3 flag domination games, over too quickly?
arminofme replied to Remi_Drexel's topic in General Discussion
there are multiple reasons BB's like to stay at range and no.1 of those is because they are sluggish as hell so you cannot dodge fire as easily as a Cruiser or Destroyer. That means a BB spotted in open waters is mostly a dead BB because everyone will fire at you and you won't be able to dodge most of it. Any BB player learns that the hard way from the first matches. BB's are only lethal at close range if they have their guns aimed at the enemy and have the angle to shoot all the guns. That also means that the BB side is also exposed so it's easier for enemy to hit him. Cruisers might hit for less but they fire much faster than you, sure you can 1 shot him if he's stupid to come out facing your guns but if a cruiser slips on the opposite side the BB's guns are facing the BB will die before he turns his weapons. regarding OP's question, the mode is not THAT bad, however the multiple cap points kind of clutter the map (like the 4 cap points on the artic map .. no thx). the problem I have however is that the points accumulate way too fast and barely go down. If a side takes an advantage most likely than not that just snowballs too fast out of control and the game is over like 2-3 minutes after fist ship is spotted. For example I've seen games that ended with like .. 2-3 ships killed because teams were unbalanced and had very few fast ships to go towards the cap (especially on the 4 cap point map). If winning without firing any shells or torpedoes is what they want to achieve .. ok but I'd rather do something with my ship rather than just move to a point and .. that's it. I'd wish the total points needed would be higher .. like .. 2-3k instead of 1k and maybe the accumulation of points should be slower at first, gradually going up as time goes by but not by that much. -
the IJN DDs are have longer range torpedos but fire less of them. They have very poor main armament compared to the same tier USA DD so it is advisable to not get into a brawl with them and rely on careful prediction and usage of torpedoes mainly. The IJN DD(from tier 4 up) is suited for stealthy operations like taking down enemy BS from beyond spot range. Remaining undetected is very important so I'd say that Situational Awareness is best taken first in IJN DD. USA DDs have shorter range torpedo but they get some range from tier 8 upwards. However they have better Main Armament (better rof, turret tracking and numbers) and they have more torpedoes per salvo meaning if you get close and do a full torpedo broadside it's deadly. However in DD vs DD it only takes one good torpedo hit to kill or if you are lucky maybe 2 and the fact that you have to get so close to fire means you will have less time to react so it's much better to use your superior guns on the IJN DDs and well outplay the enemy USA DD because that's all up to skill. Overall USA DD is more suited for hunting enemy DD's rather than stealth missions. I'd suggest taking Smoke Screen before Situational Awareness in USA DD, because with a 5k Torpedo range you will be spotted before you get to use your torpedoes. Before tier 6 your AA guns are virtually nonexistent, however starting from tier 6 you should consider screening for your bigger ships in your team when you can. The reason I mention this is because while Aircrafts are not a direct damage threat to you(or should not be), they can keep you spotted and that will get you killed easily by long range Cruiser fire and there will be nothing you can do about it. Also keep in mind that you can also Smoke Screen your own allies to help them cross dangerous open waters portions.

you deserve to die because as you said yourself you were not "paying atention to the mini map other than to see what to avoid". no.1 rule of thumb for dodging torpedo bombers is turn into the direction they are coming to you. this won't save you but it will give you the best chance of dodging or buying time for your AA's; 1 or 2 torp hits is nothing compared to a full 6 torpedo salvo or even worse 2 salvo. so what that means if you did not see them coming for you, you are dead and it's your mistake. also .. just saying this is no different to doing a full salvo from a Fuso for 48k on a enemy Fuso at 18k distance in one (expertly placed)click. or 36k Kongo salvo on an enemy Battleship(don't remember which).
