  1. A good idea @Skyllon Doesn't Claus Kellermann have those "the Biggest A*sshole"-videos in Youtube? He might be persuaded to make a few for warships as well. Not that I ever watch any such, of course...

    FIX that [edited]Match Maker

Yeah, I know what you mean... I once got into a tier 9 match with a Graf Spee quite by accident (I swear I though I had Myoko selected). Was expecting to get insta-blapped immediately after firing the first salvo, but got a pretty good result instead. Mostly on account of cowardly skulking in various smokes and shamelessly torping approaching stuff from behind islands. Never thought she would make a decent torpedo-boat actually, but the torp angles are VERY good so you can do Yolo-runs and with a heal, you will be able to make a couple more before suiciding. Somehow I did survive that particular match tho.

    Year of the cruiser when?

Well @Excavatus, I myself enjoy Mogami very much. Have the Hipper as well and discovered her a very good gunboat, able to citadel Roon at 12km with some luck. And definitely better than Mogami in CV games (it actually has good AA). Also makes a very decent torpedo-boat too, the only issue being the bit of trying to sneak close enough to actually use those 6km torpedoes (but totally able to one-shot-torp an Izumo or Bismarck, should you manage it), if you get lucky. Just play cautious and you'll do OK even if bottom-tier. Totally rules in those games where you get to be top-tier, of course. I kept her.

Awww @AnotherDuck... There you go again with the crazy talk. We can't possibly afford to listen to you on this topic - You are a deranged maniac(but I truly mean that the in the best and cuddliest possible way, of course) after all and would send all of us an early doom. Though to be completely honest. I may not be entirely absolved from blame on the lunatic front myself either, as we sometimes deliberately make a "fail division" just to get into tier 3 games with a Hashidate or some such. That is all fun and games, until after the inevitable defeat that follows you realize that you were the 3rd best player in the team. That is just sad.

    Year of the cruiser when?

Hmmm... Perhaps it would be best just to recognize that there are 2 distinctly different classes of Cruisers and separate their tech trees accordingly. With CL being the dedicated DD hunters and light gunboats (kinda like RU DD's already are) and equipped with the same smoke than Perth. This would be their "survival mechanism". Mostly equipped with Hydro OR radar and smoke. A decent AA, but No Defensive AA tho. CA's on the other hand should be considered the escorts and support ships to BB's and CV's and there fore should be equipped accordingly = With a heal, since they will get blapped easily in any case. Their consumables should be Defensive AA, Catapult Fighter and the heal. This should be the case in all tiers, perhaps fewer numbers of heals than BB's(maybe 2) and less smoke charges (2 also?) would be fine for the basic setup without addition skills or premium. This would provide the Cruiser at the least SOME basic survival mechanism in connection with their perceived role(s) and possibly prolong their active time in an average game, perhaps making the line overall more attractive to casual players (therefore by default also resolving the sk. "BB overpopulation" issue). And before anyone points it out - Of course, repair party consumables to all as usual.

Convince me to go Soviet DDs

Weel Guys, Gnevnyi class of destroyers DID actually exist and were known to be very good and tough destroyers during the war providing sterling service on all seas. Probably not embued with the same superpowers that in this game tho. Just Good ole' fashioned DD's and that's all. Leningrad, Tashkent, Udaloi and the others also are loosely (VERY) based on real ships. So they are not pure fantasy, however their gun statistics and speed is of course sheer BS "for gaming purposes" only. But then again, hey it is good to see that the much vaunted Soviet bias is alive and well. As far as I am concerned the DD line is fine (since, you know, most of them actually existed in some form or another). Of course, quite a few of the Soviet Cruiser line are pure paper ships that were never launched but at the least Comrade Stalin did have a good and lively imagination and some fantastical technical visionary artists. That's something to go on.

    Yeah, just like he said...

They have the best guns and speed? In Soviet Russia, DD kill Cruiser and not the other way around...

Totally fair and balanced, I tell you. Well, so long as I gets me the Amagi, of course. Katori VS. Fuso?Or perhaps just make it Dunkerque just to be sure...

    FIX that [edited]Match Maker

Yeah right @Ysterpyp, the good old days, when I was able to get into tier 5 games with a Mikasa... Oh Joy! Was sometimes fun tho, but I suspect the only ones to love that proposal would be the Mutsuki-drivers....
  12. Yeah, you are totally the only one dude... Ehheheheh! Consider yourself trolled... But seriously, this kinda thing happens daily, we can only hope that MM has the good sense to allocate all these guys into the Red team...

    Diehard in a Destroyer!?

Hehe! You got the problem right in the noggin' @Miessa3, my friend. I HAVE only IJN BB's, so that right there IS admittedly the main problem. You just cannot play them like "real" battleships at all. Well OK, and I admit to a few KM ones up to Bismarck and the Dunkerque too. But not really played them much either yet. Learning how to Cruiser first.

    What statistics tell?

Yeah, I have noticed the same about DM, I configured mine for Radar and hydro (DD hunting). So I always try to closely follow the DD to cap, hope they smoke me and if not die horribly, but always trying to close support the cap. I usually get the enemy DD, if any are there and we will get the cap most times. Then reverse away and hope they stop plastering me before I sink. This has produced some reasonably good results so far (only 10 games played so still learning tho), but of course that is all situational and the end result varies wildly. Though, DM is a powerful ship and dying too early will limit the damage you can do so of course, survival is always preferable. One just has to pick his fights carefully that's all.

    Diehard in a Destroyer!?

Weel, I must admit... I HAVE mostly played only DD so far. I just began practicing Cruiser recently and gave up on BB's long time ago. I do intend to pick them up later again at some point. You know, when they get over all this silly "bow-tanking-camping-meta"-malarkey and you could actually broadside something as God intended.

    Diehard in a Destroyer!?

Not that hard actually @piritskenyer... Out of the 31 Dreadnoughts that I have more than 20 were achieved with a DD. Just hafta make sure you sport the SE skill on your captain, hehe. Oh yeah, and of course - Try to keep in mind the little "not dying horribly"-bit too...
  17. RAHJAILARI

    Diehard in a Destroyer!?

This is totally possible @TigerMoth, my 2nd atest "Die Hard" was apparently earned in a Wakatake of all ships... I have no idea or recollection of what happened tho.
  18. Indeed... Maybe it will have an 8km concealment and smoke so it can do the capping?

Radar and Tier V & VI

Also very good for detecting submarines...
  20. Yes,all that is fine but HOW do you get to use 137 reserve slots (and still growing with every other container it seems)? Especially, since I have only 56 ships... We should be able to sell the excess.

Radar and Tier V & VI

Yeah @Runegrem, I never read the minimap until after completely potatoeing the first 2000 games... I think it was a Mr. Jingles video that finally alerted me to the possibility of an existing way to avoid those "invisible islands"... Until then I had just treated it, as an annoyance to be minimized with the obvious consequences.

    New patch working as intended

Heh, I remember one time, when every other member on both teams, except for myself (in Furutaka) and an enemy Giulio apparently got disconnected at the same time in the middle of a battle. It was quite an an odd match, we of course shamelessly sank each others teams and then had a duel. Fortunately for me he ate a torpedo before being able to citadel me, so we won. Hooray! Fun times.

Radar and Tier V & VI

Did not seem to be so much the case during WW2: " 200-MHz (1.5-m) system used a "flying bedspring" antenna and had a PPI. With 200-kW peak-power output, it could detect aircraft at ranges up to 100 miles, and ships at 30 miles. " I do not dispute the physics but that IS just about the same range one could spot a BB by just eyeballing from the top at the time. Perhaps something to do with the power output?
  24. RAHJAILARI

Radar and Tier V & VI

Yeah @AnotherDuck, radar would be OK if it only worked a bit more realistically (yeah, I know this is only a game, but sometimes reality is better than sheer fairy-tale). For example, radar actually DID NOT increase the ship spotting range as such (because this is largely determined by physical ship size and curvature of the earth, which radar cannot alter). It only made it possible to locate targets better in the dark or in poor visibility and to determine their distance more effectively = More accurate gunfire. So therefore, DD's for example would have the exact same spotting range than when eyeballing, but of course, you could still see them through smoke. Also radar had (and it still has) blind spots, which could be exploited. It could never see objects behind islands or even immediately in front of them. Fix those and radar will still be useful, but not OP or game-breaking in any way. As for Cruiser survivability... All CL should have a smoke of some kind available to them, as a survival mechanism just like the RN Cruisers. As for CA, yeah, they probably should all have a heal, since they will take heavy damage anyways. that would keep them in the game a tad longer at the least. And yeah, I think all Cruisers should be separated in 2 separate tech trees CL and CA to accommodate this clear distinction. Also, perhaps WG could introduce varied water depth? Closer to the island, only small craft can go (DD, CL), all others stay further away or get stuck on a reef. This would reduce island hugging and keep em' buggers mobile instead.

    A solution to passive/poor gameplay?

Hmm, of course... WG could make it so that the distance traveled during each match would also yield some additional XP... More movement, more XP. That should be simple to do. Also, perhaps a bonus depending of the average proximity to the enemy? But of course, we have to consider that some BB, like all the IJn BB's are actually designed in such a way that doing anything else, except sniping from afar tends to be nigh-suicidal (slow turret traverse, puny secondaries and high citadel directly means they cannot perform in a brawl) this would have to be addressed as well. There are also modules, such as the vaunted Main Battery Modification 3, which is almost a must-have to BB's but since it reduces turret traverse, it means that after mounting it, you just cannot go near the enemy, because your already slow turrets traverse is now even slower and you would get massacred at close quarters. So this is very much a game design issue as well, I am pretty sure WG has not even considered the actual impact all these will have on gameplay in practical terms (camping, passive gameplay) although in hindsight it should have been obvious right from the start. That itself is not an impossible problem and it could quite easily be fixed by minor adjustments to modules and other game components, the question IS - Why haven't they? Yeah, I somehow suspect the game designers don't actually play their own game but instead spend their time locked away in a dark room staring at statistics or something.
