Because ricochets can still occur on certain projectiles. Earlier, shorter APFSDS and training rounds, as you saw in that one impressive photo of a sideways impact. Also, using the very paper you used: Ballistics 18th International Symposium. Two volumes 1st Edition by William G. Reinecke (Editor) ISBN-13: 978-1566769013 Page 151 and 155 4 possible ricochet scenarios: small fragments from shattered shell large fragments from shattered shell shell missing the intended target shell losing its fins and tumbling So you see, right off the bat there's an issue with your reasoning, because you assume that ricochet means what you think it means, whereas engineers, mathematicians and physicists might actually mean that fragments of the broken shell are ricoching, not the whole shell itself.

The second picture was confirmed to be a training round. Steel and shorter, and an impact on a tank behind the intended target. As far as the first one... Want to see the rest of the picture? Gee, that looks like a penetration to me. And the second hit is showing exactly how a modern APFSDS doesn't ricochet: The bulging part of the roof was cleaved by an APFSDS shell that couldn't, geometrically speaking, go any deeper than that. That's as much of a ricochet as someone running a finger through soft ice cream could be considered their finger ricoching on the ice cream. If ricochets were still a thing, you would be seeing tanks with ridiculous amounts of angling, but almost no matter. Interestingly, this is where this all ties back to WoWS. Preventing APDSFS penetration is very much like preventing high caliber naval guns from penetrating. There's no armor angling that will save you, so you go for thickness, energy dissipation and shell destabilization. Something you will perfectly find in battleships via the use of decapping plates, main belts, angled splinter decks, etc... It's not about deflecting the projectile, it's all about making sure that it breaks or loses energy in the armor system, not the juicy insides.

And to further elaborate, long rod penetrators simply can't ricochet anymore because the force it would takes to make it deviate from it's path is to immense that the rod shatters before it moves. That's in fact the very reason DU penetrators are made to never exceed some 1600m/s . Anything more, and it shatters from the gratuitous amount of force being applied to, well, basically the entire cluster**** of a physical system. But by god, you'll never see it bounce or ricochet. High velocity ballistics are just ridiculous.

There's actually an interesting annecdote about that, where during the Iraq-Iran war, one Iranian Chieftain tank commander reported that he felt a masive impact on his tank, and when he popped his head out to check out what happened, he could see a glowing impact in the turret, with an APDS or APFSDS (it's not clear which as it's not certain what tank fired) lodged in there.

    Tier gap

Yes. It doesn't matter if you jump from guns that penetrate 600mm of armor and overmatch 19mm of armor to guns that penetrate 800mm and can overmatch 25mm of armor if the targets you're firing at all still have 19mm of bow armor and 100mm citadel plating. As for BB armor profile, you will find that you can citpen T10 BB (that don't have cheese mechanics) with a T5 BB, should he give you broadside.

    Tier gap

Your T5 BBs have upwards of 600mm of penetration, and you have over 300mm of combined armor on a New York. Cruisers jump from 76mm of armor to a whopping 100mm of armor at those tiers. This is going to sound blunt, but you need to git gud. Read some guides, look up some videos, that sort of thing.

    lol mode?

You know, sometimes I find myself being critical of myself. I have a stressful job, and come the Christmas rush, it may put a heavy bias on my views of mankind's intellect. After all, am I in my right mind to judge? Do I have a moral, philosophical right to compare my intellect to others? What does "stupid" mean anyways? Stupid compared to what? Are my own experiences obfuscating the glorious intellect of humanity? The trememdous achievements from sending a man to the moon. Or even the average person's ability to read, write and speak a complex pattern of characters while operating a high tech piece of electronics. Then someone like the OP says something and it all comes rushing back. Nope, the average person is ****ing retarded.

    Leipzig class cruiser?

Ruse and subterfuge are indeed part of a necromancer's grim arsenal... You could argue that I'm part of this test, BUT. May I point out your pseudoname. Clearly a subterfuge. You are not a bowl of chili dip, you are a bowl of lies and deception! And an entire country. Impressive feat. As such, one could accuse you of being in on it.

    Leipzig class cruiser?

Does that make you first to say it, or is it my post insinuating "necro" that counts? This is important. For science, of course.

How far back did you have to go to find this one and a half year old thread? But more importantly, why?

What has happend to the Missouri?

People claimed to feel exactly the opposite prior to the patch, in that particular regard. And people claiming that things still feel off after a hotfix to patch a bug in a next system that proved to be buggy? What a shock ! Honestly, I'd say more on the subject and you in general, but I'd have half the forum laughing, the other half telling me that I'm not allowed to use that type of language, and the mods chuckling as they hand me down a warning.

Funny, that was the same reaction you had when there was an armor bug a few weeks ago, was it not?

The Battleship Plague 2 - Broken by Design

Let's go take a look at the list of "Nerf torpedoes, nerf DD concealment" threads and see just how many 45% WR, 60%+ battles in BB potatoes we see, shall we? In any case, that has got to be the lamest, most idiotic thing I've read in a long time. A top EU clan wrote a report concerning supertesting clan battle format, and said without even batting an eye that it was clear that battleships were simply too strong or numerous, and clan battles simply couldn't be a free pick mode.

  19. Spotted @_Xaero_ manhandling a few people in a brawling Alsace while I shamelessly capped, torpedo'd an AFK and clearly newbie Iowa, then us winning the game roughly 5 seconds before I got a fresh reminder that the GZ has good secondaries and hydro, which would have been embarrassing.

ST Midway huge hangar capacity nerf criticised

Let's also pass on the fact that being concentrated on fewer squadrons means that more planes are being targeted by an AA aura at any given time. So it's slower and less survivable plane being even more shot at.

Feedback FOR WG about quality of gameplay...

I wouldn't even bother continuing, it's a pointless argument. One side understands that it's own perspective is far from ideal, not the healthiest, solves basically nothing, yet is perfectly normal and understandable. The other is sanctimonious and believes itself to be correct with no middle ground or compromise. The current "sunshine and rainbow PC" crowd has roughly the same level of conversation as religious fundamentalist who have a set of black and white morals by which they judge the world. Set of principle which I'm certain they break from time to time, making them hypocrite on top of judgy and sanctimonious. EDIT: Note the above answer, where he interestingly forgets that repetitively pasive play is against the rules. That doesn't fit into his black and white world, so it's dropped. But by god insults are against the rules, so that's super evil !

    Toxic text chat in game.

So I just left a battle where two top tier BBs (Lyons, of course) just went off to snipe max range with HE behind an island in a corner of a map. Both arriving 2nd and 3rd to last in xp, just above a poor guy in an Emerald who was probably citpenned by a school of fish at the start of the map or something. Now apparently, calling those people morons for basically losing the match is a big no no. Them sabotaging the match however, is fine. Do you know how I know that? Because "misbehavior in chat" report does something, but "plays poorly" does absolutely nothing. So there's that bottom line. Using a mean word someone can potentially read in a chat window makes me a toxic human being who needs to be severely punished, but wasting 10 people's time, and possibly even money via the use of flags is perfectly ok. No toxicity to the game there. No sir. We just have to accept "play 4 phun", but god have mercy on your soul if you use a combination of letters in the chat window that *gasp* offends someone ! PS: This is coming from someone who was never chat banned and who has more than 0 karma.
