Did try to visit the USS Iwo Jima when she visited here a couple of years back, but a combination of a mile long que and bad weather defeated me. Did have a pretty good view of both her and the HMS Prince of Wales (which was not open to the public) when they were visiting here thanks to living high up and facing towards the port at least.

Which one, the pre WW2 one or the post WW2 one? ;)

Well technically the bridge would be on top of the conning tower/sail so my choice of terms is accurate enough. :D

Well the sail and the conning tower are the same thing on most modern subs, so it's not like we're going to see finless subs (again, as several early ones didn't have them) any time soon me thinks.

The difference is in that last word "afloat", Victory's permanently docked in a drydock while the Conny is still in the water.

Remember reading somewhere that, as well as the obvious advantage of a raised position to conn the sub from, the conning tower actually helps the sub stay on even keel when submerged..

One of very few left. As I said, sadly she just happened to be closed when I was visiting. Plus I had to watch the clock as this was my way to spend a considerable chunk of the six hours I had to spare in between flights. Between that and staying at Logan, I think most people would agree I made the right choice there.

If you ever find yourself in Boston with a few hours to spare, and it's not too late in the day I highly reccomend visiting her. Fixed that for you.

Been on board both HMS Belfast and USS Constitution. Well worth the visit, both of them. Pretty nice museum on the docks beside the Conny too as I recall. And as a extra bonus USS Cassin Young is berthed right next to the Constitution (was closed for renovations or I'd have checked her out too)

The spotter part is the vital part. And the one thing you can never rely on a random team mate to do for you.

Got to give them credit where it is due, those are some mighty impressive special effects, especially when you consider it's all old school practical effects and this is the 1960's we are talking about here.

You can pre plan just about everything except your own team mates.

One of the biggest issues for the Chumphon is that she took a rather..substancial nerf to her reload speed as compred with the other two. Atlanta reloads every 4,8 seconds, Flint in 5,1, while poor Chumphon reloads in 6,5. That is a rather substancial difference, I am sure you will agree, for a ship that's basically all about the dakka.

As a aside it should be noted that while not exactly tanky (is compared with the tech tree ones though) the Irian is actually pretty good. Can't really say the same for the Wukong though sadly..

Oh she does plunging fire just fine (ie while shooting herself) it's handling plunging fire she has issues with. Also, while that 50mm of extra armor compared with the Sneptune doesn't sound like a lot, it actually makes her a lot harder to citadel with low caliber guns.

Albemarle is a tanking monster compared with these ships TBH, and not just because of the superheal.

And make sure your WASD is on point as that armor isn't going to stop anything, not even the DD firing back at you.

Personally of those two I have to give the nod to the Blys. Just find her, and by a healthy margin at that, the more fun of those two.

Honestly while it had it's downs, today turned out just fine in the end.
