Hhehehe, yeah, the difference between confidence and over-confidence is oftentimes rather annoyingly thin. Like I have sometimes discovered in my Mogami, when after firing that tempting first salvo I have been on the receiving end of some 153 incoming shells of all calibers.

There is no single "must have" skill or set of skills as such. You must decide for yourself and perhaps experiment a bit, based on what ship(s) you are using and how you play. If your ship already has good concealment, perhaps you don't need it or perhaps, if it will be horrible anyway, there is no point. You have to select the captain skills, which best compliment each other considering the ship you are using and your personal play style. Taking 1 single "Captain build" and just blindly using it on all ships is just daft. So depending on what your ships "role" is going to be -" DD hunter, Tanking BB or torp boat, the skill set that allows you to perform your selected role in the particular ship you are in is always the best. So you will get the most out of your captains, when you customize their skill set to their particular ship. Well obviously. Captain skills will allow you to compensate for your ship's weaknesses to a degree and they will also allow you to maximize their strengths, but it is rarely possible to do both. So it is a matter of prioritising based on your experience. If you find yourself burning a lot, for example, by all means take the Fir prevention skill instead and so on. But of course... I do tend to keep my captains always on the same ship and I do not move them around much, so that is a bit different than what most players do I guess.

Hhehe! I'd prefer a pint instead tho.

Well, personally I have it for my DD's and Cruisers only. BB's are going to be spotted and stay spotted from far away anyways so there seems to be little point to do that. Besides, I find the Fire Prevention&AFT combo much more appealing for BB's. As far as CV's are concerned - Well they have no business being so close to the enemy in the first place. I always found that actually driving your CV around the map a bit works just fine to avoid inconvenient detection most times and once caught by an enemy DD or Cruiser too near no amount of stealth is going to be enough anyways.

“He marched them up to the top of the hill, then marched them down again!” = Duke of York, definitely...

Oh well, oh well... That could happen guys. There's always someone mad enough. Check this out: British M-class submarine Armament: 1 × BL 12-inch (304.800 mm) Mark IX gun (50 rounds) 1 × Mk II 3 in (76 mm) high angle anti-aircraft gun 4 × 18-inch (450-mm) (M3 & M4, 21 in (530 mm)) torpedo tubes (bow, 4 Royal Navy 18-inch (450-mm) torpedoes)[citation needed] (M1 & M2) Aircraft carried: M2 converted to carry Parnall Peto seaplane

20 DDs in a game (19 of them Longjiang) - any advance on that?
RAHJAILARI replied to Parkerzilla's topic in General Discussion
YEAH... I think it sounds like a good time to get more closely acquainted with my newly bought Rome 2, Total war DLC this weekend... -

if I ever decide to play during the night again
RAHJAILARI replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
Very true all dat. As for myself, if not spotted I will not use smoke. Only if under heavy fire. It is often best to try and delay smoking, if the other DD already used it, then the other can just spot on the cap edges for a while. You do not necessarily need to stay in cap circle the very first minute of the game, if it'll cause you to be insta-killed there, that is usually relatively unproductive. If heavily contested, but we have Cruiser backup, it is best to try and spot and drop the enemy DD's first rather than obstinately stick to the cap circle and get blown to bits. Dead DD caps nothing after all. But of course, just as long as you plan to go back to the breach as soon as the coast is clear... -
if I ever decide to play during the night again
RAHJAILARI replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
Personally, when there are so many DD's as is often the case in high tiers especially. I will join another DD so there will be 2 of us as well. Then try to cover the other corner of the cap than where the other DD is going so we have less risk of getting both insta-killed at once and if I manage to not get spotted during the exercise I try to stay and advance the cap, otherwise leave briefly, then return. But not to where we dropped smoke because it will be swarming torps very soon... Sometimes it works. Much depends on each side's supporting Cruisers and BB's too. If they pummel the enemy DD, we win otherwise we are likely to lose. C'est la Wows... -

RAHJAILARI replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
Hhehehe! @wilkatis_LV seems like you had a hectic 3 games there. That's why I try to avoid playing at night (well, unless sauced myself), it seems many or most players are either drunk, on drugs or just retarded or any combination of thereof. Had many such wondrous experiences and mainly from late night games. Fri&Sat are absolutely the worst, but also applies to other weekdays with similar-ish frequency. -
Hmmh... Before making any further judgement on the matter... Err, what be a "Cyber Monday"? Sorry, I'm old... Nevahööd that one before.

What do you play when a new ship line is released?
RAHJAILARI replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
Excellent tip @_DeathWing_, lucky for me - I do have an Aki... -
I would not mind subs either.. Played a little game called Steel Ocean the other week just to test it and they actually have a working concept on how to include subs in the game (with full tech trees for them too), which is quite fun. But yeah, they should have a unit cap just like OP suggested.

Will BBs still be viable after 6.14 is out?
RAHJAILARI replied to Technocrat_Prime's topic in General Discussion
Somehow I don't think it will be as much of a problem for BB's as it is for Cruisers, since Cruisers are supposed to be the ones protecting BB from DD's, they must play in front and so get eliminated earlier on. Of course, after they all have been torp'd, the BB's too will have a problem. -
I would not mind some additional weather effects to provide more variety and perhaps variable spotting ranges, affecting accuracy (poorer dispersion / reduced torp accuracy and range in heavy seas) and some such things. When done right, it might actually prove quite fun.

What do you play when a new ship line is released?
RAHJAILARI replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
Was planning to go cruiser myself. hate those long queues, when everyone is trying to play the new line all at once. When they released the RN BB's I played DD, so more of the same I guess... See how they can be countered then. Although I must admit, I have been playing Cruisers almost exclusively lately, since I have decided to start learning how to play them (still somewhat of a of a potato, I admit), so you could say I'm just gonna continue with the usual never-the-less. Might be a bit of a hardship position though, since these ones have the dreaded anti-Cruiser torps in them. Hmmm, mebbe, if I just bravely skulk behind our own BB's (instead of like, trying to protect them from DD's or some other foolish and suicidal stuff) and feed them to the sharks first? -
Ahh, thanks for clarification @_Helmut_Kohl_ I had also misunderstood the question... I'm all for that then Hhehehe...

Hmm... Perhaps ramming mechanism could be tweaked in such a way that a ship ramming another bow-on directly to the side would suffer significantly less ramming damage (perhaps -50%) than the other one? In any case this is how it works in real world too. Also ships ramming each other head-on would suffer equal damage. Just thinking about the HMS Victoria's fate in collision with HMS Camperdown and also the Battle of Lissa, which the Austro-Hungarians managed to win against Italy almost purely by ramming and suffered no ships sunk in exchange though 1 was severely damaged.

Well @Negativvv, in my opinion, since being a bottom tier in any battle is already an uphill battle, the fire chance mechanic should in my opinion be exactly the reverse, just to give the little buggers at the least some chance of being able to come out with some results in a higher tier match (I do not mean anything earth-shattering, maybe +0.5-1% per each lower tier would do). I mean lower tier ships have literally nothing going for them in any match, they typically do not have the range or firepower, nor the mobility or even stealth, when compared to their higher tier cousins. So in the interests of much vaunted game-balance and just to keep things more interesting, it would make sense to me to give lower tier ships on average a slightly increased fire chance so they will have some hope of doing any damage (they cannot possibly hope for pens most of the time). Of course to improve on this, they should also be given slightly better stealth that their higher tier cousins, just because they are typically either slightly or significantly smaller in size (in actual measurements) and also for gameplay purposes, just to give them a little something to get by, when uptiered in a battle. As it is now, whenever uptiered in anything but a DD, you are just cattle for slaughter, pure and simple and this does not a good gameplay make. Evening up the odds even if just a little bit would improve the gameplay experience markedly.

Aww @Blixies, you just have to learn how to play more badly, that's all. Don't be all greedy and kill them at once...
-
NAAH! Just last weekend flooded a Bismark from almost full health to death with only 1 torp hit with a Shiratsuyu. Just need to hit them at the right time and high tier ships have more HP to lose...
-
Use IJN destroyers, their torps have the highest chance of flooding and always wear the Juliet Whiskey Unaone signals, if you have them (they increase the chance of flooding). Also, try to make sure you hit the enemy on the bow, that pretty much guarantees flooding. Of course, you should try to make sure to time your torping them immediately AFTER they have already used their damage control to maximize the time it floods. You can do this by observing the target, that currently seems to be losing health to fires or invisible (flooding), once they stop burning or losing health they are pretty sure to have used it, then hit them again... It is evil, but it works

YUPp... Cruisers were totally OP anyways and way too tough to kill so their survivability just HAD to be nerfed somehow. This was definitely the best way to do that. You know, because of the much talked about and bothersome Cruiser overpopulation... Err, waittaminute...?
