    A new level of ABYSMAL...

Sith happens dude, in my shortest game. I was out in my Mogami and desperately trying to dodge incoming hail of shells from seemingly every enemy ship. It was only 5 minutes and 45sec into the game so i thought: "For God's sakes don't they have anyone else to shoot at?" Well, it turns out that they didn't, since my last other team mate had recently died... I just missed the ominous "You are our last hope - Announcement" in my panic. I did not survive long past the 6 minute mark either, 6min 15 sec. Got a few lucky torp hits on my pursuers and 1 kill but that was it. We lost 12 to 3 in the end. Not a very good game obviously. This battle is the reason I activated replays in Wows, I would love to find out WTF just happened.
  2. I keep failing to see why anyone would waste 3 perfectly good captain skill points on such a useless and trivial skill for a Cruiser tho... For a DD, I can understand and the addition is significant, but for a Cruiser (since a DD can fight from stealth with torps only and easily disappear back into concealment, Cruisers have to shoot, so they will be insta-killed the moment they fire their next salvo even IF they manage to hide for a time, which is not very likely either)? It is just a matter of being a 1 shot kill to anyone (even the DD's) in any case so what is the point?

    Missouri or Musashi?

I confess @T0byJug , the temptation was just too strong... BUT! In my defense...

    Finally got a supercontainer.....

Yeah @Miessa3dude, exactly what i mean. I would not want to give up something like Main Armaments Mod1 for this one. Oh wait up! Perhaps Mikasa? it's main guns are practically useless and not liable to hit anything anyways... Or not possible because too low tier?

    Finally got a supercontainer.....

Oh yeah, @ColorsOfRainbowsthe vaunted "Damage Control Party Modification 1" is it? ... Does anyone have any idea what it is good for? I mean in what ship you could/should actually use it? I gots a couple also and it has sadly seemed quite pointless so far... "

    Missouri or Musashi?

Hmm... Sssoo, is Musashi likewise going to be called the "Mighty MU" then?

    Finally got a supercontainer.....

Half a dozen Spotting Aircraft Mods say that it could be worse dude. I'd prefer flags any day.

    ST, new unique commander

Yeah, that's why planning to put the fellow in a Cruiser... Problem solved.

    ST, new unique commander

Well, @Skyllon Karl von Müller, the commander of SMS Emden during WW1 was universally recognized, as a naval Hero. Even among the allies, so he would seem like the perfect candidate to me. And Guaranteed no association with the Nazis whatsoever.

I would not be surprised, if it wasn't the next in-line but wait and see... Sure to come sooner or later.

    ST, tears of cruisers revised

Yeah, @rvfharrier I think it is because they wanted to give more opportunities to use the much extended range and accuracy of BB guns. Unfortunately this kinda makes all those maps really hard for Cruisers and lower tier BB's as well (I guess, do not play much BB). No trouble for DD either way, of course.

    ST, new unique commander

I'm so gonna get this guy and put him in my Emile or perhaps Algerie... Have to decide on that later.

    ST, tears of cruisers revised

Hookey, that might work to some extent anyways, though it will get crowded with all the Cruisers and perhaps BB too camping behind the couple of viable islands in there... Have to test first and see how it goes. But it is good, they finally realized that it needed adjusting at the least. Now, if someone just found a way how to Mogami on the dratted "Ocean" map ...

    Missouri or Musashi?

For me it will be Musashi OFC, but that is only because I am an IJN fanatic. Otherwise I would have been forced to take the Iowa (oh agony) for my tier 9 BB and put the cook there to captain it (he is now in Des Moines instead). Phew! That was a close shave indeed. Reasons? Well, the IJN fetish, + I always wanted to have my Yamato config the same way than Musashi is now (with the mass of 155mm secodaries) + I set myself the rule that all my ships should have historically existed (no paper ships allowed). This is why I have a Des Moines instead of a Zao for my tier 10 Cruiser, it was agony but a choce had to be made. Well, admittedly, I do have a few other ships from other countries too, but just the choice ones I happen to fancy for totally irrational reasons.

    IFHE on French Cruisers?

@SovietFury43 , so basically what we are saying is: IFHE is beneficial to most 150mm cruisers, though it will hurt your fire chance, it will mean that you can increase your damage input significantly and combined with Demolition Expert, the reduction in fire chance is not that huge anyways.
  18. Solid advise @22cm and one that I have tried a few times too. The results have been varied, some awesome successes tho. Last time was at a B cap on the "Warriors path map" it seemed like all the opposing Cruisers and BB were mostly supporting A and C and their line of fire covered by islands so I sneaked into the cap circle itself with our Yugumo while covered by the islands between the C and B It turns out there was a USN DD there (Benson or Fletch maybe, forgot which), so both DD fired their torps at each other and smoked (the usual DD-thingy) with our Yugumo getting the worst of it and the enemy DD, who had not spotted me yet (as I was covered by island in the middle) tried to go around the island and finish our Yugumo off, when he ran right into me at some 2 km distance. There was some obviously panicked maneuvering (I was not worried, since he already had used his torps, so I had actually stopped full broadside on to use all guns) and after 2 salvos it was all over for the poor sap. We capped in peace and even managed to sneak out undetected. Our team later lost the match tho, but I was rather happy with the result anyway. Also, our Yugumo, having survived the experience had a good game and turned out to be our best player racking up 3 kills. I have ever since tried to get into close range some 5km behind the capping DD as much as possible sometimes even going into the cap with them (but only, if there is island cover or then I can see that the enemy BB & Cruisers are not in position to focus on me). No use going there, if you cannot make your escape after that, so it always depends on the overall situation and ship positions (both theirs and ours). This is a bit high risk tactic, but very rewarding and I think I am getting slightly better at it (even remembering to plot my escape route BEFORE the inevitable wetting of pants), also getting blapped somewhat less while doing it than used to be the case before. Of course part of the reason I do this more often is probably because I AM a DD main myself and play IJN DD's exclusively so I have personally acutely felt the need for getting close-range Cruiser support often enough.
  19. Hhehehe! I always suspected as much but had no proof. Grammys are the most vicious no doubt...
  20. True all dat, have been doing that as much as possible especially at the beginning of the game, but at some points in the game the DD's kinda tend to stray off (or I tend to stray off) or get killed and if the enemy has DD's still left that always mean a difficult game because Mogami seems to depend o stealth for survival almost more than some DD's. Yeah, getting spotted, while bow-on is almost a certain death penalty, if out in the open, because every BB will overmatch the armor and you cannot turn without a LOL-pen anyways. What I try to do these days is to try anticipate the "danger-zone" when it is bound to happen and already start turning before I am spotted so I would be showing my sexy hindquarters to the enemy when they do (well, you DO want to look you best in any case), this also has the added benefit of making it possible to fire those terribly awkward torps, when running for your dear life in a hare-raising hailstorm of fire. I still find it rather unfair for all of them big boys focusing on lil'ole me instead of that big juicy Bismarck or Tirpitz showing full broadside tho (not that I don't enjoy the attention but annyhoot)... I chose the Adrenaline Rush on the premise that the extra firing speed will be useful and also on the admission that to Mogami IS to get heavy damage (I have almost no games, where I have not taken a beating, even when I survived - Naturally more practice and improved skill might eventually alleviate this problem too) at virtually every opportunity and so that would presumably allow me to return at the least some of the punishment before my inevitable demise. I have no proof that this actually works, but I tend to do most of my damage towards the end of the game. Or at the least just before getting blapped, so maybe that supports the theory.
  21. Djääm dude, that actually sounds like a good idea... Never thought of it that way. Yeah, I'm a bit squeamish about losing that bit of stealth for better wiggles to be honest. It comes in handy, when trying to sneak close enough to that pesky angry smoke I plan to torp getting prematurely spotted and caught right in the middle of an attempted sneak is never good news. And of course, even if I get spotted with 9.3km concealment it means that I can still launch my torps while running away and the intended target would be within their 10km range. Well admittedly they would have to be complete idiots to just stay in the same place after that and take them, but luckily we still have quite a few of those left in the game (it is truly surprising how often that desperate measure actually works). Our team recently won a game because of that. We had 2 enemy DD's capping our base so I went there to try and find and kill or chase them out, except that we had only spotted 1 so I did not know about the other. I then saw an angry smoke, but unfortunately one of the DD's was apparently just outside or on the edge of smoke and I got spotted and the invariable hailstorm of shell and shot from their supporting BB and Cruisers started, so I was forced to turn away, but launched my torps because I figgered the pesky DD was just within my range. Was quite surprised, when I got DOUBLE-STRIKE a minute later.. Of course, pure skill, no luck eh? Strangely, my karma for the game went down by 2 points? Perhaps they felt it was totally cowardly and unsporting to be torping in smoke like that. Go figure.
  22. Since Atago comes up so often, I must admit that do have it actually. One reason I opted for 155mm Mogami in that very fact in the first place. Just for the kicks, you know. I also took the additional fighter plane (Called control center for catapult aircraft?). AND I put a perma-19 point captain in it, who I'm attempting to skill specifically so that it is best for Mogami and never use him anywhere else. Of course, the skills to use are a kinda trial-and-error basis thingy and will have to be synched with the upgrade modules to produce the best results, so this is still very much a project in progress. I did take the module for better turret traverse also, seemed like indispensable, I have it for all IJN Cruisers, in fact (I have all IJN Cruisers except Zao). Really? @Agantas 155mm Mogami has the 2nd highest DPM after Des Moines? I had no idea but guess I got lucky on that one then Hehehe, as my reasons for choosing the 155 are way more frivolous and totally dominated by sheer vanity (explained more in shameful detail in a previous response above)... I would, of course rather like to claim intelligent design here, but alas, some spoiler-sadist once claimed that "honesty is the best policy" or some such bull-crap, so here it is then... Sigh! My current Modules are: Damage Control Party 2, Hydro2 and Catapult fighter2. Then upgrades: Main Armaments 1, steering gears 1, Main armaments 2, steering gears 2 and concealment 1. Someone suggested before swapping the concealment 1 with steering gears 3 to get even better maneuverability so I might give it a try. Sound intriguing but have to see how it affects my concealment overall. Though losing any concealment scares me to bits, that seems like such a good way to get blapped real early (I quite often "get it" due to being spotted by a DD at an inconvenient time). My captain skills at the moment are: Direction Center for Catapult Aircraft (the extra fighter), Expert marksman and Adrenaline rush, Demolition expert and Vigilance then Concealment Expert and IFHE.
  23. Did you know that, as originally proposed the Japanese wanted to equip Tone class (yes the odd one with all 8*203äs in front) with 15*155 guns? I have not been able to figure out how the heck they planned to accommodate all that. But oh well, I would just take the regular Tone quite happily as well. I like freaks.
  24. Heh! @Lord_WC @Tyrendian89 I have to confess, that admittedly my chief reason for choosing the 155 instead of the 203 was nothing as scientific or well founded, as all that you guys are talking about. I took them mainly for purely cosmetic reasons (because I am a silly bugger and it is awesome to have 15 guns - Woah!) also, since I am not yet a crack shot i figgered increasing the number of guns might increase my chances of hitting anything as small and wiggly as a DD (I recently failed to hit a barn while standing inside with the doors closed). BUT it is very educational to follow an expert discussion on the topic, I will certainly learn something useful here.
  25. That makes sense yeah. Guess it also depends on the role you want to specialize in. Might have to think carefully the kinda modules I have as well as the captain skills to get it all to sync for best results.
