On the bright side, if you happily let fires burn so you can get Dreadnought, floodings should be less of an issue. I'll get Vigilance so I can at least turn 2-hit salvos into 1-hit, and then the TA mod at t8 because BB concealment is kind of an oxymoron with planes and DDs around.

Can someone get me up to speed, does Nelson get an improved-duration fighter or not? And how much is this repair nerf I read about?

Have a few doubloons to spare - which T 3 - T 7 ship to get?
MoveZig replied to Zen71_sniper's topic in General Discussion
Out of those ships you listed, I have Krym. Now what can I say about it, well, it's not that great. The impression I get is that the rate of fire is gimped compared to what it should be and as a result, it's not really better at spamming than a ship like Koenigsberg, which will also have fewer penetration issues with its HE and AP. Best way to see if you'll like it: play Svietlana and imagine a slightly souped-up version of it which will frequently have to fight t6 and t7. Essentially, only get it if you really hate turrets and waiting for them to align, afaik no other ship past t4 has exclusively casemate-mounted guns. If you want a USSR trainer, I'm guessing Murmansk is better. I can't recommend anything at t5 anyway, it has probably the worst MM in the game and lacks the important 4th upgrade slot which becomes available at t6. -
That's not how that works, each hit has a percentage to set you on fire, and there are some modifiers that can affect it but the only ship-specific resistances are based on tiers. Simply put, Kawachi isn't more vulnerable to fire than any t3 DD, cruiser or anything else. They all get a 15% resistance for being t3 (it's 5% per tier). Except of course that it gets hit more than most others at t3 so there are more chances to get immolated.

I don't have too much experience with BBs but i take lots and lots of full pens on Colorado. It's not hard to see why, the all-or-nothing armor scheme leaves huge parts of the ship unarmored, moreso than Nagato and way moreso than Gneiss. I'm not sure how Nelson could be worse in that regard. The bow armor apparently sucks but despite the turret arrangement, no one is forcing you to go bow-on with it, you can always angle.

Anshan is the only t6 I've bought and it was the right choice. You can't beat 2x FXP, not without, I believe, at least t9 permacamo which is more expensive. And it's a fine DD too, one of my best performers. Honestly it's quite amazing to find such a large and important bonus on the cheapest t6. Then again, I favor FXP more than any other resource in the game barring doubloons. -
How will this thing not completely outclass Colorado? - Superheal that's about 3x as good as Colorado's, and even a larger HP pool. - More guns of the same caliber with the same RoF. - Far beter HE, about the same AP. Are you telling me that better AA and (presumably) slightly better turning is supposed to make up for all those advantages? How is this balanced and not a massive example of powercreep, I'd love to hear.

I hope the existing PA prems get the DW torps too. It may or may not have been pand-ering to the Chinese market, but for the record, Warcraft had martial arts pandas (in WC3) before Kung Fu Panda came out.

You know what, I enjoy some lower tiers like Kawachi, so it would be nice to have the option of permacamos for them. Not sure why they only start at t6. -
Ishizuchi can be fun to play, but with its lack of torp protection, plane and AA it kinda feels like playing t3. Just feels more barebones than Myogi. And honestly, in a tier where 2x CVs happens quite often, not having any AA on a massively long hull feels like asking for a double crossdrop. But yeah, it's great for firespamming and most of my Arsonists are from there.

Cruisers are hardmode. any other type is easier. The reason why you take massive damage is your citadel gets hit with AP (or HE is the armor is particularly worthless like on Kirov). So what do you do? Well, cruisers are supposed to be pros at dodging and US cruisers in particular turn well. But it requires situational awareness (and the Priority Target skill can help a lot), which is the most important skill to master in the game. It also helps to know what you can bounce with your armor and at what angles. If you look at the armor view, you'll see US cruisers have high citadels, which is both good and bad since it helps you bounce AP when angled, but if it does go through, then it really hurts. Other cruisers have low citadels which are harder to hit but don't help you to avoid taking regular penetrations. Now, for an AA cruiser, Cleveland has lots of AA and the Defensive AA consumable, but otoh, the guns have short effective range because of how high they shoot. So it's more of a brawler than a fleet support ship. If you want a long-range cruiser that can stick with the BBs and fight at the same range while supporting them with AA or hydro, Yorck would be a good choice.

The only change I've noticed is that the game starts windowed - despite having set it to fullscreen. Easily fixed with alt+enter. But yeah, technical updates like these always make me worried they'll break the game in some way. I really don't care about all the graphics snobs saying the game is 8 years behind the times, the game works and that's all that matters.

So when are you guys going to remove Tears of the Desert with Epicenter?
MoveZig replied to IsamuKondera's topic in Maps
I don't even mind epicenter on the other maps since they give you some bit of cover to get behind as a capper, but on the high tiers with all the radar and the long-range torps and the Zaos and Kutuzovs and Belfasts and 11km secondaries and 6-squad carriers? My heart sinks when I'm the DD that has to cap that thing in the open, especially as a t7. Get rid of it. -
Deepwater torps, so battleships can have more fun because if you want to contest a cap, you can't hurt them
MoveZig replied to mtm78's topic in General Discussion
Wait, you'll have to choose between one and the other per match? That's balls. Of course you'd choose the more versatile ones that get used in 4/5 games, where you have to cap and fight other destroyers. No, you should be able to switch. Make it like ammo if need be, require a reload when you switch. That might actually get me to use Expert Loader. Also, remember, some of the most popular BBs have hydro. You'll always, *always* have German BBs with hydro in the high tiers. So that lessens the versatility of these torps even more, unless it just doesn't work on them (and it will, since we can't take BB crutches away from them, now can we?)- 330 replies

What's better for tanking damage? On Colorado, specifically.
-
For Colo I was thinking of this build: T1: PM T2: EM T3: SI, BFT, BoS, Vig T4: FP I don't put too much stock into CE on BBs. Too situational, easily beaten by a plane or DD. And I'd rather take BFT over AFT. I dunno, I think it's important to be able to reach out to torp bombers lining up a drop, but that may be achievable with the AA mod. OTOH it would be nice to be able to mount the secondary mod instead. Sadly, I can't squeeze AFT into this build with the other stuff I'd like.

0.6.9 Update 0.6.9 Feedback - Performance - DX11 Introduction
MoveZig replied to Kandly's topic in Archive
Haven't noticed any negative impact so far, thankfully. In general, I'd rather the game not be messed with from a technical standpoint - it works fine for me as it is, unresponsive in some places but perfectly playable. -
I'm thankful that we're getting more previously webstore-exclusive premiums ingame. But please, bring Perth, Duca and others so we can buy them with doubloons. Or allow us to use doubloons on the webstore.

just when we though things where getting better
MoveZig replied to Reisen__'s topic in General Discussion
I mean, that's not a wrong assumption to make. Awful turret traverse is a serious liability at shorter ranges, especially for something that can't turn well. -
Either remove them or make them a core game mechanic that triggers every time under specific conditions, and is indicated in the armor model. The current state of the mechanic makes it obtuse, unpredictable and aggravating when it happens. Or you can pay up for a signal that prevents it. Definitely one of the worst-implemented mechanics I've seen in a pvp game, seemingly random instadeaths. I think I'd be more okay with it if we had something like War Thunder, which shows you what happens when you hit a target. Then it would at least be better understood and thus more tolerable.

Got into t8 for the first time recently with Ognevoi. Twas okay and I expected worse. It's true there are a lot more things that have radar, but otoh CVs are rare and when you do get them, it can't be 2x CVs per team. Now basically every DD has long-range torps, even the USSR, so Vigilance is pretty important to have if not hydro. Maybe I just suck but if I get 5 torp hits with a dedicated torpboat like Ognevoi, it's been a decent match. At this point, players know to wasdhax, have high-level captains with Vigilance, and the most popular BBs have hydro, so it's hard times for torpboats. I would go with the low-mid tiers instead for that. Although high is still playable, it's overall harder to get hits.

Shiratsuyu or any IJN DD that has chosen TRB over smoke, when there is a competent enemy CV that keeps you spotted. Watcha gonna do? You can't torp, your speed probably sucks, your guns are lacklustre and so is your HP pool. Your biggest strength - stealth - is gone because your AA is too crap to threaten planes. GG. I'm sure it's a viable choice if there are no CVs but you can't guarantee that, now can you?
-
I'm going through Honorable Service using DDs, I'm on mission 3 and farming the ''disable engine modules'' task pretty easily. In the next mission, the obvious ones are ''damage German ships'' and ''disable steering gears''. Is there a reliable way to do that? What's the best method for that task?

Killer Whale revisited - Anthony/Cyclone plague
MoveZig replied to Max_Kammerer's topic in General Discussion
So are we keeping these indefinitely or will they be removed after Aug. 10? I hope we keep them, but with tweaked stats to make them competitive.
