is continous. So basically you get your ribbons, get the small heal (if it's early game it is not going to do much obviously) and then stick around and spot. You will get lots of spotting damage but since they are continously spotted you won't get ribbons and thus not proc the talent. So a change to that would be nice, make the talent proc from spotting damage or something arbitrary like fires set on targets you spot or something. Anything that can be done somewhat consistently is what I'm getting at.

    Nice necro. That would be Admiral Yamamoto with the Kraken talent that cuts the reload by a large margain.

    The rentals are there so smaller/ less experienced clans can get enough players and play clan wars and get some rewards out of it. Don't really have a problem with it tbh as long as it is kept within clan wars (and not Ranked).

    Flags and resources (although more in the long term) are by far the most consistently useful drops from daily containers. Money is useless, the camos are not terrible but not great either and try your luck is only useful for people who already have a ton of stuff. Flags are useful in every game regardless what tier or game mode you play, and are always a resource you need if you play somewhat regularly. So no there is absolutely no problem with flags beeing popped in to fill the containers (it is a stupid lottery after all). What is a problem is if you still choose money containers after 6k battles. The credits you gain 2-3 times a day from them can easily be earned from just a few regular games thus rendering them useless even for a new player.

    Yes I know, which means on paper the Darings actual fire chance is around 4% when fighting tier 10 ships. Unless something has changed.

    Or in other words already stated by a poster above, potential fires per minute. In terms of fires per minute Daring is the best, however Daring requires IFHE so that drops slightly, and when the Klebér pops its reload booster I'm pretty sure it is a strong contender just because of that high firechance. Then again the port stats don't take into account the built in fire resist each ship has so what do I know.

    I did not like the Gneis because of the guns, but the platform is excellent with solid armor, speed, torps, AA and secondaries. So you can always throw it into close range where despite the wonky dispersion it will murder virtually any other tier 7 BB. Again I did not like it, but I can't call it bad when you look at the opposition.

    Been playing with 2 builds, the most recent one is this one since it also works fairly well in clan wars: IFHE is nice versus cruisers, but honestly you don't exactly need it that much and can skip it for something else. That is one thing I do like with the Smolensk, you actually have several viable build options. As for modules, I run reload mod for randoms where AFT is more than enough to cover the range need and range mod in clan wars because of flexibility.

    I always wondered how Detonations are missed. You get a big symbol in the "medal" feed with a ship exploding, the icon in the kill feed is an explosion, in the chat it says "xxx player detonation" and after the game you get flags for it. So how do people still miss that?

    Faced a Venetia yesterday in CW, and it was less than impressive. It's just too big and bulky without the survivability in a focus fire enviroment, not to mention SAP is too inflexible against bow on targets. For randoms it might work but not in CW.

    Buff Rewards Ships Economic Potential.

    The economic potential of the reward ships (tier 10) is basically just the same as a normal tier 10 with perma cammo but the added benefit of beeing able to put any captain you want into it. My reward ships gain around the same rewards as my other tier 10 with perma cammo and thus I see no need to buff the economy of reward ships.

    Having a container you can only buy with another god damn limited currency which is the only way to get the collection items, that on top of that can be duplictates because why the hell not is taking the piss to a completely new level.

    With the recent ish citadel raise the Brits are equaly prone or slightly easier (when talking about the Hakury) to citadel as the Americans in my own expereince. On the tier 9-10 you can often get atleast 1 citadel in a run where as on a US it can at times just result in pens.

    How to enjoy low tiers is basically to not play them, free XP past them or play the Yubari. I found that little ship can still hurt planes and a clubber looking for easy seals often find themselves wasting planes on me.
  23. IFHE is extremely useful on 4 DD's at tier 9-10 in particular, those beeing the Kitakaze, Harugumo, Daring and Jutland. Kita and Haru gain the benefit of penetrating 32 mm armour which boost the damage output greatly. They will perform well without but IFHE gives them that much more firepower. Jutland and Daring is a bit more complicated. On them IFHE is virtually mandatory since without it you can't pen DD hulls and BB superstructures, as the HE has such low base penetration. The unpopularity of IFHE on tier 9-10 DD's apart from the ones I mentioned is because they do perfectly fine without it and the benefit from IFHE is marginal at best and you have better use for 4 points elsewhere.

    Having read through a bit of the thread I don't have much to add apart from this: where does this notion of the Smolensk having "great" or even "outstanding" AA come from?. When you play the Smolensk you will struggle against tier 8 planes and when you are in a CV the Smolensk is easy picking. The Smolensk does not have good AA in terms of values, the AA strenght comes mainly from having smoke so you can't be targeted.
