  1. Ouch. I put 3 torps into an ally and killed it. Only got 5 pink matches and 80FXP lost. But it was the first time in hundreds of matches so maybe there was some leniency because of that, or it's randomized.

    ?% chance for getting super-container

Best thing I've gotten since the introduction of the mods is 50 Oceal Souls. That was a good prize. At least I was lucky enough to get 2 of one of the two halfway useful mods - the hydro one. The only other mod I'd use is the engine boost one as the other mods in that slot are pointless. The AA one? Radar? Freaking spotting plane? Total junk. Rather get 250x Juliet Whiskey than that rubbish. As for the SC chance, on average for me it's been about 35-40 TYL for one SC.

  4. The German torps are more ''accurate'' - faster and stealthier, so more likely to be undodgeable. You just don't get as many, and the damage is a bit lower. My rundown probably looks like most others. US - very short-range guns but scary to anything up close, especially enemy DDs. No stealth torping until t7. Ability to mount Def AA from t5, at the expense of a gun except at t9-10, as well as sacrificing Engine Boost. Slowest line overall. Long-lasting smoke screens. Great maneuverability. IJN - Mostly torpboats, but Akizuki is all guns and Akatsuki is a good all-rounder. Guns have good range and hit pretty hard but the reloads are brutally long. Best stealth overall, great maneuverability, low speed, low HP (but they are slim, so full pens from big guns may not happen as much as on some other DDs) USSR - Gunboats (except Derpski, which is a weird suicide torpboat kind of deal) until t8, where the alternate branch is all-rounders that can take Def AA at the expense of Engine Boost. High speed, low maneuverability, (mostly) bad stealth, good HP, excellent guns. Cannot stealth torp until t8. at which point their torps are decent. KM - From t6 you get hybrid ships with decent torps and powerful brawling ability. The high HP helps them slug it out with DDs, *but* that is as long as you're not eating AP penetrations, because these fat DDs will take lots of pens that would be overpens to slimmer DDs. You get hydro, which is great for cap contesting. Speed is decent, maneuverability is bad and stealth is mediocre. The AP ammo is great but the range of the guns is pretty low, so penning things with AP is pretty situational. You can mount 150mm at t6 and 8, but I wouldn't stop at those tiers because of the bad MM.

    Torpedo acceleration captain skill.

I use it on anything that has 10km range. Launching from max range increases the chance of missing, so you wanna get as close as possible. If there's something with radar, go elsewhere or help gun it down. I would not take it on Sims because it doesn't have 10km and the ship is pretty detectable for a DD, and with no access to the concealment mod. I'm pretty sure the reason why they gave the torps 9.2km range rather than 10 is exactly so that TA isn't viable. The stealth launch area would be tiny - 0.5km.

A recent review of captain skills

Is the catapult skill decent as a poor man's Vigilance for BBs? Do 2 spotting aircraft have a better chance of spotting torps or not?

    Wyoming vs New York

Wyoming is more fun thanks to the huge number of guns and gets better MM. NY feels like such a lame duck with fail armor, mediocre AA, awful turret traverse, non-existent secondaries. You don't yet get the all-or-nothing protection but you do still suffer from being full-penned a lot. The overall armor is weak, the armor belt is thin (SC's is thicker, and that's t3) and there's even a bit of exposed citadel on the waterline. Boring and bad ship with no standout features, at least nothing positive. Feels like a failed prototype of what the later superdreads are supposed to be. Some t5 -> t6 are a marginal upgrade, but NM feels way better in almost every way. Especially the armor.

CoE event nearing its end, some thoughts.

Wait, there are awards for the winning team in this openly rigged competition? Really? Give everyone the flag and achievement, it's not like anyone contributed to red winning. Not when WG blocked registration at will.

CoE event nearing its end, some thoughts.

I'm thankful for the free stuff but this was a fail event and this should have been obvious from the planning phase. If they wanted to make it more engaging, they should have had more engaging goals rather than the things you already do passively (EXP, winning battles etc.) The registration rules were undeniably ill-conceived - the game should assign teams to balance player numbers. It's fine to have grind-based objectives so everyone can participate, but they should be more specific - hit with X number of torpedoes, do X amount of damage to higher-tier enemies etc. Things a player can aim for, without screwing up the way matches are played out (as it would be if, e.g. you rewarded players for killing members of the opposite team). Pretty much anything would be less boring than this event.

    T-22 seeking advice

Brotip for KM DDs: you can skip the GFCS module. especially on the 105mms the shell arcs are so high that it's simply not worth it shooting at that range, especially given the torpboat nature of those ships and the way bloom now works. Arguably the same can be said of 128mm - the travel time gets quite long at your maximum range, and by that range you are able to stealth and torp. You won't be missing much if you skip the GFCS, maybe on occasion there will be a BB at the edge of your range that you can put a few shells on, but then again on occasion the extra bloom can get you killed. By all means get it for 150mm, those fly nice even near maximum range.

    tier 8 jap dd

I've stopped at the Akatsuki. It's faster, has spammy torps, decent guns for the tier, and if specced can have basically as much AA power as Bayern, at least enough to punish the CV for keeping you spotted. Not that you're useless when spotted, unlike some other torpboats. You still have dem guns. It's a very nice ship and in a good spot for MM, Kagero seems like a downgrade in various ways.

    Server is borked again

When I logged in just now, I saw the chat server was down, then I got DCed when loading a match, now I can't get in at all, with an unknown error. Get that cable-chewing cat out of there, please.

Ognevoi - too weak for T8?

On second inspection, they have 1% higher fire chance, 7% less dispersion and 30m/s faster shells than my Anshan's guns. The differences from new Gnevny are even slighter, only the muzzle velocity is better. They look the same as the Khaba, but Groz has a faster reload. I wouldn't call them ''far better'' than the others, it's pretty marginal. The big showcase of t8 in this branch is the new torps, yet a salvo a minute is kind of a snoozefest. At least Benson is a superb knife fighter, Kagero gets TRB and Z-23 gets hard-hitting guns and yes, they are a substantial upgrade over the t6. Having basically the same gun damage output as t6 is... a bit underwhelming. Yeah the turrets are nice but that's something more useful on a run-and-gunner. Another thing worth mentioning is that imo, the new French cruisers make this branch's gimmick even more suspect. A Henri can exceed, what, 42 knots with engine boost on? (edit: holy crap it's 43.5!) What do you think will happen to an Ognevoi limited to 37kts without engine boost? It can get run down mercilessly. I've always said a Def AA gimmick is not a good idea with so few CVs around, this just makes it even less appealing. I hope at least they'll let these ships mount both consumables because Poseidon knows, Def AA rarely comes in handy.

Ognevoi - too weak for T8?

Yeah, I feel it's missing something. You get the same guns at t6 and the torps, well... 2 minute reloads, really? Not a good combination with their low speed and abundance of radar and hydro in the high tiers. The HP pool is nothing special, concealment is almost German... it's pretty underwhelming. Not horrible, just a bland hybrid DD. Oh you get Def AA but given the scarcity of CVs I'd rather just keep the engine boost. In fact, I wish you could keep the initial torp launchers, at least it'd be less boring to play.

The amount of destroyers in each batlle

As a torpboat main, I support this. No one likes facing DDs, not even other DDs. If you're a torpboat you're constantly in fear of being run down by some Kiev. If you're a gunboat the first few minutes of Domination can be miserable. a 2 DD limit per side would be welcome.

    Wargaming, why no tutorials?

I'm not sure where the problem is, that Minotaur surely learnt not to broadside BBs anymore. Even wild animals learn to avoid doing something that consistently hurts. I really don't know what tutorial WG could make that could teach advanced tactics to people that willingly broadside with high-tier CLs. Even if you teach tactics in an interactive tutorial, it all flies out the window as soon as players are exposed to the ever-changing meta. Now, there are some mechanics that players learn by asking and research, which could be explained in a tutorial. Things like AP vs. HE, what causes overpens, how AA works, angling, bloom, things like that that are not immediately apparent. This would help the type of player that wants to learn but kiddies and super-casuals would simply not go through them. Thing is, the average player does eventually learn. They ask in chat, they read online sources or they just learn by doing. There's only so many people you can help with a tutorial that wouldn't learn it from elsewhere.

    Overpenetrations

Short and sweet - is it possible to overpen a citadel? Is this a viable tanking style when playing no-armor French CLs? Any tips to make this work?
