Pretty much no point if you have those two. And even less if you have a Mutsu.
-
You will notice I said nothing about skill, all I was talking about was personal preference. Not exactly the same thing, I am sure you will agree.
-
Simple, someone goofed and reprinted the same image for both classes. They're not quite THAT much alike in rl.
-
Nor was I saying that they should. The closest thing you can do as a compromise is watch as many reviews of said ship and make up your own mind from what you're seeing. And even then you might not be accurate. And some of us have extras since last xmas
-
There is only one way to know if you will like a ship or not, and that is to try it out for yourself.
-
You sir started out with a mistaken assumption. They are in fact not the same class. The Gearing is a Gearing class destroyer, the Yueyang is a Allen M. Sumner class. That is all.
-
@Procrastes Not a huge problem right until you run into a tier 4 cv that sees you as a massive bull's eye. Which a zero aa ship pretty much is.

Will BBs still be viable after 6.14 is out?
lafeel replied to Technocrat_Prime's topic in General Discussion
I seriously doubt that the introduction of the Pan-Asian destroyers will seriously affect the number of bb players in the game. Although you could make a case for the fact that they should. And this is coming from someone who mostly identifies as a bb and cruiser driver. -
Should Wargaming change the name of Tier X BB "France" to a different one?
lafeel replied to ImperialAdmiral's topic in General Discussion
I see absolutely no reason to change it. France is a perfectly legitimate (and been used as such before) French battleship name, so let her keep that name. -
French T10 Battleship finally revealed :)

Or pretty much anything with "Baguette" in the title. :P -

Very interesting indeed. And a very appropriate name too. -
Which is more than you can say for the Ashitaka from what I have seen. Plus as I said, even if she may or may not be inferior to the Mutsu, she is definetly inferior to the Kii.

Fuso showing her teeth, even when bottom tier. -
Mutsu is pretty good. Certainly having 410mm guns down at tier 6 has some definitive advantages. Think the main problem the Ashitaka has is that she's not really that superior to the Mutsu, and the Kii just blows her out of the water.

Wrong Pallada. That's the second one. Look up the previous one.
-
Still a happier story than what happened to the third sister, the Pallada.
-
The more I see of her the more strongly she feels like a pass.

First ever drive, I'll take it. -
@mariouus I think we may have uncovered the problem with McLaughlin's work right there. You see, he heavily references Vinagradov's work to the point of coming off as considering it gospel. I guess it should have raised a bigger red flag for me than it did when the WoWS model for the Imperator Nicky does not agree with the one he referred to as the final design. According to that book I've mentioned before, and presumably mr Vinagradov, the raised forecastle we see in game was a earlier, and ultimately rejected, design route to fix the Imperitza Maria class' known (and well documented) nose heavyness issue.

Nothing I'd hang my hat on as far as I know.

[Request]Tier VII HIJMS Haruna premium BB
lafeel replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
Not tier 7 material tbh. -
Edit: well there's no denying that the Svietlana was a very..ambitious design for her day as well. A 29,5 knot cruiser was unheard of in 1914 (when she was designed)
-
There is no denying that. That still does not make her a made up or a fake design. I am sure the designers over at the Russo-Baltic Shipbuilding and Mechanical Society of Reval (Tallin, Estonia) would not be amused by us calling their design fake 102 years after they worked on it. As a side note, this is the one and only design I have seen from this firm, and you can guess why.
-
Actually it's not made up at all. This monstrosity is very much a real design, albeit a one that had almost no chance of being completed as designed. And before you accuse me of talking out of my @ss here, my source is Russian and Soviet Battleships By Stephen Mclaughlin, pretty much THE English source on this sort of thing, and it includes the pictures just as you see there. Finally, your point on the Admiralty boilers is simply mistaken, they were used in several designs pre war, including, notably, the Sevastopol (usually referred to as the Gangut) class battleships. Call her ambitious, sure. Call her impossible to turn from a paper design into a working battleship, and I'd agree. But call her fake and we have a problem. Also the Russians were in fact not satisfied with the armour protection on their dreadnoughts. Gunnery tests on the stricken battleship Chesna in 1913 showed that the armour was in fact very vulnerable to ap shells. Which is why you saw a steady increase in the armor figures involved in every design that came after the Sevastopol class.

Fuso showing why I love her, even in a tier 8 game.
