Yeah, I know man... I just cannot understand how anyone can have actually played any amount of games with a DD (and certainly anyone past tier 4 or higher) without actually figuring out what torps are for OR that there are times, when remaining concealed (so no pewpew) is actually good for you. But yeah, it is wacky but indeed happens all the time. I wonder what interesting theories the esteemed Dr. Freud would have come up with, if he had been introduced to this peculiar phenomena? Personally, I just had to conclude that probably up to 90% of mankind has already been infiltrated by mor*ons and that our inevitable demise is nigh!

Yeah, the weirdest thing is that during the final run, when the enemy team was doing their very best to provoke me to shoot (the usual taunting-thing) so they could kill me (they has no more DD left to spot me). It actually seemed like they had allies in our own team, several of whom seemed to be of the opinion that I should have thrown the game by "Bravely" charging the entire enemy team by myself (yeah right, sure with all my remaining 230 HP, that's gonna get the job done ... I would have sunk immediately if anyone just passed wind in my general direction and I daresay they tried). I think quite a few people are clearly confused about the difference between idiocy and bravery. Oh well.

Yeah, just what @veslingr said. Also were you perhaps bottom tier? One gets extra points for any damage done to higher tier ships...

Got a "Solo Warrior" in Gaede today. Capped all the caps unopposed, just because the enemy did not seem to be interested. Team decided that the game is as good as won and therefore committed mass suicide at about 15 mins. I was left alone with 8 enemies, sank 3 while on the run. In the end we won by roughly 870 points to 550, when the time ran out. Before the End, made sure to let them know I had only 230 HP remaining. Lost 3 points of Karma. TOTALLY WORTH IT !!!

True dat... On the other hand, when rushing a Yamato with a torpedo armed Cruiser you can keep angled until the last minute to reduce secondary damage, the main guns won't be able to keep up so you're quite safe and BAM! You will get all or most of your torps to hit. Works best with a German Cruiser, though I have managed once with a Mogami too, but admittedly that was mostly dumb luck and because he was initially looking the other way (sneaked up on him from behind an island).

Well, unfortunately Yamato has been designed as a dedicated "Sniper BB" from the start (only talking about WG version here not the real ship, mind you). Including the only still above-waterline citadel perfectly positioned to discourage any attempt at approaching to close range and brawl. So I'd say that conventional wisdom would preclude any secondary setup for her or at the least make it pointless. Any and all modules / upgrades which increase or stack up to improve accuracy, range or reload speed are recommendable though (yeah they stack up BTW, by taking both you can get 14% buff to accuracy). One exception to this is perhaps AA mod, which could be quite useful too, when sniping 30km away at the map border all by yourself and getting singled out by a CV... IF you happen to have a CV in the game, that is. All that said... UNLESS of course, you are an utter fool such as myself, who would still attempts to figure out how to make her perform in somewhat closer-quarter combat, but alas WG ship design is decidedly against this kind of ambition (still doing it tho)...

Well done then @Wilkinson87 Also keep in mind that even though it is usually a good idea to keep your AA turned off - You can also use your own AA to do the job, especially if enemy CV is the same tier or lower than you. You can try short focused AA burst to kill off one or 2 enemy fighters keeping you spotted. At this point there's no harm done, since you have already been spotted anyways. So give it a whack - Basically, just let the AA be off at first and when needed, click directly on the fighter(s) you are targeting when they are closest to you (same like focusing AA with a Cruiser or secondaries in BB), this will intensify and focus the AA on those planes and it will immediately make a burst of focus-fire and keep going. The net effect often is that you shoot down at least one, sometimes 2 planes keeping you spotted and become invisible after that (just remember to turn the AA back off afterwards). If no CV planes are available (they might be too far or otherwise engaged), you can also drive close to a nearby friendly Cruiser or a BB for some additional AA muscle until the fighters get tired of losing more planes and give up the ghost - Or get shot down, either is fine. Of course, this only works, if there are any in the vicinity.

DOH!... Because if you're not doing too well in Randoms, totally make sense that it would go so much better in Ranked? THEN REPEAT...

@ColonelPete is right. I also have a Kagerou with TRB and Torpedo Acceleration (so 8km torps) too. Ain't no-one easily dodging those... However, radar is a problem, as you have to get close and well within the radar range to actually use them. So some verry careful playing is to be practiced first to live long enough. You can do plenty damage, when playing careful and smart, even with the radars in game, just bait them, keep you distance until they have used it and then use the 2 minute cooldown window to make a torp run on something nearby. Escape and repeat. It is a bit tricky, especially if there are enemy DD's around but still doable. Oh yeah, @Excavatus is right too. You have to get close, I usually try to sneak to about 6km from the target before launching torps. You see, these aren't exactly homing torpedoes, they will blindly go wherever aimed at, regardless of where the target goes and it will take them a long time to get there. Therefore the further away you launch your torps from, the more likely you will miss the target because even the slightest random change in target's course or speed will foul your aim completely. This is why you need to use your concealment and get close, so the chance that they will suddenly change direction or speed would be as small as possible. Also, when launching torps, you must plan a bit how you go about it. Your salvos should overlap each other a bit (do not launch both salvos at exactly the same aiming point) so that the torps will scatter more and better cover the gaps between each volley. This is taking into account that your target will surely try to dodge them, as they indeed should be doing, and by planning for that you will increase your chances to score a hit or few. It is always best to position yourself slightly ahead and to side of the target to improve chances of a torp hit. Launching torps at a target, which is moving away from you is usually futile as, they will be easy to doge and may run out of range before reaching it. Also avoid launching torps directly from the front, as they will likewise be easy to dodge.

Yeah, I have seen Shimas persistently NOT using them even when in a knife fight with an enemy DD and clearly visible (within a couple of km of their opponent), still obstinately trying to torp them, failing and then waiting for reloads while running. Have no idea what that is all about anyways... The guns are actually quite decent, even if they have a slow reload and bad turret traverse. On the other hand, I also saw a Fubuki yesterday opening fire and trying to gun down a full health Emile Bertin from something like 10+km away (gunboat build??) while not launching any torps all game (yeah, I'm sure - He did that right in front of me almost immediately when first enemy, The Emile, was spotted and so got himself killed within the first couple of minutes or so). I guess we have all sorts then. Oh yes, apparently they are... My only tier 10 Dd is Shima and I always find that the friendly Cruisers behind me seem to be utterly taken by surprise, when I head for the caps first. You get some priceless & hilarious commentary thadda-way (and quite often the cap too). Totally worth it.

Funnily enough, I did exactly the same with my Russian line & Gnevny. Wonderful! In the end I realized it just when I was about to upgrade to Minsk, mounted the dam*ned upgrades and modules for a last match just out of spite anyways. Then sold her off. It's the only right way to grind Russian DD's.

Yeah, I'm afraid this good fortune was all fully pre-paid in fact. I prepared for this by plodding through to just over 30% WR all Friday and Saturday. So this barely got me back up to my usual average in the end. Nice for a change tho.

I think what he means to say is that, when you start playing ranked, you begin with tier 8 ships. You will only need tier 10's later on, when you have progress to a high enough rank.

100% winrate on Sunday! Only 12 games played tho... I would have continued while the going was good, but then an unexpected calamity struck home and I was mercilessly dragged away to become a heavy furniture mover thus being condemned to aimlessly shift the living room furniture about ("because it might look better here") the house until finally returning everything back to their original places several hours of agonizingly wasted life later. I even tried the brilliant Biblical excuse that Sundays are supposed to be the God's ordained days of worship and rest, so the evil mistress should just go about the town worshiping (since she is devout catholic and Pope was here in Dublin for God's sakes), instead of tormenting innocent by-standers, while I (being a protestant heathen) would hold the fort and boldly sacrifice by taking care of the more demanding "rest" part of it. But alas - To no avail... Life is cruel.

Weel, for Finland this one would be a nice tier 4 "Cruiser" kinda in the style of a mini-Graf Spee or somewhat beefed-up Katori: Coastal defense ship, Väinämöinen: Very slow, but very Good AA for the tier and good, accurate long range main guns. Def AA and Repair Party consumables, no Planes The ship was handed over to the Soviets as war reparations after WW2, was renamed "Vyborg" and then served in their navy until scrapped in 1966, so WG basically already has the blueprints too.

Seems like a normal MM to me, so what's the issue? +/-2 Tiers, as usual. I have no complaints about that (most of the time anyways). Well, excluding that one game, when I was included in a tier 10 battle on the "Mountain Range" map (this was before mirrored MM was introduced. so ancient history by now) with 23 BB's and 1 Tier 8 Cruiser (it was very early morning, so probably my bad, I should have known better). And obviously that just HAD to be me in a bloody Hipper... I've occasionally been somewhat tempted to gripe about that a bit, but naah... It's all good now.

Weel, I could not say. Would not dare to risk getting caught watching any extra-marital sailoring videos... The containers are OK and I don't mind the token purchases either though sheer survival instinct firmly precludes me from getting involved with any Dasha or Alina captains (I only buy the signals) - Or even viewing the anniversary rewards list before I'm sure the door is firmly locked and all potential health hazards removed to a safe distance outside the house for some hard-core away-from-home shopping.

Yeah, I'll bet my money on these 2. First of all Mino simply does not have enough HP to even take 4 Shimatorp hits and live, it'll die from 2 or 3 already, Well unless you hit 2 on the bow or stern and there's damage saturation. From replay I think he dodged all of them actually. So unless the Shima-guy is just full of BS, then 2 is the likely truth. But then again, one can see all this from the battle results screen quite easily. Let's see the guy send a replay in and take a look, though somehow I suspect he won't. PS. I have a Shima myself and some 900 games in it, this kinda magic never happened to me though admittedly I have only 10km torps.

Fair enough. I guess we'll have to accept that for the time being. Though hitting yourself 125 times on the head with a wooden plank might actually prove far less agonizing.

Yeah, wish I could cash it all in... 1 to 1 exchange ratio would do quite nicely... Would still only be just barely enough pocket change to cover my wife's weekend shopping spree tho... And even after that she wouldn't have anything to wear...HOW THE HE*LL DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN !?
