I think technically Hood was a Battlecruiser for all of one day - the day she was laid down. As a result of the negative publicity the BCs got at Jutland she was redesignated as a Battleship. She is also one of the prettiest ships I've ever seen, beautifully balanced at least in her original form. One thing to remember about the Bismark is that she isn't actually a modern ship either. She is a cleaned up Bayern\Konig class design from 1916 - pretty similar to Hood. Her armour layout is heavier but still quite anachronistic - or rather her internal layout with most of the fire fighting and power facilities below a splinter deck but above the main armoured deck - this is common to the Scharnhorst Class too. End result is anything penetrating the splinter deck has a good chance of detonating on the armoured deck and scything through the power and fire fighting systems meaning the ship will quickly lose power to turrets and burn like a [edited]. Sound familiar?
