Boring endless grind stages for Cossack

So why don't you? I never bother with any of the grinds and they don't bother me any either. I get it done, if ever chance will have it and if not it won't really matter. I will just keep playing, as I normally would regardless. There's no-one actually forcing you to do it except yourself. Of course, admittedly it does help that I already have nearly all the ships I wanted in the first place and so have no particular obsession of getting certain additional ships (like a Cossack, for example). I will probably get some new ones in time, but there's no hurry. I mean it's not like those ships are going to go away anywhere is it?

    Reasons behind "Roflstomps"

Was recently in a game, where someone in our team went throught th trouble of checking all the enemy player's WR at the beginning of the match, then informed us that we'll be sure to win because were all above 50% WR guys and most of the enemy were 40% WR guys.... We lost. My observation is that the most lopsided games usually happen, when we lose our DD's early and the enemy doesn't and it's all downhill from there. The second most common reason is IF one side has a competent CV player, while the other side is saddled with a bag of potatoes, but this is not the every time. Have also seen a few games, where ouCV simply sucked, got killed in the first minute and we still won, simply because the rest of the enemy team had no clue (even if their CV got krakens trying to carry the team). So I suspect that DD's and spotting advantage is the most crucial to start the landslide and things just get from bad to worse from there. Once friendly DD's have been eliminated and if the enemy is left with some, every Cruiser in friendly side will have their concealment advantage over BB's eliminated and will soon get insta-blapped by the enemy BB. Friendly BB in turn will get themselves ambushed by the enemy DD, due to being blind as bats and in case of CV game, it'll soon be left without allied protection and taken out, unless a miracle occurs. So yeah, my theory is that DD's are the key and after that the bad news just kinda snowballs out of control.
  4. Well, you'll get sh*tload of special camos and signals in addition to the Captain(s) / other main prizes. My guess is it depends, if you really want the feller and them perks or not. You be the one to decide. I have em' and have not regretted it.
  5. Yupp, one of my faves too. And now my turn then. Last weekend, this is how it went...: THAT MOMENT I KNEW ALL WAS LOST ! Map: Northern Lights Time played: 58 sec. Shots fired: 0 Enemies Spotted: 0 Tier 8-10 game, me in Mogami. Yeah, everyone from my flank went to "You-Know-Where" and left the rest of us facing nearly the entire enemy team with only 7 ships. The game begun ominously enough with our Kitakaze (displayed in sexy pink) and some of the others asking which enemy ships have radar (I broke my wow on silence on chatting and answered that, since no-one else seemed willing to: Cleveland, Baltimore and Donskoy) and so we all agreed that they should be prioritised first along with the enemy DD. Funnily enough all of them survived the game in relatively good health as did half of the enemy DD's (we did managed to get 2 of them at C). Anyways, my plan had originally been to support capping D, but alas that was not to be, so I went to support C instead. By some miracle we managed to cap it. Our Heroes got inexplicably held up by 2 enemy ships and camped behind those islands the entire game (and nope, they did NOT cap D). I escaped there myself after rest of the team inevitably got wiped out. Managed just 1 kill and our Gearing, who went to C got the other 2, rest of the team scored 0. By pure chance and 1000 points full I survived the game, none of the flankers did. Game over in 9 min 35 sec. NOT our finest hour. After 3 more similar experiences I decided I'm nowhere near drunk enough for this sh*t, packed it in and moved on to watch anime for the rest of the day.

Collaborative study of MM on Eu server

Innderesding data! Keep it coming. However, this particular finding is not necessarily so surprising, when you think that relatively often in tier 10 matches, you would have 5 BB, 5 DD and only 2 Cruisers. Therefore it would probably be necessary to include more bottom-tier DD's into the match to make up the numbers. However, now that they have made the "Softcap" of 4 DD's per team this will perhaps begin changing a bit. Of course, that still leaves the 5 BB's per team issue to be dealt with.

    So what's next?

Oh yeah, totally forgot those. Would like to see them also. Yupyups.
  8. RAHJAILARI

    So what's next?

Since I don't care much about paper ships or BB's in general etc... My personal preference would obviously be the Italian Cruisers or DD's, but I guess "Wait and See" is the only option here.
  9. Aaahhaaah! I was not aware of this, good to know then. Thankl you very much, Good Sir for enlightening me/us therewith.

Bad teams: what do you do about them?

Weel naturally, the very first thing to do in any game is to fervently pray that the enemy team is more incompetent than we are. If it works, we'll be fine. BUT just in case, the SECOND thing I do in every game is to observe carefully the team member's movement on minimap while driving slowly forward following my chosen DD (driving mostly Cruisers nowadays) to the nearest cap / combat zone of his choice. If it seems that all or most team members are making rational choices and supporting the people, that spawned near them I conclude that we may have a chance and fully commit to the charge with the DD (stay 5km behind it and shoot at any enemy DD he bumps into). If on the other hand it seems that our backup is abandoning us, I will inform the DD and recommend playing defensively (we just try to delay the enemy) and ultimately, follow the Lemmings if we must (shameful, as it is, sometimes there is no other choice). If the Lemmings follow us, then I usually make a U-turn to support the weaker flank instead and try to get someone to join me for a delaying action. This will very likely result in myself dying early (especially if there is an enemy DD there to keep me perma-spotted for their BB's), but if we manage to delay the enemy enough the Lemmings might have a chance to pull it off. Of course, whenever it starts looking that all is lost, then the only thing you can do is to just try to stay alive as long a s possible, hinder the enemy and try to make the best out of a bad situation In those occasions I usually try to join / keep together the other few survivors left to make a valiant, if futile last stand in hopes of scoring some maximizing my damage output before our inevitable demise while boisterously singing: "I Stand Alone" and having another beer. Once the inevitable has happened (so I got trounced), change ship and possibly tier, restock the bar-on-hand, then press "Play" again.

    In game economy

hey @pulpgamer_zdHmmm.... Just take it slower perhaps? I don't know what you're doing exactly but you must be doing something wrong there. I already have nearly all the ships I wanted and even some I did not and: I suffer from too much Credits. You don't need to have all the tier 10's immediately, you know - So just grind slower and you should be fine.

How do we help players like these?

Weeel, to be perfectly honest the first thought that came to my mind was euthanasia BUT that would probably be deemed excessive and radical. So putting all these uncivil solutions aside, I think we just may have to think of something completely different instead Hmmm.. Well, first of all this issue is probably due to too fast progression to tier 10. People can easily Free XP to tier 10 in any ship line and totally potato the games there - I know I did precisely that with Yamatou. But having successfully verified that i suck in BB's (and not only in Yamatou but all of them) however instead of euthanizing myself I just I went back to low tiers and began grinding DD's instead in hopes that it would fit my thus far rather questionable talents. It went much better for me this time around. So my guess is, that first requirement is recognition that it is not going too well at the moment and subsequent will to learn. There are too many people, who will by default blame the team every time a game is lost and often times these players are not the top players either (no shocker there). These people just cannot be helped before they've wised up. However, generally I feel that it might be useful, if the progression to higher tiers was a little slower in terms of XP earned. Free XP included and perhaps if premiums could be made "Unlockable" in the same way than other ships are? So that you will only be able to buy a tier 8 premium, once you have actually reached that tier with your regular "Silver" ships. This would ensure at the least SOME basic experience, how much would depend on how fast the progression is going to be. Of course tutorials and such will be helpful too and could be advertised after every lost match to the players in the losing team (perhaps triggered by their overall winrate being very low or something), but all this will guarantee nothing as people will still remain completely able to ignore all of those things. But I am hopeful it might at the least alleviate the problem a tad.

    How to play that Kiev?

Indeed IJN is always a better torp boat, but remember what I said about the amount of damage you need to do to a BB? It is easiest achieved with a few torpedo hits and Kiev does have quite decent torps, when upgraded. CE is always best for a DD (except perhaps Khaba), because it allows you to live longer and prosper. You will be able to get closer to cap zone, when assisting friendly DD's and therefore score more hits on enemy DD's, you will be able to get back to concealment quicker, when in a tight spot also (this is why I do not use AFT, even though I have a 19 point captain in Kiev). But once you get some more points from 10 -> 14, by all means take IFHE next, as it increases your damage to higher tier ships especially. However, please keep in mind that you will have to take ALL the advice we provide here with a pinch of salt. What we recommend here is based on each persons own experiences, which can be very different and do not represent any abstract "Ultimate Truth" in any matter. We all conf the captains and ships, as we like them and use them a bit differently. I personally prefer more flexible utility builds, so I will be able to use a ship in more ways than just one playstyle. It may not always be the best way to maximize the results but it works best for me. You can also go for the MINMAX-build like some have suggested, which will indeed make you strong in 1 role, but limit your utility in any other. You are the Captain of your ship and ultimately the choice is always yours to decide, which playstyle suits you best. You can only achieve the best results, if you adjust your ship to fit the playstyle you yourself enjoy most, no matter what anyone else says after all.

    How to play that Kiev?

Yeah, that's your mistake right there mate, shooting at the wrong target... If you had made that 36k damage shooting at enemy DD's instead you'd probably have been 2nd best in your team. You see, the raw damage in HP is not what counts but the % of any given ship's total HP, tou take away. So 36k HP loss in terms of enemy DD's would have probably scored you 1 kill + taken 80-90% of another DD's total HP therefore given you a significant XP bonus. To get to the same result when targeting a BB, you will need to score something like 80 - 150.000 HP damage in comparison, so rely on your torps for those targets more than guns. Also, consider taking the Demolition Expert skill to improve your fire chance & get rid of the AFT and take CE instead so you can better torp from stealth.
  16. Trying out a radar ship might actually be a good idea and improve your DD play @GudmundurG. You see, because it will allow you to see, why a radar is not necessarily the all-powerful super-weapony-thingy that secures victory. The trouble is, all radar ships a have a very particular playstyle and while good ships in their own right they are usually not as well rounded, as other Cruisers and of course, radar is practically useless against other Cruisers and BB's, while it does make you a priority target for any sensible enemy team. Quite on par with a DD, except that as a Cruiser, you are WAY bigger and so easier to hit and spot. So do not expect a bundle of immediate and free LOL's just yet. The good thing is, that you will definitely find out their weaknesses (short radar duration, no armor, can be spotted from far away, limited radar reloads and places to position yourself etc) and ultimately this knowledge will help you learn how to deal with them successfully in your DD and so help improve your game enjoyment, even if you later on decide you don't really like to play radars anymore. There are also threads here in the forum on the subject of how to deal with radars, when you are in a DD, might also be able to find tips in Youtube too. Check them out and have fun!

Top tier matches don't feel like ships anymore

I agree with the motion here @Viravandrel ships game should never be static, as that get boring right quick and sniping was never exactly a dominant feature of naval combat. Other stuff we could do here: 1) I agree, slow moving and stationary targets should be easier to hit. 1/4 speed, perhaps 1/2 speed too and fully stationary targets? Maybe give them an extra 2% chance of full HP detonation too. This could also be improved if we consider combat speed so that full accuracy (optimal dispersion) would be achieved at all speeds up to roughly 24 knots and ships going full speed would suffer a small penalty (as in real battles, "Combat Speed" was actually reduced exactly for this purpose). This would also serve to even the playing field for the slow BB's (which could now go at full speed all the time while not suffering any penalty). 2) Change the silly Citadel and Armor mechanism entirely. All Ships had their STRONGEST armor on the side, it was called the "Belt Armor" and therefore it should NOT be the only sure way to get a citadel hit but the exact reverse should be the case. Ship should be easier penetrated directly from the front and back and not from the side. That makes no sense at all. Strong frontal armor was a feature in tanks, not ships, where side armor was the thickest. It would massively improve the game, if it would actually reflect this reality. Also would allow one to actually shoot broadsides more often. 3) Well, done correctly and I suspect that introduction of submarines next year will massively reduce the campfest anyways, especially, if those slow subs will spwn near the enemy spawn zone to ensure they will make into battle in time. Pretty sure they will pick up any stragglers in no time. Hehehe!
  18. Yeah, US naval planning sucks, you'd totally have been toast, if I had just taken the Hipper instead. Oh well, next time then. BUT also lately I have seen many DD's "Doing the Akitsuki's" and trying to torp BB's from directly the front and of course missing every time, I mean they are so eager to fire them off they don't even seek a better firing angle to make sure that at leas some would hit. Well and of course the fact that our Akitsuki in this case seemed to think of himself as a torpedo boat and did not even use her guns. That was most baffling.
  19. Hehe! Was just telling the tale myself. Too bad the rest of the day went likewise for you too. Had a measly 50% WR yesterday and of course, lost all the games where I scored well and won those where I totally potato'd the lot. Figures, it was just one of those Mondays eh? The worst bit about this game actually was that I was the top scorer with 1 cap and a measly 28k damage done. Kinda makes you wonder what the effing was everyone else doing all the while?
  20. Was having a truly "Horrible Halloween" set of games in my Cleveland this Monday, when I bumped into our very own @Rusty_9 in his trusty NC on the Land of Fire map. It was one of those lopsided "It's all over in under 9 minutes" sorts of games and unfortunately, as my luck would have it I was one of the "9-minuters" in this game. Oh well, it all began inconspicuously enough, I headed for the A cap with intention to turn to B afterwards. Our Akizuki went for A, Z-46 for C and all was well for the next 30 seconds. Well, I radared an enemy Lightning at A cap and got some hits, few thousands of damage but he escaped (strangely enough it seemed like I was the only one shooting at it at the time so I should have already been expecting the worst after that). Our Z-46 met an enemy DD at C cap and got blapped by supporting enemy Cruisers (we both had 2 DD's per team). So we are down to Akitsuki then, who nearly managed to cap A, then got radared and escaped, following me to B cap, which we managed to cap after a small shootout with an enemy Seattle. So far, so good. However it is at this point that things began to get out of hand for our team. After capping I had started reversing out of B cap (having lost 70% of my health in the effort) and retreated into the smoke which our Akitsuki had very kindly provided and hoped to get far enough away to be able to make a full turn behind the island to make my escape. BUT ALAS! This was not to be, for there comes Rusty then! Charging like a raging bull (as evidence I attached a totally authentic screenshot of his charge below) right into our hard-earned B cap! Darnation! So I did the only thing one could have done with a Cleveland in a situation like this (staring down the barrel of an NC from 5km away) and looked for my lethal set of torpedoes to launch at this looming menace. Having found none (due to an inexplicable engineering error I seemed to have left them at port) I had to content myself with some desultory gunfire and hope that our supporting Richelieu, to whom Rusty was presenting a nice broadside would score some hits while our brave Akitsuki would presumably be able to torp him while I acted, as a distraction. What a brilliant plan! Unfortunately it just did not work. ALL of Akitruki's torps missed, due to him launching them, not towards the side of the ship, as conventional wisdom might dictate, but straight from the front so not one scored a hit on our lucky NC. The Richelieu then, well, he had temporarily gotten distracted and went towards the A cap for a while leaving us without support, then made an about turn and began retreating by reversing away from the cap zone, ignoring broadside Cruisers behind our Rusty and ineffectually firing a few shots on his bow, most of which either missed completely or did no or very little damage. We had somehow also lost additional 2 Cruisers at this point and it was now that our team at C cap decided to concentrate all efforts into securing the crucially critical point F10 behind the C cap for the Green team and they were right. No enemy ever got anywhere near it! WOHOU ! Thus having secured a certain victory for the home team they contented themselves in garrisoning the said vital choke point for the rest of the game, while our remaining BB's on the other end of the map secured equally strategic E1 and our Richelieu, now behind B cap evidently had to take a piss and having found all the ship's toilets already occupied promptly reverse-beached himself on a nearby island and leapt on shore - While he was conducting his business there, our vile @Rusty_9,the scalawag that he is, shamelessly and cruelly bombarded him to oblivion ending the game.

    Which Legendary Upgrade to Pursue?

Pick the ship you like and play the most and go with it would be my advise. Anything else would be a waste.
  22. Oh yeah, I read your post too, no worries, but on the whole I can't be a bit surprised. After all I once played in a same team with a feller who was serious in insisting that he had bee radar'd in a tier 3 match... Well there was an enemy Kuma right next to him on the other side of the island he was trying to camp behind (I know this for a fact, as i was shooting at it at the time) so I do have my suspicions but oh well, who am I to argue an obvious expert opinion right? And who knows, maybe he HAS figured out some mysterious craft by which means he could equip his Dallas with a radar? I wish he'd share the secret so I could get one for my Aoba too...
  23. Well, the icon that comes up on the screen when you have been a radared OR Hydo'd is exactly the same. This may have something to do with it. No need for a mod.

    Karma and enemy spite reporting

Oh yeah, that's why I'm not complaining either. The overall trend has been good for me. But then some other may take all this karma stuff lot more personally than they probably should. Weel, you know there are idiots in this game same as any other who'd rather see you throw a game by stupidly charging ahead instead of winning when you are clearly ahead in points. That cannot be helped I guess, but it is a clear indication that mankind as a whole is probably slowly regressing back to imbecility. But then again, no reason to take it so seriously, you are not actually losing anything because of that anyways and the occasional karma improvement after a good run is definitely an added though unpredictable bonus.

That is what I was wondering myself, but obviously the lad was right. Prolly all of that Muslim black magic and other totally unfair stuff. So, just because I'm a bad sport who can't take constructive criticism I promptly blacklisted him (well, since he had taken the trouble of sending me private message and everything).
