    Picking caps in Domination battles

Weel brother @lovelacebeer, it really depends on the map and situation (where the others are actually going) and so forth. I'm playing Cruisers nowadays for the most part. My chosen role is DD support, so what I usually do is to pick a nearby DD to follow, then go to whichever cap she is heading to (5km behind so I don't get spotted prematurely). Simple as that but of course I do keep an eye on those pesky BB's and if they suddenly abandon the flank and leave us all by our lonesome then it's perhaps time to reconsider. Warn the DD that we are alone and if strong enemies are spotted, hightail it outta there as quickly as possible. In some occasions I will try to go for a cap myself, if it seems there is no opposition (this is rare tho) or continue anyway, if it seems that there opposition is light or just equal to us. Well for the ost part anyways, but there are times when going for a delaying action is the best choice just to keep the opponent from flanking the rest of the team. There is no single concept that always works, but one must adapt to the situation and hope for the best. But MOST IMPORTANTLY NEVER TRUST WHAT THEY SAY IN CHAT without checking yourself, keep an eye on the minimap and see for yourself where the rest of the team is REEAALLY going, then adjust your gameplan accordingly. Blindly doing what someone tells you to in chat will likely get you insta killed soon enough. After all it's not their own ship they are sacrificing by trying to send you out on a suicide mission. And in any case always remember YOU DO NOT HAVE TO VOLUNTEER FOR IT, so make your own decisions just like everyone else. There may be some complaining or karma loss as a result, but it is better to have a good game than get insta-blapped just because you went to some cap on someone else's say-so all by your lonesome and got slaughtered on the spot. This is very much a team game, but that does not mean you should sacrifice yourself just to prove your loyalty or some such bullcrap. Keep in mind that you will always be worth more to your team while still alive and fighting rather than stone cold dead. Play accordingly and try to delay the dying-bit as long as possible, then do some damage (after all it is generally rather hard, although not all together impossible, to do any damage whilst already dead).

CV rework - are they going to start at T6?

True dat, innderesding thought... Though light carriers might have to be balanced against Cruisers or some such arrangement. But then again the difference could be that Fleet carriers be the surface ship killers while the escort carriers assist with air supremacy, spotting and sub-killing (with a dive-bomber squadron, which could also be used against other ships). Kinda like it really was at the time.

CV rework - are they going to start at T6?

I would not mind personally... It never made any sense to me to have 2 CV's in games where hardly any ship (Texas exempted) has worthwhile AA to speak of. Though it means I will have to re-spec my Yubari... Sniff!

    Clima changes

Doubt it lad, they are more like the Police. Whenever I want one, there's none around and whenever I REALLY wouln't care to see any, there they are...

    RPF good on BBs?

    ?? What sorcery is that?
  6. RAHJAILARI

    RPF good on BBs?

Done that kinda thingy many times myself, incidentally this only happens on Fri or Sat nights. I wonder why that is...

    RPF good on BBs?

Yeeah, I concede the point. But I doubt it would prove more useful than almost any other 4 point skill tho. Well, "Air Supremacy" exempted, of course... I wonder tho, there must be some poor sap who's actually taken it for a BB too (the AS)... We have a couple of fellows I suspect of being capable of doing that kinda thing in our Clan actually. Da*mn now you got me worried, I'm gonna have to check have to check it ASAP.

    RPF good on BBs?

BB hunting Missouri? Oh well, yeah, that might work somewhat... But you'd need hydro too, maybe working in tandem with a Kurfurst?
  9. RAHJAILARI

    RPF good on BBs?

Was thinking more along the lines of 4 point survivability skills such as AFT or Fire prevention actually.
  10. RAHJAILARI

    RPF good on BBs?

NAH! Useless, unless you plan to go actively DD hunting all the time. Though I did witness a New York trying to hunt down a Minekaze the other day. Most amusing and very high on humor value, but ultimately futile. Survivability is more important to a BB.

    Yūbari, yay or nay?

It's a fun ship to play. Especially if you max out the AA, which at that tier can really troll the CV's. Go ahead and enjoy.
  12. Oh yeah, you are right there @cracktrackflak. There are some videos made by Flamu and others, giving you tips on how best to utilize this skill to you advantage. But unfortunately I think it is not a very precise skill at all. It just gives you a sector and trying to fire torps based on it usually gives no hits. It is useful in some specific situations (typhoon, end-game chase and so on) and so quite limited in its general application. I would also suspect some RNG is definitely at play here (this is WG we are talking about after all). I use it for CL and DD, which I have specced for hunting DD (especially the border-hugging Yugumo's, Shimas and Asashios) but frankly I do think my cap skills might be more usefully distributed getting 2*2 point skills instead. Why have I taken it then? Oh well, I like to try different skills in my ships just to test them out and learn how they work and also, more importantly, how to work against them.

Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs

Well, that may happen of course. Just like the case where a shell will hit a DD from the bow lengthwise and travel the whole length of the ship. However, these cases are about the same as winning a lottery or being hit by a Meteorite or some such, so chances of any of that happening are easily already covered by the existing Detonation Mechanics. In fact that still gives it a way too HIGH a chance (2%) of destroying a DD outright. However I do not think it practical to base an entire game mechanic on such unlikely hypothetical occurrences and would rather prefer that AP produce overpens with minimal damage and HE will utterly demolish it, just as it should be and without undue complications. That's fair enough and anyways what's so difficult about changing ammo from time to time anyways? I play Cruiser nowadays myself and do it all the time, when the situation calls for it. I do not see any reason, why BB's could not occasionally do it too, if necessary. I mean, I see BB's spamming HE all the time for no reason at all anyways so this time it just would be for a good reason for a change and it's not like there is something actually preventing anyone from switching ammo to whatever is most effective in a given situation is there?
  14. Oh well, can never be sure about that mate. Had a game last night, where half of our team (4 BB's, 1 CA and a DD) fought hard to keep H1 untouched by the enemy while our base was getting overrun - This was on "Neighbors" map. They succeeded. Our heroes all survived with nearly full HP, the rest of us got wiped out. But I suspect they were actually trying to burrow a hole in the border and sail right into the next map, based on the way some were hugging it. When we asked for some assistance (at this point the situation could still have been salvaged). They just told us that nothing could be done about it. Apparently none of these fellers had ever heard about an ingenius device called "the Rudder" (what witchcraft is this?), which is rumored to have been equipped in all ships for a while now and may allow an occasional course change. Oh well obviously fake news then. Oh yeah, but that was off-topic wasn't it? Still just baffles me though. BUT on subject then. Yeah, I find this plan highly suspicious as well. But let's see the test results and such first before denouncing it outright. Perhaps some nerfed (non-camping inducing) version of this change might turn out OK?

Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs

Weel, according to historical battle records. The DD's did not show broadside until close enough to fire their torps, but approached the Japanese head on (as they needed to otherwise they would have never closed the distance quickly enough to survive the fire they were receiving) and weaved all the way there while taking dozens of hits. So quite a few must have hit them lengthwise, unless the shell made quite sudden 80 degree turns while in-flight. So yeah I rather suspect that must have been the case. Now, I'm not saying that AP should be wholly ineffective, but as it is it is quite ridiculous. So some change is clearly in order.

Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs

Well, during the battle of Leyte Gulf... Americans won quite spectacularly against overwhelming odds mainly because the IJN obstinately kept on using AP on those unarmored DD's and Light Carriers, which mostly over-penetrated quite harmlessly allowing the American DD's to get within torpedo range alive and score several hits. So there is factual reason to do so. Also due to this, while Yamato scored several AP hit on the Carriers, the same happened (only 1 Carrier was actually sunk though they were all in range and should have been dead by rights). So there is quite a good justification for it too. One simply should have the right shell for the job, that's all. Also, makes currently irrelevant "Expert Loader" skill great again (let's just call it MELGA, shall we?)!!
  17. It is nothing to fret about Lad. The best way to check and understand this better is to take this skill for one of your own captains and try it out. BUT meanwhile... It merely shows general direction of the nearest enemy ship. No distance, no direction of movement (though that is easy enough to deduce yourself. You see indicator going to your left, chances are that the ship is also). No ship type either, but in the beginning of the game AND if you see no-one it is usually safe to assume it is a DD. I have it for my German DD's. It is useful in knowing from which direction you can expect a threat to emerge and you can always fire some desultory torps that way to scare the blighter IF he is close enough. Especially useful if you are trying to track down an elusive DD, which has slipped behind your lines or during end-game, when searching fo that last surviving enemy ship. Can also be used to ascertain enemy DD's position, if he is just sitting in smoke in a cap circle in order to torp him there. Too expensive for its utility to my taste, should be 3 or 2 points skill rather than 4.

    Consumables and AA not working

Oh well, there goes that theory down the drain then...

    Rate of Fire

Well, one might also say that naval battles usually took hours if not days to develop so the time-frame is very condensed here (20 mins) and not always to scale. Gameplay priorities dictate the phase I guess. This is the same thing, as in map sizes and spotting ranges. After all REAL Yamatou could actually shoot up to 42 km away and the REAL Fusou could be spotted almost 40 (or more) km away, so there. We have to give allowances for these things, because doing them strictly realistically just would not work.

5 DDs again, and again, and again...

You did notice that there is an RN DD event going on at the moment? So of course there are going to be hordes of DD in the game. This is the same every time a new line is being introduced. No biggie. And in any case, if DD's bother you, then just play Cruiser and hunt them down to farm some sweet XP. No sweat at all. You see, the DD's are not the problem, the problem is that you are just in a wrong ship.

    Consumables and AA not working

You could also try mounting -> Auxiliary Armaments Modification 1 instead of the Main Armaments Mod 1 into the first upgrade slot. On your Hood, it should increase the survivability of those AA mounts by +100%.
  22. Should have seen that coming dude. What a horrible thing to say... Lost 7 karma this weekend for similar offenses tho (while making damn sure to be polite abboutttiit, but no halp, still got reported anyways - I swear next time I say noothing). Sigh! Some people never learn (and by that I mean US, mostly). My offences for the weekend were: 1) Saying: "Could we get 1 DD to C please?" When all our DD's were going lemming to B in "Neighbors" map. Response: "Shut up." and -1 karma. 2) Asking a CV player: "Start moving to C, full speed and please send planes to spot the DD so I can kill it?" When our right flank had collapsed and I briefly spotted a DD (supported by a couple of BB's trying to kill me since the DD kept me perma-spotted) heading behind us for an obvious CV kill. Which he eventually got because "I cannot spare any." I found this a tad strange, since he had a full fighter squadron just circling B cap most of the game on the "Northern Lights" old map version. maybe also out of fuel, since he did not attempt to move, even as I passed him under heavy fire from the chasing BB's. -1 karma, because it was my fault he got killed. 3) This is different. Got -2 karma for sinking 4 enemy ships. Because I am apparently a "Kill stealing Muslim pig, who does not really know how to play but only shoots at low HP ships." To my defence I scored 83K damage too and got 2nd in winning team so until this was revealed to me I had been under the erroneous impression that I'd done good (I'm glad that got sorted out). Also, I was previously unaware of having suddenly become a Muslim. Strange thing that. 4) Told a 2BB+CA division on "Trap" map not to go A but: "Please support B instead. You will just die there." because our 2 DD's were going B+C and would have needed the backup. They went ahead anyway, despite of the fact that we had already spotted at least 6 enemy ships heading to A + 1 DD we did not see, who torped both the BB's almost immediately. This was all my fault, because I spawned near A with them and "Did not support them." i was in a Mogami and went to support our DD at B (we capped it briefly but lost it later after their team got A and turned to B in forge, which was now indefensible). -3 karma. Oh well, I guess I''l have to do better next time eh?
  23. Ahhh, I realize that - Now...
  24. Hmmm, there IS such a thing as Arsenal nowadays... Methinks you might already be able to buy specific signals from there.
