Here's a brilliant step by step plan how to do that: Turn it into a BB Buff bow armor and dispersion so it performs as a battlecruiser Tadaa !

Any chance a US version of the "Boise" will be available??
Exocet6951 replied to Yogibjoern's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry but his argument is "I've been around people who served in the ship who sank the ship from the navy in question, therefore I find it offensive to have that navy and even worse, that ship in game" What next? Complaining that Spain is in the game because you know a Condor legion veteran? It's doubly asinine considering that there's absolutely no problem having the Dunkerque or Bretagne in game, despite them having been shot at by British ships in "controversial" (which seems to be the British word for "Our action was clearly scummy, but we won't admit it") manner, or to bring the argument home, no problem having the USN in the game because the IJN attacked it at Pearl Harbor. The argument would at least make some ****ing sense if he were offended if the Belgrano sank the Conqueror, but the way he's presenting it is absolutely ridiculous, nonsensical, and downright illogical considering the history being quite a few ships in game and them having been fired at in even more "controversial" ways. -

To be honest, the only fix it needed was taller citadel. -

Not sure about any theories, but I did have one funny half salvo moment that springs to mind. I used the République's front turret to fire at an immobile broadside BB 8km away (forgot which one, but they're all pretty damn big at T8+). Two shells landed in front, two shells landed behind. That was quite interesting to witness. I honestly think that it has nothing to do with RNG or locking, but rather simply the servers crapping out again, showing us inaccurate info on our client compared to what's happening server side, making it much harder to correct our shots.

Feedback concerning BB rng spread in the current "HE matters" meta

[insert obligatory wiki snippet regarding the Prinz Eugen's HE hits on the Hood setting it on fire. Twice] On the last topic like that, someone posted first hand experience of a fire on a commercial ship he worked on, and how it burnt down. That post needs to be stickied. -

Two years ago, having 380mm guns on T6 was an exception. A year ago, it was rare. As of today, it's apparently underwhelming to have what's average. "I don't understand why WoWS has powercreep" starter pack. -

Over a year to wait for Italian cruisers because they want to milk branch releases over 2-3 patches now, and feel like Russian BBs need to go before a single [edited]branch of Italian ships? Boooooo ! This had better be wrong. -
Fun fact, there are as many Scharnhorsts as there are Fletchers and Gearings combined That particular type of ship of that particular nation certainly does attract a particular population...

It's absolutely not about overmatch, could you please stop using that as the end-all argument? Graf Spee is bad because those guns are hilariously oversized for that tier, where it has to shoot at tiny DDs, CLs with in places armor not even thick enough to activate the fuze, and its accuracy is pretty damn bad. On top of that, it's slow and only has 6 guns of those very unreliable guns. It has a LOT of issues which prevent it from being in any way good. It can be trolly, but it's not very good. Alaska in this current iteration would have none of that. It would be faster than average, 9 guns, better accuracy, firing at larger ships, have improved ricochet angles, in all likely hood shells with better energy retention, better armor compared to that tier's cruiser average, and let we forget, a radar. All those things add up. Quite a lot. If the ship has too poor accuracy, it will be an utter waste of time. If it has too much accuracy, a blapping monster. This "no in-between" that comes with being a cruiser with BB guns make it inherently difficult to balance, perhaps even impossible to do so, so you'll excuse me if I don't jump around in joy because an unbalanced group of pixels associated with a name I like is going to be shoehorned implemented. Because that's the entire crux of the issue ! If it has crap dispersion, what's the bloody point of that ship? An RNG slot machine where once in a blue moon, you get a triple citpen? If it has good dispersion, then what's the bloody point of another ship that relies on more damage over time, if the Alaska can do in one salvo what it takes another ship two salvoes to do, on top of having more armor and HP...and a radar! -

Well, seeing what happens to ships when Graf Spee's guns actually cooperate, that's actually a genuine concern. And mind you, that's at T6 where cruiser guns are balanced to function at max ranges of 14km. On T9 on guns made to function at much longer ranges? Ouch. 9x8900 alpha is going to absolutely crush enemy non-BB ships. It's 12.5% more potential burst damage than a Hindenburg, with 12 very very high damaging guns, and these things are going to be shooting at T7s and T8s. If that were on a BB, I would say fair game. It's a battleship, it's going to trade quite a bit for that firepower. But this is a cruiser. It's a 6th BB salvo you have to watch out for, one that can manifest itself from 13km away, and to which you need a quasi-bow on angling to even dream of bouncing. And I say 6th in the best of scenario where there's only one. It can easily be 7 or 8. To add insult to injury, it's going to have a radar as well. It's all starts to add up after a while, and the end result looks absolutely unappealing to anyone that's not frothing at the mouth in anticipation to use her. -

Yeah, because BBs are totally not the most played ships since the release of German BBs.... As little an argument a yours. We already have plenty of examples where very modern ships are at tiers with much older ships: CF Chapayev at teh same tier as Mogami. BC is a meaningless term. CB even more meaningless. I can argue that placing a large cruiser at higher tier breaks the game vastly more than a large cruiser as a lower tier BB, where its guns, armor and turn radius will be much closer to BBs than high tier CAs. No, that's 3 years of observation and plenty of server stats AND the developers' words on the matter. -
And the BB only has to press a a movement key in order to completely negate all damage, nevermind the fact that a DD has to go through a gauntlet of hydro, planes and radars to get there. By the way, since it hasn't gone through you thick skull just yet: no one said AP should do no damage. People just don't want regular penetrations on DDs, but rather only automatic overpens, WHICH IS STILL MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT A DD CAN DO TO A BB. And congrats, you just realized that DDs should counter BBs, because that's how it's designed. I know that it doesn't seem that way, thanks to 3 years of players like you, but I assure you that your precious BBs are supposed to be countered, and are not supposed to be a bigger threat to its own counter than the class of ship it's supposed to counter.

That's going to work in the exact opposite manner in which you think it will. It won't be more BB players trying a T9 "cruiser", it will be more players adding a 6th (at least) "pseudo BB" to every battle. Remind me how old the Dunkerque (in service in 1937) is compared to, say...Ashitaka? Tier isn't about history. It's better when it all fits, but balance > history PS: Most modern ship in the game? She was laid down in 1941 and commissioned in 1944... No, but instead of having 5 BBs per side per game, now we'll have 5 BBs per game + how every many BBs Alaskas and Stalingrads there are in the team. -

> Emile Bertin EDIT: No but seriously, I like the Alaska, and would like it ingame. But not as a high tier cruiser, that's just BEGGING to have everyone slinging HE at long range like the Hindenburg and DM are now doing for fear of having to deal with yet another instant blap threat. -

Depending on the accuracy, either trash or ridiculously strong. In any case, getting citpenned from over an island 16km away by a concealed ship for almost 9k per shell while highly angled with radar to boot totally won't get old at all /s Everyone likes a good cruiser or DD blap in a single salvo from a 6th player in the match up. /S -
Good memes. Adding a 20k silver (max) camo to your ship to make it harder to hit and more concealed makes you trading cash for skills, despite it being dirt cheap and available to everyone with half a brain, even the max range white line BBaby. Hey guys, I'm trading cash for skillz by shooting shells at the enemy, which grants me XP and silver, despite it costing silver ! Filthy P2W scrub that I am. SICK FILTH BANNABLE OFFENSE.

I know some people (French clans) who might disagree, considering the HIV and République to be top picks, but I suspect some national pride at work since neither have good instantaneous impact nor ability to remain in the fight despite being focused, like a Hindenburger can for example. Overall, I think the Alsace needed a tweak. Despite loving the hell out of it, it also felt just too damn mobile. I thought they would change that a bit. But nope, they went the usual WG way and decided that firing more slowly with more luck based gameplay was the way to go. Stupid. As said above, her strength wasn't to cleave through bow tanking cruisers, but being fast enough to appear on the flanks and deal massive damage with a very heavy salvo, possibly with a follow-up salvo 26s seconds (or less, with AR kicked in). And by god, how that worked, regardless of the target. The perfect example that you don't need all the overmatch in the world in order to perform, if you can work the map. Something that might not have a place in competitive, but works extremely well in randoms. Not sure why they made that less reliable and more luck based, when a small concealment or slight mobility nerf would have prevented that from being just too damn strong. Maybe even turret rotation nerf to prevent it from reacting too quickly. [year old anti-Lyon crusade intensifies] Almost as bad of a game design as RN BBs. Pure luck based garbage used to grief.

A word on third person camera aiming and BB brawls
Exocet6951 replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
Add to that the fact that at close ranges, sometimes the target locking just...stops for a fraction of a second and you have a very frustrating experience in CQC brawls, where there winner tends to be the one that manages to cheese the system the most, while having the least technical issues. RIP my ship that one time my back turret decided to snap to the other side of my superstructure for no reason. RIP. -

This. Quite frankly, Nassau and Kaiser are absolutely ridiculous. Put any T3 cruiser against them, and they're doing close to literally no damage. T3 cruisers being the step everyone has to take to playing anything other than DDs. Is it any surprise that people see unstoppable monsters like that and either stop playing or decide "yes, I'm playing those instead" -
