spits22, on 30 June 2013 - 02:53 PM, said: La Galissoniere class ,light cruisers , french. I got a list with at least 15 of my favorite ships designs of WW2, all nations .But these ones are simply stunning, MAGNIFICENT looking ships! She and her histers are definately among the top models, long forecastle ,triple mountings, low height superstructure, nice cut down at the stern and bow shape.. Heavy firepower ,9 x 6inch guns-(152mm L55, a really great gun) , 8x 90 mm L50 a very powerful heavy AA gun when the war begun , and 2 twin Torpedo tubes -i think but not sure ,with reload system, an innovation shared only with the Japanese navy-for the excellent 21,7" heavy weight torpedoes 23 DT model, in service since 1925, capable of very high performances (weight 2,068 kg, length 8.28 m, 310 kg TNT warhead, range 9,000 m/39 knots or 13,000 m/35 knots).Protection.. thicker armor than her rivals 105mm belt, some sources claim up to 120 mm -almost 5" thick! capable of bouncing every known by then light cruiser and destroyer shell , and good speed ,maintaning easily 31/32 kts ,during trials reports say speeds up to 35,5 kts and at the end of the war upgraded and heavily used at their maximum full load 10800tns they were still capable of reaching 32 kts easily..a true naval architect masterpiece which deserves some more attention. :honoring: ps:+1 to those who posted and preffered the Greek Navy "G.Averof" ship ,a pre WW1 Pisa class modified armored cruiser ,a true legend in the Aegean and Mediterranean sea.Really hope WG adds her even in a separate multi-nation tree. Thx for info :honoring: -

Gigaton, on 27 June 2013 - 04:11 PM, said: For those interested in the Imperial destroyers, Captain Hara's memoirs are currently in print as paperback (title is Japanese Destroyer Captain). Recently bought and read them myself and I regret I had not done so earlier. Hara was the man under which the other famous destroyer, Shigure, (specifically, as flagship of Hara's Destroyer Division (DesDiv) 27, nominally 4 ship strong unit which at times included only Shigure) reaped much of it's fame in 1943. Hara also participated in many of the same actions as Yukikaze, as skipper of another Kagerô class, Amatsukaze, at Java Sea, Midway and 1st of Guadalcanal and later as skipper of Yahagi in Yamato's (and Imperial Navy's) final sortie. Thx for info :medal:
