Mind that it only comes with +50% EXP camo, unlike any other t9-10 permacamo. It has been possible to earn a better one during Go Navy, but only that one time so far.

Battleships are now made of firewood and a joke to play.
MoveZig replied to LandlubberWookie_IRL's topic in General Discussion
If fire is your problem, get Okt Rev. Or Nelson. But I bet you then start complaining about how AP is OP. -
Best area-denial is an island-camping CA with radar or spotting support. No one wants to be subjected to a rain of fire before they get a chance to shoot anything. Not BBs, not DDs, not any class. And if it's RN, you can expect a barrage of torps as soon as you do get close enough to detach the camper from their waifu/husbando.

Has anyone else noticed lots of dd "players" lately that just sail along the map borders ?
MoveZig replied to AlwaysBadLuckWithTeams's topic in General Discussion
I could probably understand the apprehension in a Dom game with small caps next to CA camping spots, but Desert Epicenter gives you islands to hug inside the inner circle. In fact, that's what I did in that match and it was fairly uneventful until late in the match. Between stealthy DD-killers and the CV rework with large air-reloading bomber squads, I don't foresee a bright future for TRB DDs. Me, I've gone with PA for the torpboat playstyle instead of IJN. -

Can't say I did, but I did see a Shima on Desert Epicenter deliberately avoiding the caps in favor of camping the little rocks in the southeast. Huh. -
Did you get any British DD-missions from the containers?
MoveZig replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I've collected every container this week and then exchanged the sovs for more containers. Still nada. I guess I won't be doing those extra missions then. -

MoveZig replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
None so far, even though I see them in nearly every damn match. They can't be that rare. At this rate, I won't have a DD to complete the special tasks with and I'm going to miss out this week despite doing everything possible short of spending money. I do not like this event and its RNG rewards. Reminds me of all the damn French containers I farmed with no BB to show for it. -
Saw a Monaghan with 73. As a Mahan with Def AA but no buffs, I only manage about 10...
-
On the one hand, I've little interest in a UKzuki with no AA and better turning... on the other hand, 2 euromonies? How can I say no to that for a t8? Assuming I get all the guineas. It would be nice to allow buying guineas with doubloons though.

When you're so afraid of your own bombers, you start painting your flag on your turrets.

iirc WoWP makes a bit more effort to provide general information on the strengths & weaknesses of a vehicle. That would be helpful to new players for sure, especially since you can't see a ship's consumables until you have it. Yeah you can find that information on the wiki but it would be nice to have a condensed newb-friendly version straight from the devs, right inside the game. Heck, the ships in the Arsenal already have this, why not tech-tree ships?

V-25/Longjiang come close.

Better, sure. But some t9s are almost like a sidegrade of the t8, .e.g. Seattle. And the tier is known for some real lemons. In this case though, I do feel it's a bit of a slap in the face to have to use Benson's Hull C minus the Def AA option. Not that you'd even want it in this CV-free meta. You wouldn't run Hull C on Benson but you get no choice in Hsien. It used to be Benson didn't get its full rudder shift except on Hull C, now it's just pointless.
-
I think the only weak ones in this line are t5 and t8. Jianwei is mediocre at almost everything with insulting torps, while BenYang, well, like the US variant it's just straight-up worse than its successor on top of missing out on the t9 mod. Worse both in gunnery (if you use the Hull C, which is mandatory in this line and you don't even get Def AA to show for it), stealth, AA and especially in torps. At least FletchMu can claim to be a better torpboat than GearYang.

This is both a rant and a question. No, it's not about Yamato being UP, well kinda. But every time I read someone spent a large sum of FXP to skip Izumo just to get to Yamato, I ask myself: ''why?'' What is it about this ship in particular that makes it so magnetic to some players? Is it the big guns, is that all? Is that all it takes to inspire hundreds of hours of grinding? Because otherwise, I just don't see anything about it at all. The AA sucks, the speed sucks, the armor sucks, it can get citted by cruisers, the historical one had no major contribution and sank helplessly in a suicide mission. You know, in War Thunder there is a certain sinking feeling when you unlock B-17 and find out the ''Flying Fortress'' hype was pretty much wartime propaganda and the thing falls prey to anything that has a cannon like any other bomber. I imagine Yamato is the same but the time investment here is so much more. This is not me whining about the Yamato, which I don't have. Just trying to understand why the popularity. Historically and ingame, it's an overhyped dud.

"REAL" Birthday Special: September 14–28
MoveZig replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
I may not have a T10 but I still got several supercontainers' worth of special signals, so kudos. -
What sucks about this op is it throws everything at you all at once at the halfway point. Other ops are much more linear and simple. Aegis: Take out vanguard -> take out reinforcements -> go north and take out the CVs -> go east and draw fire away from convoy TUF: -> Different targets depending on spawn -> go to repair base -> a;g(hv%rtr3th4jb@

"April WhiteMouse" posted her early "Alaska" thoughts...
MoveZig replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I honestly don't see how Kron is ''brainless'' while Alaska will be this unicum-friendly ship that rewards expert aim. It's not like Kron has the magic AP and Alaska doesn't, it's the opposite. Kron's 305mm does very poorly vs. angled cruisers ('cept UK), let alone BBs. Sounds like Alaska will have an easier time with those, and it's a passive bonus. Which likely means less ammo-switching for Alaska. Load AP at match start. Angled or unangled cruiser? Stick to AP. Unangled BB? AP but aim for upper plate. Angled BB? Switch to HE. Or is there more to it? -
It's rubbish. I expected a bad experience and I'm getting it. A mish-mash of mediocre and bad features with not really anything to compensate. All it has is alpha damage (compared to other DDs, for what it's worth) and fire chance. But it's on 8-second reloads so whatever. It's this line's pre-buff Emerald. And you know what? They got me. I bought a day of premium just to get through it faster. Well, at least I can power through FU Son in Aegis because I really don't wanna take that turret traverse into pvp without EM.
-
I voted Dunk, but Spee should be on the list as well.
-
It's kinda the opposite of what I wanted, i.e. more tactics/consumables and a better UI rather than more mouse aim twitch nonsense. And I'm concerned about how this will impact stealth-dependent DDs that have neither Def AA nor smoke. Actually, even if they have smoke, large squads of air-reloading bombers could be supremely problematic and unfun for them. Can you imagine that in a radar PA or TRB Kagero? Nothing should counter another playstyle that hard. Yeah, it's bad enough for them now, but imagine if you're getting dropped twice a minute and you know there's no fighter cover on the way.

I have 750k free xp, dont know what to do with it
MoveZig replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
Alaska doesn't look anything like any USN cruiser. The shell arcs, caliber and dimensions and concealment are more USSR-like than anything. Oh, but you do get the special USA AP rules. As a Kron owner, I find it hard to justify the (potential) FXP cost + captain respec. Maybe if CVs make a big comeback I'll want the extra AA but as far as I can tell the two share the same niche with Kron being tougher and Alaska having better AP and AA. Hardly worth hundreds of hours of farming. -
Topic. They used to be under ''Media'', now I can't find it.

These are certainly not in order of OPness, just my personal preferences. Nelson. I shouldn't like this BB. It has no utility, has a very static playstyle and just relies on good guns and a superheal. But damn does it look awesome and rewards positioning and situational awareness. I call it the tank destroyer of the sea. Specifically like those huge sluggish Brit ones that are best wedged between two rocks. Myogi. Yeah, bad reputation I know. But it's a genuinely really fast BC for its tier, significantly faster than its BB counterparts, something that very few can claim at higher tiers. Plus it has some utility (Spotter) at a tier where the dreads are just one-dimensional floating bricks with big guns. So why not Kongo? Well, the combination of uptiering and lack of Prop Mod 2 take away a lot of its speed edge in my eyes. T-22. The German that wanted to be Japanese. It's cugly and it brings V-170s mortars into t7 battles. But the torps are good, the AA will occasionally shoot stuff down that's keeping you permaspotted (looking at you, Jianwei) and using the AP is a challenge of its own that can pay off, given that it's German. You know the Germans always make good stuff. Yorck. I have it specced for ''fleet support''. Jutland's Vigilance spots torps and the Def AA savages planes with Manual Fire Control. Not a ship you'd expect to be running heavy AA, but that's the idea. The shells are interesting, best HE in the line but floaty AP. But you know what that means - island-cheesing potential. Don't really know of other ships where you can choose between ''sniper'' and ''mortar'' modes. Eh, I may be exaggerating. It's about a 4-second difference at max range. Still, pretty cool. The turret traverse is almost at German-BB-level but hey, that's what the decent torps are for. Okhotnik. It's not just a name, it really makes you feel like a lethal predator with its downright excessive close-range torp battery and massive alpha damage on the guns along with great stealth. Planes kind of ruin it though, and honestly I'd rather be playing Farragut or Monaghan if I had it because they can deal with that better. It's going to suffer badly under the upcoming CV system.

Because DDs sitting inside smoke being caught between radar and bomber spam is real fun, right? Especially for a line that's already struggling. Also, no consumable should be rendered completely useless by the presence of a specific type of ship.
