  1. Permacamos can be worth it if you no-life co-op hard on the same ship frequently (say, for research points), especially if you don't have premium. Of course, if you spend dubloons on them, then you're spending an unfarmable premium resource to facilitate farming of non-premium resources (XP, FXP, RP), but if you really want something from RB and you treat co-op as a sweatshop, then yeah, might be worth the dubs in the long term.
  2. I ran the numbers, and found that with the missions, daily rewards and 3000 community tokens, you still need to buy one of those bundles to have enough tokens for the Harbin camo. Can't login to verify, but if correct, it's arguably worth it - 1K dubs and 3K community tokens instead of 3K dubs for a t8 permacamo.

Do these lines get any better?

Z-31 felt a bit weak to me but the playstyle basically doesn't change from t7 to t10. So whether you like or dislike the t7, the next tiers should be a similar experience, with the exception you get Def AA. The Dutch cruisers have their big line break at t8. You actually get good armor for a cruiser, repair party, big guns with pretty shockingly bad accuracy (Haarlem felt especially bad) and the airstrike becomes somewhat less useless. I did not enjoy the mid-tiers much, they felt like bland CLs with a bad gimmick, but it's worth playing to t8 to try that one.
  4. It's too bad, the mode was the easiest XP ever. I'm assuming not nearly enough players were playing T9-10? I mean, why would they? A couple remarks: - T8, 9 and 10 ships already meet each other all the time. And I can't get excited for t7 ships fighting t10 either. The mode should have more of a tier discrepancy to be interesting. t5-6 vs. t9-10? Or better yet, a mode where we get to actually use our low-tiers. Make it inaccessible to newbies if you're concerned about seal-clubbing. - Some of us are still doing the Dockyard missions, and them not being completable in AB is another reason not to play it.

    Roadmap for 2022

Those Italian DDs are going to be utterly obnoxious to fight, aren't they? I'll be honest, the only things I'm excited for are Rogue Wave and the 2D battle thing.

Help me choose a line for me

DDs Soviets, either branch but especially the Khaba one. German Elbing branch. The most cruiser-like branch of DDs, but with concealment closer to a DD and best of all, no citadel. The downside to DDs is you're expected to go to a cap in Domination, or at least around it to scout. No hanging back and shooting from the second line. But the ones I mentioned generally want to keep more of a distance and shoot instead of rushing. Cruisers USSR, either line Dutch The issue with cruisers is they do indeed often get blown out of the water by BB AP shells, or heavy cruisers. In general, they're the hardest ship type to play. Some at least have dependable armor that shouldn't generally get citadelled as long as you angle. Japanese and USA are some of the softer ones, so no wonder you got frustrated. Dutch high-tiers and USSR heavy cruisers will at least hold up better under fire. British heavies get a superheal starting with Albemarle, as well as reasonable cruiser armor. BBs Japanese - the archetypal sniping BB line USA Vermont Branch - you don't even have the speed to take point. Probably the most leisurely line to play unless you're getting rushed.

What Makes A Good Cruiser Good?

There's a huge difference between a cruiser that gets citted by BBs basically at random no matter the angling (e.g. UK CL, USSR & German mid-tier CL) and one that can generally depend on its armor belt given sufficient angling, not too different from a BB (e.g. high-tier Dutch). When playing any of the former, your best armor really is made of rock. Also, you're playing the game on hardmode. Having radar is a huge deal. On Domination especially, you will be expected to sit behind a rock near a cap and provide that radar coverage. Boring? Yes. Unrewarding? Yes, unless a DD actually wanders into it and you get spotting damage (don't peek behind the rock though, you'll be lit up like a Christmas tree, and rightly so). Game-changing? Oh yes. Mind your HE-pen. Typically, high-tier CLs (150mm, with exceptions) need IFHE to be able to pen BB plating (and some other things). I don't like the skill, but it's kind-of expected to have it on lines like Worcester.

Hey! WG! BREAKING: Tiers 1-9 exist!

I especially hate how t1-4 is just treated as a kiddie pool that you grow past within a few hours and never want to revisit. They'll probably do nuclear subs and helicopter carriers before they consider working on the low tiers.
  9. Yes, I'd like the top-down view, if only because it really helps with shooting things that are behind islands. Most cruiser lines do away with spotter at high tiers, others very annoyingly have them in the same slot as some other, clearly more useful consumable (US being the worst offender, but also France).
  10. The sexual and race jokes were overdone and unnecessary, but the rest is funny as hell. I especially liked the "what t7 and 8 have to experience" part. I mean, AB is not a bad concept, but then why limit it to ships that largely already encounter each other within their normal tier spread? It could have been an opportunity for old-timers to dust off those low-tier ships, but nah.

    Which line to focus?

I would not recommend cruisers in general. Ships have something called a "citadel", which basically if hit, you take full damage from the shell (typically you take only a fraction of that damage). Destroyers and subs have no citadel. Battleships have citadels that, in most cases, will only get penetrated if you broadside. Cruisers usually have citadels that get penned at all sorts of weird and exotic angles even at long ranges. Essentially, what this means is if you play these ships, you gotta know your concealment, you have to angle at the right times, you should be familiar with the maps so that you can make good use of cover. All this because one good salvo from a BB can send you back to port, and depending on the ship, even angling might not save you. There are exceptions, like the supercruisers and the Dutch high-tier cruisers, which are more consistent and resilient.

    What keeps me playing WoWS?

It's one of 2 real-time pvp games that I know I can realistically play on my satellite internet and still do okay despite the handicap. And War Thunder is a sloppy mess.

    Your Brand New Ship

Bearn - disappointed. Not because of performance, but because the strengths/gimmicks they gave it with the fighters just don't work, plus there's a drawback compared to other CVs, which they don't mention and you wouldn't think to check before buying. Made a thread about it. But long story short, do not buy if you read the wiki and have delusions of playing air-superiority and scouting and spearheading a "support CV" playstyle, like I've seen thrown around here and there. Air-superiority still is not really a (rewarding) playstyle even with its buffed fighters (mainly because of the recall mechanic), and fighter spotting is intentionally gimped on this ship (without having the courtesy to let you know this before you buy). It's a CV with a gimmick that's poorly thought-out, or at least experimental if you want to be optimistic about it.

    Bearn imminent?

SLM here claims that these fighters have a max 2km spotting range, unlike "other fighters". I'm not familiar enough with CV play to know if that's correct. If so and Bearn's fighters specifically have gimped sight, I'd feel cheated because it's not indicated anywhere. Not on the store page and not on the consumable's description. The wiki actually touts the spotting capabilities of the fighters. Can anyone weigh in on this? Edit: Okay, Yuzorah mentions it too and now I understand why he chose Interceptor. But I shouldn't have to rely on third-party sites to get this information.

    CV questions

I've hardly played CVs since the rework years ago, but with Bearn coming out as sort of a support-focused CV, I've been enticed back. I have some questions about CV skills: - The skills that don't specify aircraft type such as Aircraft Armor, do they apply to patrol and CAP fighters too or only the strike aircraft? - What does "arrival time" mean on the Enhanced Reactions skill? Is it the time between using the Patrol Fighter consumable and them actually getting there? Or is the cooldown for the consumable?

    Bearn imminent?

Just bought it, the mission lasts 30 days starting when you buy it. Can't comment on usefulness as it's the first CV I've really played since the rework did away with my AS Bogue. I'll tell you one thing, it's not a co-op farmer, but that might be the case for other CVs too. So what's this talk about the fighters not spotting? I thought their HP would make them good for that.

    Update 0.10.11: New Year

I see, it's possible I had the game running or the client needs a restart before it detects the download or something. Oh well, I'll be more careful next time, thanks all.

    Update 0.10.11: New Year

I've since clicked on "update" in the hopes that it was just a small hotfix, but these were my settings when I launched the client an hour ago, I haven't changed them. I did check "download updates in advance" last night in the hopes I could get it done then, but when nothing came up, I unchecked it again.

Druid or Vampire 2 (or possibly Gibraltar)

Here's what I want to know, can Druid's shells overmatch DD bows or does it become the most useless ship in the game if the enemy DD players have the sense to go bow-on?

    Update 0.10.11: New Year

The client requires me to download the update before launching the game, even though I had "download updates in advance" disabled. Not cool, as my data plan means I now have to wait until the late hours to patch the game and be able to play. Any way around this?

    Guide: British Cruisers

Anyone got Gibraltar yet? It looks like a pain to play, with everything about it inviting BBAP, and that 15s smoke... doesn't seem very reassuring. At least other RN glass cannons get a superheal. I think I'd rather get Druid, at least that isn't a floating devstrike.

    Dutch Cruisers - Durability

T6 and 7 felt to me like bland mid-tier CLs with, yes, a restrictive range on their airstrike (plus it's hard to hit anything with that one tiny box). The t6 iirc is the only one that can't use its airstrike from outside detection range. They're not very interesting to play and the airstrike gimmick feels particularly weak there, but the jump from t7 to t8 is huge. You go from one of the worst armor schemes on a cruiser to one of the best while also staying very stealthy. Haarlem's guns are rubbish though, the dispersion is... not cruiser dispersion. JDW is an improvement in that area. Overall, however they tried to market these ships, they're not DPM monsters at range, you're supposed to supplement the gun damage with the airstrike. At least the high-tier ones have flat shell arcs so you can aim easily. That's right, Dutch cruisers seem to be the only line that gets no ASW whatsover (D7P gets some depth charges). Though the bombs can hit surfaced subs.
