Speaking of that and pipe dreams regarding dreams, being able to send gifs in chat would be downright hilarious. Everytime I'm in a T9 match in an Atlanta... -
A buddy of mine bought a Scharnhorst and still sucks. 0/10 would demand money back

There is absolutely nothing more to discuss with you because you are not entertaining the possibility for you to be wrong. Which you are. Mathematically. If two shells starting with the same velocity (840m/s vs 830m/s) have practically the same time to target, within a fraction of a second, the ballistics will be similar. In fact, looking at the ballistics curb on https://wowsft.com/arty , not only is the difference between the two guns' time to target basically equivalent at all ranges, within 0.2s at it's worst, and the angle at which the shells hit differs by only 1 degree. Thus, I maintain what I said, the ballistics are close enough to be called practically identical, the mechanical accuracy is remarkably similar, so you are resting your entire case on +0.2 sigma being the crucial difference between 8x431 guns being better than 12x380 guns. Anything else is purely confirmation bias, as proven by mathematical tools. So once again, if you prefer the République, good for you. However, you are mathematically wrong about the Alsace's unreliablity, and abolutely underselling it. The fact that you have to haggle for every detail to justify it (a T10 with large guns compared to a T9 with smaller guns ) being better is damn good proof that the Alsace's firepower is downright ferocious. I am done with this conversation, since I'm trying to respect your preferences while you are trying to ram your wrong data down my throat to try to convince me that the République is better, for which I have personal gameplay reasons to believe that it's not the case.
-
Disagree away, but anyone with a lick of sense can tell you that when you have bad mechanical accuracy, it's far better to count on many guns than only a few. You can make comparisons to other irrelevant things all you want, but when you have 2 guns with similar accuracy, having 12 of one is better than having 8 of the other. And the stats on the Alsace agree with me, tier for tier, it's outperforming its T9 brethren by a large margin while République is balanced, making the former objectively, tier for tier, the better ship. Which isn't exactly a surprise since the Alsace is simply and objectively more flexible. You can have your opinion all you want, bully for you, but you can't exactly hope to win me over with things like "She has much better accuracy" and "She has better shell behavior". Fun fact, République barely has more accuracy, and the shells are actually slower until 20km. In short, your view on the mechanical reliability are purely confirmation bias. But hey, again, if you prefer it, good for you. I'm not trying to tell you that you're wrong to like the Alsace, I'm telling you that your preconceived notions about the Alsace are selling her very short, and you're massively understating a few key aspect of the ship which makes her objectively more flexible. Things like significantly speed, agility and concealment, which only a fool would brush aside as not relevant.
-
The only thing I can say is agree to disagree. For me, the Alsace is a much more rounded ship, which more than makes up the inability to kill a DM bow tanking.
-
4 quad bofors mounts don't have the same AA aura as 20 quad bofors mount? DISGUSTINGLY UNBALANCED. BUFF BB TO COMPENSATE.
-
Well not really. The République loses too much salvo density to have bigger guns, which is a problem when you have bad accuracy. It's also bigger, slower, less agile and has worse acceleration and concealment. Pretty bad things for a ship with 32mm plating all over. The only reason the République has more average damage is that it also has more HP, which leads to longer battles, and longer battles is specifically what it needs. But as far as tier per tier is concerned, the Alsace is doing simply better, and that's because it's probably the best rounded BB in the game.
-
Same. If it were given a 28s base reload speed and a bit more hp, it would totally be a great T10. The République has points of interest, but the Alsace is just overall a much more solid ship. It's faster, more agile, better acceleration, has better burst damage (142k per salvo over 116k for the République), no worse DPM (285k for Alsace vs 290k for République) , better concealment, and can have 8 guns on target while at autobounce angles, better chances to actually hit because of 12 guns, and to top it all off, because of the lower caliber and lower shell weight, you tend to have less overpens on less armored targets.

The amount of guns and turret configuration may change, but the playstyle past the T3-5 slowpokes remaines similar: hit and run. You find a small group of enemies, engage them while getting closer, then disengage if things start getting too hairy or if you win. You have the speed for it, so you can often choose your own battles and retreat to always have a good supply of hp. Additionally, the armor works great for it since when well angled at ranges above 10km, you can manage to mitigate most if not all citpens, and a lot of regular pens. The T8 is an oddity since you're tempted to bow tank with it, but the hit and run gameplay culminates with the T9 Alsace, which is absolutely crushingly powerful when allowed to play that way. As a point of note, you should see good secondaries, and some people like to make them work. I think that it's a mistake. Secondaries work because you give them time to work. You don't want to give them time to work, because during that time, you're getting hammered with HE, and it quickly becomes a net lose for you. The captain skill requirement for a working secondary build is also incredibly hefty, needing 14 points just to get them firing quickly and at long range, leaving you with only 5 points for survival, something which you desperatly need on a ship prone to HE damage. Angle just enough to get people to stop using HE and start being tempted to use AP. Get in close enough that your mediocre DPM and awful accuracy is mitigated, but always with a retreat plan such as an island you can reverse behind. Never be the main tanky BB of a skirmish, aka always play with the team. Act like an oversized CA when fighting groups of enemy, and switch back to BB mode when you know you can completely bully the enemy. That playstyle is exactly the same as the Dunkek, with the added bonus of nothing short of the Yammie/Musashi being able to lolpen you though the bow.

battle cruisers Battle cruisers, will they be coming soon?
Exocet6951 replied to rooneyboi93's topic in General Discussion
Graf Spee's accuracy is awful, which makes the entire ship unreliable, frustrating, and whose only saving grace is the ability to heal and send very powerful torpedoes at great forward and rear angles. Calling the Graf Spee a good example of successfully implemented hybrid CA/BB gunnery is just wrong. It fails to be reliable against other cruisers, and lacks the actual punch to damage BBs reliably. It's everything wrong with hybrid CA/BBs on the "trash" end of that particular spectrum. If anything, it's furthering my point that with the current game, battlecruisers don't belong in cruiser slots. Make them tankier and be proper BBs, rather than making them either god-tier cruisers that brush aside all but the most specialized ships, or trash-tier cruisers that are nothing but novelty. -

perfect comeback coming from someone who couldn't even be bothered looking at a screenshot proving him very wrong. Unless you honestly think that AI TBs' natural patrol pattern includes going out of it's way to go around the A cap on Okinawa, exactly on the square I am. Disingenuous, condescending and contrarian on top of being demonstrably wrong. Ugly qualities in a person. -

And when we do show proof, you apparently don't even acknowledge it's existence. CF: You not even mentioning the fact that 94 knot TBs on a large map knew exactly where I was (obscure and pointless position) within a 4km air detection radius. But sure, I'll run more tests and make you eat crow. Not that you'll actually do it, as you'll either come up with a bad excuse to justify you own belief (because that's what it is, a belief.) or you'll just ignore it (like now) -
You'll find that they're often the biggest advocate of things like that, because they know the game and know what's completely unbalanced. But hey, try again.

Yes, the AI just happened to send the slowest planes in the game on a map it's not even supposed to be all the way to the side of a spawn on the extremity of said map. How completely disingenuous do you have to be to look at the last 3 screenshots I posted and say "No, pure luck" ? Partly true The bot will only attack you if you're spotted, that is true. It's easily observable while playing a DD and staying close to the enemy while unspotted. But it will send planes after you while unspotted. The screenshots I posted clearly shows the AI sending 94 knot planes to the side of A on Okinawa, making a beeline towards my exact position. No, because they still operate under the rule that they can only shoot you if you are spotted. Since smoke completely obfuscates your position, they wait above you until the smoke clears. You are mistaking the AI knowing your position and you being spotted. Those are two completely different things. I can look at the minimap, see an enemy ship disappear and see his last known position market to know where his position is, but that still doesn't mean that he's spotted. The fact of the matter is that enemy planes know where you are despite you being spotted. No amount of screenshots you post showing one squadron not going specifically to you position will change that. And to correlate to the other topic about the AI reacting to your torpedoes, if the AI knows where YOU are while unspotted, there's no reason it can't react to torpedoes that are unspotted, since they use the very same spotting and detection mechanics. The fact that you posted screenshots where one AI didn't doesn't change the fact that they demonstrably CAN. -

Picture for @ColonelPete 's amusement Me in an Aigle clearly not moving (/s) starting a training battle with a Langley, so I have the biggest head start: I'm planning on going A1, and first DBs spotted: Oddly enough they don't give chase. But then, first TBs spotted and blatantly giving chase to a DD going behind a pointless part of the map and into a corner I'm sure less than 0.1% of the server population has never been to: Clearly just a fluke. Routine bot patrol spot /s -

"Sit at spawn" I was moving parallel to the white line, and moving next to C, and you clearly see the planes heading towards me. But hey, it took a whole 1 post for you to go for the "see it didn't happen that one time so it never happens" argument. Disingenuous. -

He sent more. I just didn't bother taking a full match's worth of screenshots just for the purpose of a short proof of concept and giving you enough doubt to go test out yourself. So, try it out yourself. 5 minutes of work. -

Alright, let's put that to the test... TO THE TRAINING ROOM! setup: 10 minute Benson against CV Spawn: Where I'm heading: First enemy plane contact: Notice the plane still steering towards me despite me heading along the white line, having never been spotted nor having a good reason to be there: As always, good credibility. You keep on trying to prove people wrong despite being demonstrably wrong. It's only your second time today
