I had the very same conversation on reddit. Apparently, the Gneisenau (and German BBs in general) is terrible because of a 30mm deck, vastly longer than other T7 BBs, more upper deck armor which is a huge weakness, the least accurate guns, barely more mobile and with an enormous turn radius. Now when you translate that from Wehraboo trash that needs to git gud into reality, Gneisenau has 50mm deck with autobounce bow, is 10m longer than a KGV (aka same damn thing), resists HE like a boss, has rather average accuracy, especially when you consider things like the Lyon or KGV, goes 4 knots faster than the runner up in speed, and has a similar turn radius compared to other fast BBs, but does it in less time thanks to a 32 knot top speed and speed bleed that bleeds off excess speed to be in the turn radius sweet spot. Remember, when dealing with players using mainly German vehicles in WWII based games, ignore over 90% of what they say. It's nonsensical trash where strengths are either ignored or turned into weaknesses, weaknesses massively overblown and competing nations' vehicles' strengths are overblown to the point of claiming that vehicles with below average accuracy and completely average shell velocity are "lasers".

True, but it's not competition that made wowp unsuccessful, especially since war thunder was still only in planes back then, it's just terrible gameplay and controls. Not MM, not competition, just an unenjoyable experience. And if you're looking at said competition, and calling it better, I invite you to look at their version of matchmaking. That's some hilarity right there. It would make you beg to be in an Omaha facing a Gneisenau.

Well I can tell you as someone who has played in alpha testing phases of WoWP, WoWS, and closed beta of WoT: WoWP had garbage control and dull gameplay. It got better over the years, but the initial impression of clunky controls that felt as if you were on rails on top of low tier gameplay having been turning in circles until you hit someone for 20seconds worth of gunfire to bring him down, in no small part due to the crap controls, never left. On the flip side, first impressions of WoT and WoWS were much better. Well maybe not WoT. First battle was me in an MS-1 (FT-17) against an IS-7 so..... But mechanically, both were good. WoWP was not. MM had nothing to do with it, at least not the +/-2 part. You can argue class balance in relations to 5 ships of a class that shall not be named at low tier, but that's a balance problem, not an MM one.

Or the game just conks out and awards you citadels you clearly and mathematically shouldn't have gotten. CF: Citpenning Montana with Neptune/Minotaur AP. Rare, but not to the point of being a once in a lifetime thing.

Oh it won't be free xp. But the Jean Bart will probably be. The question is why have the T9 Jean Bart when you can have a more solid, better armed ship as a T10 premium of the same class and similar game play? I'd wait on spending anything for the time being.

There's also the question of the Bourgogne. If you have both coal and free XP lying around, might as well get the T10 Bourgogne (if it's for coal and not steel) and keep the free XP for something not completely redundant. They released her while dropping hints about the Alaska, and not too long after the Jean Bart. I suspect that based on that, the Kron's sales aren't going to be the best.

And after implementing it, and seeing the complete fundamental inability to balance her decently, WG said no more. It's why the Turenne is heavily, heavily refitted in order to fit as a T3. It's a shame, but that's how it is. The lack of multi caliber gun control dooms pre-dreads.

Can we get off the topic of personal stats? It's really non-constructive. The Emerald is just terrible. The armor is woeful, the citadel enormous and able to get penetrated by 120mm HE, the guns anemic, and she doesn't even have the decency to be that maneuverable, all things considered. Her only saving grace is the fact that her torpedoes hurt and she has smoke.

It's really not, and my example is one of the many reasons why being called "average" on this game is downright insulting.

Haha, cruisers plunging shells through 50mm deck. The **** you read on the forums. All you need to know about BBs currently is that perfect example of a player I just met who used a COlorado to park himself on a cap already capped as far back from the enemy, proudly announcing that he was useful because he was doing 4.2k damage salvoes. This player plays 92% of his battles as USN BBs, and is currently a 49.5% player. ie: average. The average BB player is content with 3 overpens, and an average damage of 10 salvoes of 3 overpens each, obviously from as far back as possible. Wouldn't want to get the paint of the 356mm main belt dirty.

Well the AP is certainly a deterrent, especially to the fat Gearing and YY. I suppose that those two still manage to keep a more univeral and multipurpose aspect, all the while including a more teamplay oriented smoke. I can definitely see good clans in CB prefering the Gearing/YY, but in ranked? Z-52 is feeling right at home for me for the moment. Plenty of potatoes to be farmed with AP and quick reloading torpedoes.

How do you figure? It might be lacking in torpedo damage and is a bit unwieldy when you really need to maneuver it tight spaces, but I find that it has good flexibility and the hydro gives it great DD bullying ability, on top of being faster than the average. Not to say that the Gearing or YY are bad choices, but the 52 being one?

Over a year ago, WG admitted that BBs lived too long and were too numerous. Now we have cruisers that act like mini BBs, and BBs that act like oversized CAs. You have top clans reporting to WG that BBs are too powerful and numerous, level headed and objective forumites (unlike myself) are saying it as well, and a piss poor player retention just at the tiers where BBs are getting absolutely, crushingly overwhelming to new players (T4 and T5) showing something very similar as well. So no, I don't miss an opportunity to point out that despite everyone knowing and admitting that there's a problem, the best thing WG has found to solve this issue is lower citadels on BBs, give them 32mm plating and give a few ships 1/4th HE pen. That's the grand solution. Unimpressed, and I don't mind saying it. And considering that's the second time you've criticized me for having an opinion of my own, perhaps you should look at yourself with a bit of self-criticism. *edit
