Interaction of large-caliber AP shells with DDs

Do you often barge into a conversation with hilarious wrong and downright contradictory facts, then wonder why you aren't being taken seriously as you proceed to condescendingly call everyone witless children? -
Objection against participant choice of CV "Beta Test"
Exocet6951 replied to KarmaQU_EU's topic in General Discussion
Also, that way there are more semi-intelligent enemies. Not just people who sail in a straight line, ignore planes, and only react to torpedo warnings (poorly), then complain that CVs OP. It makes sense. A class is being fundamentally reworked. What's the point in having a preliminary test to get feedback on the changes from people who have not, or barely played a class? And keep in mind, I've played less than 200 CV games in 3 years, so the net was cast very widely. Yesterday, someone in a T9 DD called someone a hacker for spotting him in smoke. That someone had a radar. I value AI bots over the average player, that's for sure. From the very link you sent: It's all sorts of CV players, from the unicums playing exclusively CVs to the CV scrub with 2% of his battles in CV like me. From what I gather, the people chosen were the people who have actually played CV more than once, accidentally. Graf Zep says hi. The opinion of all players, including those who are intrinsically against CVs as a concept, is not helpful. I don't care about my mailman's opinion on medical matters, and I don't care about my doctor's opinion on the benefits of X type of letter over Y. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwSts2s4ba4 Are you seriously arguing that things like the Graf Zep, Belfast, German/RN BBs, etc...were designed with the hardcore player in mind, rather than the casual player who can hop into one of those machines, have a good time and feel the desire to spend money on the game? Perhaps for once they'll actually listen to the advice given from people who know what they're talking about, rather than people who know nothing, act like they do, then complain about the result anyway despite being at fault for the mess it created. CF: Graf Zep. Best possible example of listening to everyone except the people who know what they're talking about. Sounds to me like they're saving up on server bills and getting a chance to improve the game. Win win. EDIT: Point in case, here's someone you wanted to invite on the CV test server: Do you think his input would have been constructive? -

I take the time to read the forum every day, and have been for the past 3 years. Perhaps you should take a big bite out of a humble pie and accept that your opinion is most certainly not objective, factual, or even correct. And if you want to talk about bringing shame to the forum (lul), perhaps you should try with your own post where, with only very little (and very poor) experience in a class, you brandish 1/4th of the ships in the game as OP simply because they counter the class of ship you OVERWHELMINGLY play. I would be legitimately ashamed to do that, even on an internet forum. -

*cough* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance "DDs are kings, the game is going down with OP things left and right" Also you: being one of the major problems with the game and cherry on top of the cake being downright hilariously bad at something you claim is ludicrously OP. FYI: Players like you are the exact reason that CVs are being reworked into pure damage dealers, and ships like the Wooster an Harugumo and being implemented while BBs are getting citadels more and more protected by being more and more often submerged to the point of having nothing above water. You want a reason the game is more frustrating? Look in a mirror buddy. -

Ah, pley2phun excuse. Hey, tell me though, if DDs are such unstoppable kings, why is it that you deal less than a 10th of a single BB's effective HP per match in them? As always: "Dear game devs, Rock OP, paper is fine. Signed, Scissors" -

1.6K battles played, 46% WR, over 75% of his battles in BBs, 51 battles in low to mid tier DDs which can be described by the word "catastrophe" I have literally never been less surprised in my life. But remember guys, DDs are such "Kings of the Sea" that this gentleman is averaging an amazing 7k average damage on his most played DD, the Fubuki. That's almost one half torpedo per match ! Hail to the king, baby. -
Same, just so I can see if I can start a "Buff my waifu Atlanta" thread

It literally just happened to me just now in a sleek IJN DD, which lost 66% of its total HP in 3 hits from a Yammy, and just prior to that I did it to some poor bastard in a Grozo who got caught mid maneuver and lost 10k hp. Hardly common? I see it basically every single match, either done on me, or me witnessing it. Something you would see if you had played more than 100 games of T7, and 31 games at T8, which already constitutes a good third of your DD experience, everything else being lower tier, and less susceptible to more accurate, higher tier BB fire. -

Ineffective? You're still removing 7 to 10% of a DD's hp per overpen. On most DDs, it's none repairable. That's similar numbers to every single hit on a CA being a regular pen, for reference. That's hardly ineffective, especially when doing that on a ship that counters you. -

Thinking that I should not get hit? See this is why discussing things with the likes of you and other other die hard defending regular pens on DDs is impossible. You take the sentence "not receiving regular pens" and turn it into "SO YOU WANT TO BE INVULNERABLE?!" No. Stupid. Come back when you read other people's posts and stop trying to cram your own arguments into our mouths and effectively stop debating with yourself. -

Oh no, a counter class won't be countered by the very thing it's supposed to counter as much anymore, how terrible! "Dear game dev, Rock OP, paper is fine. Signed, Scissors" -

I got blaped in a Z-52 because I had the audacity to be within 16km of a Yamato and 11.7km away from a Moskva hidden behind an island that had never been spotted. What you just said was essentially the "Overconfident" meme with extra words. -

Probably because of Nassau's 283mm guns. They don't want to have one BB (especially the starting BB of hte most played BB branches) being able to regular pen DDs. It sets false precedents. That's still 170 quite a lot. Imagine the Minotaur... As I said, I have no way of seeing the ramifications and consequences as of yet so it might be limited, but the potential of spamming someone's main belt to death with some of the small AP rounds in the game just because it has a torpedo bulge is something I don't particularly welcome. If nothing comes of it, alright why not. If it turns out that it's a game changer, then it's another move into the "who has the most DPM wins" race we seem to be in currently, which I'm not a big fan of. -

Oh jesus....Death by Harugumo spamming AP at a torpedo bulge.... I'm torn on this one. Waiting to see the fallout before I decide what I feel about it. -

"It's just a new branch of battleships/radar cruiser, it'll pass. Stop whining" Apparently that only selectively applies. PS: If you're getting rekt by Acasta and Icaruses and their torpedoes, I have bad news for you.... -
High tier French BB guns and their accuracy
Exocet6951 replied to Blixies's topic in General Discussion
Well now, I'm sure using the posts' context would help. Surely you could see why adding 50% of extra firepower would make it go from not as good to very solid, rather than talking about individual rifles of the exact same model. -

Richelieu has 8 guns, Alsace 12. 4 more shells to play roulette with. It's the simple law of numbers, not a change in ballistics. While Richelieu can have trouble hitting, 4 extra shells is the difference between 1.2k (ish) damage on a single overpen, and two overpens plus a regular pen. -

Sustained damaged meaning fast reload, so you can get in two salvoes in a juicy target where another might only fire once. Along with easy to use ballistics, and if you're in a good position, you can really start racking up damage consistently. Don't get me wrong, I'm more of an Alsace fan myself, I believe that the Répu is a bit odd an not as reliable when you need instant burst. Advantages over the Montana though? Faster, more reliable, longer range AA, 30mm overmatch (T10 cruiser decks) and good shell velocity. Oh, and thicker armor. You lose plating, but you gain a HUGE resistance to citpens. And I really mean huge. It's also surprisingly nimble. Stats tend to paint a very poor portrait. It's not a ship for everyone, but as far as ballistics are concerned, Répu and Alsace are very solid. Richelieu a bit worse, but it makes up with tankiness. -
High tier French BB guns and their accuracy
Exocet6951 replied to Blixies's topic in General Discussion
Nope. Not even remotely. République gets its damage from sustained damage, not from highly accurate bursts of damage via citpens. That being said, when RNGesus is with you, you deal pretty huge damage. Accuracy is a problem, but the French 380mm are the second best in the game, and even that's debatable since the Italian 381mm is only a 15-20mm of penetration above the French 380s past 15km, and loses out in terms of dispersion. The Richelieu is very meh in terms of firepower, but it manages to perform thanks to huge survivability against AP against other BBs, so you can have those 380mm guns singing for a while. Alsace does the same, but with more guns and less reliance on the bow itself, but rather more with the thickness of the armor and nimbleness of the rudder to get in and out of autobounce in order to use that rear turret. You won't be sniping much, nor citpenning Yamatos at 26km, but French 380s and 431s are accurate enough to get the job done, and the 380s hit much harder than what you expect them to do. Keep in mind that the only other common ships with 380s are the lower velocity British 381s and the artificially nerfed German 380s with their poorer penetration. -
Hindenburg Nerf - An conceptual failure
Exocet6951 replied to mariouus's topic in General Discussion
I don't want to sound rude, can you re read my comment? "made to have weak he" It had (past tense) the weakest 203mm he round in the game. Getting 1/4th pen was a band-aid fix to get it to spam HE more effectively, one I have highly disagreed with since it was announced. Its HE is still very weak, but now it has free IFHE deluxe edition that allows it to spam German BBs to death. -
Funny, my better half tells me something similar relatively often

Exocet6951 replied to mariouus's topic in General Discussion
"just give it improved ricochet angles" is becoming the new "just give it 1/4 HE pen" Changes like these have to be made carefully, as it's something integral to the ship, rather than a last minute fix hoping that it'll fix the ship's problems. -
Alaska's in-game 3rd deck (citadel roof) is too low by about 2.7 ft (0.8 m)
Exocet6951 replied to puxflacet's topic in General Discussion
You're actually surprised? I mean, you've been demanding the Alaska for a while now, dead-set on it being a cruiser. Now WG has to find crappy solutions in order to make that viable, which includes turning the citadel in a submarine. It's just like the CV rework: people have been demanding things that go exactly in the way of damage farming with no more scouting, then are surprised when WG turns CV into damage farming machines with no more scouting ability. You sort of made your own bed there. -
Should I stop grinding germans and go for Rn BBs?

What are you talking about? The Bretagne is the best T3 Battleship in the game!
