There was a Tier 8 MM change? When did that happen? Didn't even notice, oh well maybe ti'll come to me sometime later on... -
Yes... This is indeed a horrible thing. PANIC MEN! HIDE YOUR CHILD PORN ACCOUNTS AND DETAILS OF CONTACTS WITH A DANISH BESTIALITY RING, ERASE ALL EVIDENCE ABOUT YOUR CONTACTS WITH NIGERIAN PRINCES, EX-GENERALS WIDOWS AND COLOMBIAN COCAINE TRAFFICKERS YOU'VE BEEN SENDING MONEY TO! AIIIEEE!!!

Trying to understand what I am doing wrong in BBs
RAHJAILARI replied to HawkHunt's topic in General Discussion
He probably means that you have gone too high up the tier too fast to have fully learned all the what-cha-ma-callits of the game. Hehehe! No worries, i did it myself in the beginning too and also with Japanese BB's, go figure. It is the most common mistake people do and it usually nips you in the butt at tier 7 and upwards, when you increasingly often bump into people with several thousands of games under their belt and start getting decimated way too easily and early for anyone's comfort. Not to worry though, just take some of this stuff under consideration and it'll get better and if all else fails, looke me up on weekends, we can division up and I'll give you a few more tips to get started (of course, offer valid only as long, as I'm in the mood tho, because I am a fickle and untrustworthy man hehehe). -
Trying to understand what I am doing wrong in BBs
RAHJAILARI replied to HawkHunt's topic in General Discussion
All righty then @HawkHunt, tips then for this particular game. Well the others are right, your positioning IS terrible and prevents you from getting away though you still could have done so. You could have waited, until the big enemy ships have shot their salvos, then tried to rush behind the long, narrow island on your right side. When behind the cover of that island, use your heal and try to make your retreat by running away from the enemy. While running away, make sure you are angled a bit and "kite" => This means full speed and turning a little left and right at random intervals so you will be steering in a kind of a shallow "S"-line away from the enemy. Stop shooting, if you are some 15 km away so you can escape detection (of course, if their DD will tail you, this won't work because he will keep you permanently spotted no matter what you do, bad luck then, just keep on shooting) and keep going until you meet up with the rest of the team. Then you can start shooting again. As for your positioning here, do not go into a situation, where you are almost alone, facing several enemy ships. You are guaranteed to be the priority target for everyone, especially when in a BB because you cannot easily escape detection, even with CE skilled Captain. Observe, where the rest of your own team is going and keep with them, supporting your own front line Cruisers and DD's from a distance with your gunfire. DO NOT GET SEPARATED FROM THE OTHERS and if by accident this happens look for a way to get back to the team, unless it is absolutely sure you are only facing 1 enemy ship by yourself or perhaps 2 once you are Unicum player already and make sure that 1 ship ISN'T going to be a DD. The best way you could have positioned in this particular game would have been to proceed with the others to somewhere between A and B caps, then turn again towards C when the others do while making sure you are firing at the same targets than some of the others in your team are already shooting at, therefore making sure to take them down quickly (just like the enemy did to you in this game, but in reverse). Always make sure there is a Cruiser or a DD between you and the enemy, preferably both. They will spot for you and also ideally be able to spot any torpedoes coming your way.. It is always best to plan your course and firing position in advance, so you will have island cover available on either side to allow for your withdrawal (ideally both sides, of course). Islands with high mountains can block shellfire from their direction thus giving you protection from cross-fire, but keep an eye on the situation. Also make sure you have ships screening you, DD's and Cruisers, the more the merrier. Ships can move and an enemy may circle around your flank, so keep in the move yourself to avoid being caught unawares. Also remember, a reversing BB is slow and cumbersome. An ideal target for both gunfire and torpedoes, you will not last long if that is your only resort. Oh yeah and on this map, if you really had your heart set on supporting effort at C, you could bhave positioned yourself near the long large island between B and C caps, which also would have allowed you to duck behind it and turn away, if things get dicey. I probably forgot some stuff, but this ought to get you started anyways. Have fun! -
Please do something about tier 8 matchmaking
RAHJAILARI replied to Erik_Aukan's topic in General Discussion
It is pretty much the same +-2 Tier MM which all tier 5,6 and 7 ships also get. So I dunnoh about that lad. I just scored myself an almost full HP Montana with a Hipper in one-on-one encounter (sure, I died but after 10 torp hits, so did he = No complaints here) and I kinda like the sweet and generous extra XP bonuses I get just by being the bottom tier, don't need to do much heroics and still occasionally get to be the top team scorer and that is just fine as far as I am concerned (and I'm not even a Unicum player, so there - Anyone can do it).- 40 replies

Dude, such high levels of unpredictability and ineptitude simply cannot be programmed into any AI. In this respect, us humans still hold a clear and overwhelming lead. TAKE THAT SKYNET! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

HUZZAH! I just loove family reunions... -
Weel, that's not the end of the world, of course. BUT if you really would like to learn, then play in division with some friends, who are more experienced players - In low tiers (that's what they are for anyways). They will give you useful tips and help build up your self-confidence more than anything else can. Videos are nice, but ultimately you will learn best by experience. Also, just playing Coop will get old and boring real quickly and you'll never learn how to play against people in them. So get a couple of friends help you out and take the plunge, that is the best way to enjoy the game in the end.

So basically a BB crybaby calling out DD Crybabies who are calling him right back again? - WOAH! Oh well, all I can say about this is that this is probably going to be the most constructive and meaningful thread ever.

Thanks for the cool tip, but perhaps no thanks - With my stinking luck and godawful hearing any that kinda thing would only result in me missing all those incoming torpedo warnings with rather predictable consequences. -

That would be awesome! I could open a new re-roll account and change my playername to: "Papa Smurf" for free! -
Weeel, camping in a BB can sometimes be the wisest course of action (if you go in front of the Cruisers this also tends to ensure you get focused early on and this may not always be the best course of action but it really depends) - At first anyways, not all game. It saves your own HP for the critical strike, when the moment comes to act decisively. So occasionally it can be good and with some BB's like Yamato, for example. It is almost mandatory, since the ship itself was configured to be a pure long-range sniper. But a lot depends on what ship you are in at the time. You have to adjust your playstyle accordingly. Well, of course. RN BB's are good mid-range and possess a nuclear HE so they are indeed ideal in dealing with pushy DD's(HE) or Cruisers(AP), they do suffer somewhat against other BB though, but Zombie-heal and joining forces with other BB's from your team will ensure this will not be an issue. I have 2 regular "playmates" (no regrettably not the sexier kind) with whom we usually run a DD/CA/BB division (for better MM and mutual support). Our standard battle formation is like this: DD leads, CA follows 5-6km behind it and shoots whatever gets spotted (but enemy DD's first, so unless spotted hold you fire from that distance you should not get spotted before our DD sees the enemy DD which we are looking to kill), BB again comes some 3-6km behind the CA and targets the DD first, then any enemy Cruisers, we see (radar first). RN BB's are well suited for this due to their good concealment, since they can approach closer before being spotted. The idea of this system is, that we try to match both the CA and BB concealment distance to be at roughly the same distance, where our DD's is. So that when our DD gets spotted and also spots the enemy, our CA and BB are not yet spotted and get the first salvo in immediately hopefully killing the bugger instantly. After first salvo (or maybe already while firing it), our DD puffs smoke (but spot a bit while doing it) while CA/CL (usually me) will start maneuvering wildly to avoid getting insta-citadelled and so will have to either turn away or to steer behind a nearby island cover (if any available) and the BB should either start reversing a tad prior to an anticipated encounter or to steer towards nearby cover as well. At this stage the BB is still some 12-15 km away from the spotted enemy so the danger of getting torp'd is small. as said before DD will also release smoke instantly to provide some cover to duck / turn behind. We try to plan the route (and which direction to turn to) in advance depending on location(s) of nearby islands and anticipated enemy movement / positions. Of course, if we are dead wrong on the last one, we may well be truly fuc*ked too, but overall this has worked pretty well so far. We usually do get the enemy DD anyways. If the situation looks promising, I will join our DD in the cap circle with my Cruiser just to make sure it will be taken quickly and in case more enemy DD show up. Of course, when implementing this plan one has to take into account the individual ship's concealment ranges and adjust the distances between ships accordingly. German, RN and French BB's are in my opinion the most suitable for this type of direct capping support.

Naah! This is all too much of a Sausage Fest already man... Just leave it at that. This may all be a clever ploy to try and recruit more hot gamer chicks into WoWs I hope. -
My take on it would be... Nevermind the average Dmg for the time being (I know this is heresy but). It will improve once you've got the Win- and Survival rates higher. In a BB all this means basically to try and avoid getting focused early on while still positioning yourself so that you can be of most use to your team by supporting others at a critical point (capping, fire support by killing DD and Cruisers first). BB targets can wait, once enemy DD are dead and if your team has any, they will dominate the enemy BB's (since they are their hard counter) also target enemy Cruisers, since they are the counter to your own DD's. Once those 2 are dealt with your team will have no problem capping or defending, as the enemy will find it hard or impossible to push allowing your team the freedom of maneuver and ideally to overwhelm pick them out one-by-one. Always check which enemy your teammates are firing at and try to join in to take it down as quickly, as possible to reduce opposing team's firepower. Doing all this will improve winrate (albeit slowly, sigh), even if your avg damage is not very high this tells you, that at the least you have been focusing on the right targets / priorities in the game and increased survival rate just means that you get more opportunities to do more damage along the way. To better explain this... I've got a few fellows in my clan, who specialize in BB's, but to play with them in division would mean guaranteed loss nearly every time eventhough their avg damage is much higher than mine. This is mostly because those guys just start pounding the enemy BB's right from the beginning of the game until the end, only targeting a DD or a Cruiser occasionally and if they happen to pop-up right in front of them and even then not always (seen them shoot OVER a charging DD at 5km, choosing to try and hit an enemy BB 20km away instead - Then complaining when they got torped). So whatever you do, just don't be that guy and it'll be OK.
-
I always find that, the best results come whenever I get myself head first into a heckuva mess... So yeah, a certain amount of OCCASIONAL recklessness can be good for you - and then again sometimes it is definitely NOT, there's a fine line to tread there and only practice will help to judge the right moment to fully commit yourself. Even then it may fail tho, since these are mostly high reward = high risk situations. But you know, from time-to-time try to take the plunge and learn from it even if you get your donkey well and truly kicked. Hehehe! It really is the only way forward.
-
Well @BLUB__BLUB, if it makes you feel any better... I agree with the general opinion here, sometimes you're screwed in the first 60 seconds and nothing can be done about it, but never lose hope... Below my horrifying stats for the last few days (mostly solo play - Read from right to left and Yupp, this morning was just horrible)... Sometimes you get a free ride and the team carries you, sometime you carry, sometimes you get screwed for no reason at all and sometimes it is you, who potatod the game, recognize the last one and you can always improve on it. But yeah, for closer analysis, make sure your replays are active, watch them and see, if there's something you could have done better or post them here. I'm sure some of our Unicorns might be willing to part with some expert advise on how to improve.

player saying he reporting me for no reason
RAHJAILARI replied to despair_1's topic in General Discussion
Personally, If someone is out to get me reported, I just ignore the feller and return the favor - Except in cases where I actually had potatoed (like a TK or some such stupid thing) and completely *edit up, therefore well deserving it. In which case I'll just determine to swallow it without complaint. If it is someone in the team reporting someone else than me, it really depends. If there is reason to, then oh well, I never aspired to be a part of a lynching mob so I'll assume that the feller will eventually get reported by someone else anyways and just ignore the agitator's request to report someone else. However, if it seems to me that this reporting business is on quite shaky grounds or wholly baseless, like it often is. I will report all right BUT I will report the guy asking us to report someone else instead of his intended victim. You know, just because I'm an utter and complete *edit. -
So basically you plan to waitsee, if sheer irrational avarice manages to overcome your inclination towards frugality and sane reasoning? That is EXACTLY the same plan I have for a possible Printz Eugen B... Indeed, it will be most interesting to observe what really happens after insanity takes over. Risky though... With my luck I might wake up on Saturday morning with something completely different like a Mikasa B or some other utterly abominable piece of scheit in port (especially annoying, since I already got the original Mikasa pretty much the same way) - Again... M U S T remember N O T T O D R I N K next Friday or I'll surely be doomed...Well, tea perhaps but....
-
Hmmm, if a Printz Eugen B is a thing and in reasonable prices I might actually consider buying it, just because I do not have "the Prince" in the first place and was kinda planning to get it for X-Mas anyways but we'll see if my inherent miserliness will allow such a thing to happen.

Well Colorado is at the bottom of tier 7 BB's in average stats, so obviously it suffers. That is mostly due to its lack of speed, for which it has no compensating advantages to offer. It is the only slow 21 knot BB at a tier where all the others can achieve roughly 30 knots. So kinda like trying to chase around a Panzer III in a Matilda. You ain't gonna catch anything and do not even think about clever flanking moves because in this ship blitzkrieg just isn't happening. But oh well, lack of speed and certain deliberate aversion to nimbleness can be overcome - Otherwise is is a powerful ship. Of all tier 7 BB's quite a few of my Clamates have actually chosen to keep it (well, we are a potato Clan so that proves nothing, but just to say that if it fits your hand well, you will certainly do all right in her, no worries). As long as you know what you're getting into and play accordingly you'll probably do OK.
-
It is by far the tankiest Cruiser in her tier and because of that also my best torpedoboat, hehehe (oh yeah, makes a good AA ship also). But you're right she is a looker too.
-
Weel... Colorado is slow, of course, but aside of that it has good and accurate guns and in the right hands is quite deadly, as I have on many occasions found out much to my regret. But then again, in "wrong" hands, no ship does well anyways... On the whole US BB line is solid, no particularly bad ships, good AP, gun range and accuracy, reasonable armor and excellent AA. NON-gimmick reliant.
-
Because it's a bloody good ship? (for her tier, of course)
-
Nearly all of them - Mostly IJN, as it is what interests me the most. But also have some others to provide variety. I do not bother to specifically "grind" up the tiers, as such, in order to reach the questionable bliss of Tier 10, like many do, since I am only interested in historical ships, which I usually keep and therefore mostly stop "grinding" at tier 8 or 9 simply because the following ships would be pure "paper" and therefore of no interest to me. I do make it a point to play all ships I kept. I play this game because I am interested in warships of WW1 & 2 and also pre-Dreadnought era (which unfortunately is not included, I will have to find another game for that I guess), however I want to stay in historical scope in terms of ships, so I will stop at the end of WW2, so that's why I also did not get Worchester or Kutuzov either. Made a slight compromise with Des Moines though, as I wanted at least1 tier 10 Cruiser. and at the least she was laid down in 1945.
