    Aand here comes the lottery....

...I miss the 90s, when the only foreshadowing of gaming being turned into a barely-disguised casino was TCGs. The only reason I haven't left in disgust is because, so far, WG have refrained from making the game P2W (unlike another company I can think of right now).

    Coupons!!!

I got Tulsa, even though I already had Salem. I talked myself into it saying Tulsa has non-gimped radar and better concealment, can also mount hydro instead of DFAA, and I can take it to the current Ranked. No regerts yet, I just hope they don't add something more interesting for coal before the next coupon.

When's Toulon going to be for doubloons minus the gambling?

It's not really the majority afaik, just USA and German CAs and a few exceptions. Granted, these are popular.

    How to play Z-31?

This line is just painful to play in Domination and any situation where you have to deal with enemy DDs. It's not just Z-31. Ideally you want to be behind an actual DD when you go to cap, or have radar or plane coverage. Edit: You should have definitely taken Concealment Expert. Not having it basically relegates you to playing like a cruiser, even though you take up a precious DD slot.

sub players, what is your experience like?

I've been playing Cachalot lately, so I can comment on that. My stats with it probably suck, because it's also the one I started out with. - Less stealthy and slower than most DDs at the tier when surfaced. Much stealthier at periscope depth, but then DDs can get dangerously close before being spotted. Capping alone is highly inadvisable for this reason, though you can be dangerous if you have a friendly DD or CV spotting for you. The German subs are even better at denying caps (that don't have cover) when supported. - Armament is ezmode, doing damage on lone BBs with impunity is no problem unless they go behind a rock or are faster than my surfaced sub and run away. Pings are easy to hit with, especially at the limited range. - Torps home in like a guided missile on subs (and DDs?), but cruisers and BBs can sometimes dodge at the last second. I guess the homing turns off a while before impact? - Airstrike ASW feels pretty weak. 15s DMC, though I know Germans get 5s. A lot of ship-dropped depth charges are pure murder, but it varies greatly unlike the pretty standardized airstrikes. - The hydrophone does not work like a hydro search, more like a better Radio Location (except vs. subs, which it can spot if they're underwater). Not sure why it has to have a 5m prep time. - Going underwater makes you blind unless someone is spotting for you. Might as well be an island-humping cruiser, except with torps, no solid cover, and eventually no cover when you have to surface. - Modules are made of papier-mache, one depth charge can knock everything out. - Little interaction with CVs, unless they can be bothered to fly over. They usually don't unless there's nothing they can strike. The way I play Cachalot is basically cautious and low-impact. I don't do the "pop up and nuke" tactic unless I have no choice (though I have killed DDs this way that were trying to hunt me down). Unlike Salmon, the ship is slower than the average cruiser and only has the low-damage homing torps. It's also definitely a pig by comparison in terms of turning. I dunno, it's a different and reasonably entertaining playstyle to me that brings another dimension to the game, literally. Is it fun for the BBs and cruisers that get pinged and torped? Probably not. But nor is it fun to be under HE-rain, or harassed by a Shima with no one to spot it for you. It's another class that can strike most things with impunity and further solidifies the primacy of DDs to game impact.

    Returning Captain n00b questions

Oh, and I think you can get extra steel if you complete the dockyard (with doubloons) then complete missions that reward dockyard stages. So basically an exchange of doubloons for steel, not sure about the ratio though.

Special commanders don't work differently in terms of training, they just sometimes have cosmetic options, voice-overs and/or improved skills and activated skills. No idea, but for a lot of the old collections, you can go to the Armory and buy their containers with coal. You can also get steel from one of the final stages of each Dockyard (which cost doubloons, there are not enough missions you can do), and from "snowflake" events that happen 2-3 times a year, where you play each of your ships once for coal, steel or containers, depending on its tier. Other than that, just from some types of containers I think, where it seems to be exceedingly rare. Nowadays, containers you can buy display the odds of each group of items.

    Druid worth 56.000 research points

Do not buy unless you want it for co-op (where it's frustrating because bots just charge in bow-first), or if you're already comfortable playing large, slow DDs like Elbing line. Having to cap in this thing in Domination or Ranked is about as much fun as a trip to the dentist. And while it can do a lot of damage to DDs, a good DD won't let itself be spotted by a Druid, and if it is, it'll just angle or go bow-on and then your DPM goes down the toilet. Oh, the joy of playing a "DD hunter" that can't even catch DDs, outspot them or consistently damage them. At least Elbing has no pretense of being good vs. DDs, play that instead if you want a chungus of a destroyer. Or get Groningen if you want the gun-only smoke + hydro combo.

    Very disappointed in Leone

If Leone had faster torp reload (at least make it proportional to other launchers at the tier), an ASW airstrike and an extra smoke, it'd be decent.

How do I use the destructors?

Their main role is to just spot the enemy, especially cruisers for the BBs to shoot at. When one side has a DD and the other doesn't, that's a huge advantage to the one that does, because the cruisers can't move forward safely to spot/shoot the BBs or cap. Nor can they hunt down the remaining DD unless they have radar or a carrier on their team. So the team without a DD becomes defensive and paralyzed. This is less of an issue if carriers are present though, since they can also spot with their planes. Submarines can now also act as spotters, though they're slower than DDs.

    Research Bureau

It does, the wiki page confirms it. If you earn any RP, the RB should be permanently unlocked.
  15. Fenyang. And I'm done buying premium ships because there's nothing appealing left right now.

You need 5 tech tree ships, so yeah, since GK is now a premium, you need one more line to t10.

You could have spent community tokens instead, if you have some. And yeah, I had to buy 3 boxes for community tokens.

    cruiser lines

Brit CA (t6+) might be the most forgiving thanks to built-in heals (and somewhat better armor than the CL line). But gunnery is harder than some other lines. Then again, the HE is good and HE is a lower-skill ammo choice as you don't have to memorize armor schemes to know where to shoot. Just shoot at the center of mass, or where there's no fire yet. French are probably the most brainless and simple but you better git gud at wasdhax, because there is no superheal, smoke or good armor scheme to help you survive.
  19. Which is also the logical reaction when you have a Shima ahead of you, with no one who can spot or radar it. What counterplay is there, try to chase it down while getting spotted and torped the whole time?

A detailed look at ships. Neptune

I was expecting a pic of a sinking wreck after it took twice its HP in damage from one BB salvo.

    Research Bureau picks

The best it gets is 6.6km, which is one of the worst unfortunately. You're not getting the drop on almost any DD in open-water. Sure it's good at damaging DDs (that aren't bow-in or heavily angled), but skilled DD players will not allow that duel to happen in the first place.

    Remove Submarines

Subs can be a lot of fun and a good bit of variety from surface ships, but I have to say: get rid of the ping mechanic, no one likes it. Balance them around unguided torps.

    Forever 'logging In'.

I've been having this in the latest version. If get DCed during a battle (which honestly should not happen in 5 seconds, it should take longer) and I try to login, it just gets stuck. I can see the game is using bandwidth, but it doesn't get past "logging in". Generally if I get DCed in port, I can log back in fine.

I got Druid and it's both cool and painful to play. The latter mainly because it takes up a DD slot and you're expected to go cap vs. DDs you can't outspot or outrun, plus of course CVs and radar ships. Playing DD in such modes is stressful enough, playing a cruiser-like DD even moreso. Same for the heavy German DDs, which I love, but I really don't enjoy playing a cruiser forced into a role it's not suited for. Gibraltar looks like the most bland and boring British cruiser possible (and really ugly to boot), but carried entirely by its AP.
