I had great fun showing others that the Yamato in full assault mode is hellah fun, and usin it to snipe from 20km is a waste of time. Also, the Senjo. I thought it would be bad, but even if its torps are not very useful, and it doesn't have as much firepower as the Des Moines, it clicked for me. One thing that greatly disappointed me was the Des Moines' AA. Yeah it has great range, yeah you do damage, but I don't know, it just doesn't feel as good as all hell unleashing on planes as soon as they enter a 3.5km zone of death.
-
Senjo's 8km torpedoes are indeed rather pointless, but I found its 203s more reliable are doing damage per salvo than the Des Moines. I think the shells are faster and feel more accurate. Then again, the Des Moines fires roughly 3 times more shells per minute (extra turret and RoF). We'll just see what the devs have in mind.

It's just a question of having decent armor models and cut-down on the citadel hits. That alone would breath some life into post-Mogami IJN cruisers, and help the Pensacola and New Orleans immensely.

Thanks for pointing out the Atlanta's turret problem. I was myself making notes on premium ships, in case I one day decide to get a high tier one. Atlanta was top dog on the list, for the lulz of many small pew pew turrets. Now? I guess I'll have to wait and see. Maybe a Russian ship, their 130mm gun on the Gremyashchi is making me optimistic.

Consolidated TBY Sea Wolf damage per torp (US tier VII (2nd TB) - VIII (1st TB))
Exocet6951 replied to Figment's topic in Archive
I think it's just a placeholder until they can model high velocity drop torpedoes, and the option of having lower damage torps that are deployed quickly, or higher damaging torps with the current (slower) TB drop pattern. Pure speculation though. -
Which of the 3 pre-order premiums would you reccomend most?
Exocet6951 replied to ARRothe's topic in General Discussion
I don't know why people keep repeating that... The pre-order tanks on WoT were never nerfed. If anything, the A-32 had a slight HEAT buff, pz4/5 got additional spaced armor and gun depression buff (when facing the side) and the M6Asomethingsomething will have its armor increased when its HD model is released.. -
To answer why they did that mode, read this vv And now imagine that they could have done it with tier1 unique ships, but they did it with reskinned tierX ships...so they could see how people would act with tierX machines in their hands. As for the key giveaway on Twitch, well I'll never like watching people play a game live, unless it's e-sports on my favorite game and have nothing better to do, or it's a humorous video in which a game is played to provide the lolz. So yeah, I agree with you on that one.

The Gremyashchi is a fun little machine. The fact that it has rather slow torpedoes forces you to use your guns more often than most other destroyers. It's also nicely mobile, and as finances go, it's cheaper than the Sims. Good fun, that little Soviet machine. -
I absolutely loved the Senjo. I didn't use the torpedoes (8km range on buttlaunchers, lol) but the guns felt....good. I fully expected the Des Moines to be ridiculously good and the Yamato to hurt like hell while tanking hits, but I didn't expected the Senjo to have accurate guns with relatively fast shells !

Not to brag, since a lot of newbies leapt into high tier ships without knowing how to handle bigger guns, but.... Des Moines stronk

al Qamar's suggestions on WoWS closed BETA - plea for realism
Exocet6951 replied to alQamar's topic in Archive
While having a realistic game would be nice (as a separate game mode), only very little players would be interested, and each battle would not only take much, much longer, but take the matchmaking dozens of minutes to gather enough players to launch a single battle. I do like the fading idea, a fade time (while not realistic) looks just much better. Torpedoes also have a minimum arming distance ingame. As long as their icon doesn't appear above the torpedo trail, it isn't active. As far as arming distance IRL, it depended on what vehicle it was launched from. US aerial torpedoes could have arming distance as low at 180m [source] while submarine torpedoes armed after a safe zone was reached, so around 300m. So extrapolating from submarine launched torpedoes, arming distance can be as low as 300m . If a destroyer ingame is a 300m from you, it's that something wnet horribly wrong for the both of you. I can reliably say that apart from the 1 or 2 rammings I've done, I have never voluntarily or involuntarily been at less than 300m than an enemy. So no, arming distance isn't an issue, and any increase in it would be an unhistorically accurate nerf to torpedo ships and torpedo bombers. -
Skipping over the easy and juvenile joke I could make with the title... Is it working now? Maybe it was just the server that wasn't ready for XXX tier battles. PS: Yes, the Des Moines is as good as it looks. 10 rpm on 203s stronk.

Because the only tiers worth testing is tierX, right? Also, switch to random battles, rather than PvE against bots. You'll earn more than 150xp/game on average.
-
lol >Implying Fusos would fire a full broadside salvo at 20km and hit 1/2 the shells 90% of the time on the first try in any circumstance other than having a marker.
-
It may be a clever maneuver by WG to see what people are modding to get advantages. Using CBT as a testing grounds for what is gamebreaking and what modders will do. They let it run, giving no restrictions, then one day BAM , they ban it and everyone using it, along with any other way to have a clearly cheated mod. A man can dream, no?
-
If you want a clear indication of who uses the aim mod, look for BBs firing full broadsides at max range without an aiming shot or two beforehand. People with 30 second+ reload times don't waste their time firing at random.

While I don't agree with what Atomskytten said about how WoWS is played, to answer your question, the only different thing with WoT is that you don't feel like you're gimping yourself by picking one class over the other. If you use a medium tank, you won't see an opponent on the same tier with twice the HP, more range and the ability to remove half of your hp in a single good shot, which is what happens when you reach tier7-8 and BB players start to get pretty good at aiming. In WoT, I have never felt like I was completely useless in a fight. In WoWS, if I pick a destroyer and the enemy team consists majoritarily of battleships that decide to stick back and snipe, I can just alt-tab out of the game. Same if I pick a cruiser. Or a CV. And while I'm ok with testing the game under these conditions, the fact that nothing has been done to prevent this since mid-December, and no statement from WG was given to address the situation, I'm left to assume that this will continue to be the case when the game is released, because WG wants money from the masses of players, who themselves want to be strong by playing the biggest ships with the biggest guns and blowing smaller ships out of the water. This. You want me to test something? Ok. But don't complain when I say that you're making 3/4th of the classes so unattractive compared to the other, that if nothing is done, I won't play it any more. Until then, I'll keep testing the game, being an accessory to 4-5 players per match, rather than being part of a team. EDIT; to make my point perfectly clear, I'm not asking for a perfect game right now in this phase, I'm only asking for the developpers' insight as to what they are doing. Because that's how feedback works. It goes both ways. Otherwise, it's just a customer satisfaction form you fill out.

I'm not bored with the game, nor testing, but with the "radio silence" and the direction the game is taking. The first beta weekend open mid december, and since then, I've noticed one single thing : people flock to one class. They had 4 months to at least come up with a statement. Instead, they nerf other classes to the ground and make that one class an RNG slot machine while staying silent on the subject. This being WG, I'm expecting the worst. Also, being beta testers doesn't mean we should ignore missing things, saying its "just a beta" , we should also point out when an iteration of a game is just not enjoyable as much as it used to, or could be. It's not just pointing out bugs.

To be honest, I'm starting to get annoyed really. Almost every match plays out the same: BBs have their long range duel, while CAs and DDs try to scrape some cap points and kill each other. In every single match, it feels like there are 2 different battles going on. Apparently, MM has no problem considering that 1 DD = 1 BB , so why is it matches are almost exclusively carried by BBs? Make up your mind WoWS. Either all ships are equal in potential and can carry games, or some ships are clearly the backbones of every match, but you limit their numbers. As it stands, every time I take out an IJN cruiser, I have to face minimum 5 BBs. Generally more than there are CAs. How is that fun? I've reached a point where the freshness of the game has worn off and it needs to stand on its own merits. Right now, it's not. Maybe the devs are addressing that issue, but no statements on their part. So in true WG manner, I'm left to assume that they are catering to the masses, and the masses want to play the biggest possible ships mindlessly. If this is indeed the case, no amount of features/tweaks will keep me in a game where I'm expected to fight hordes of capital ships that can randomly kill me instantly as an underdog class. It's just not fun after a while.

Well obviously you don't keep zigzagging non-stop. As long as you're not getting shot to bit, you can wait for your guns to line up. If it's a BB firing at you, 30 seconds if enough to have 3 guns on target, and as soon as the BB fires, you switch to the other side. That's for the running away part. For a full broadside, my only suggestion is to aim better than the other guys. The Myoko isn't a great ship, but its only real weakness is how fragile it is. If you can find a position were fragility isn't an issue (as in if you find some other allied ship to do the tanking), it can be a very potent ship. After all, it's 10 203mm guns with good accuracy firing at 5rpm. At tier8, that's something to be reckonned with.
-
Well, it is early in the game. Low amount of maps, some of the basic mechanics aren't implemented yet, game modes need tweaking, the entire consumables mechanic is missing... If you feel bored with the game, if you dont want to play it because it just doesn't suit you, don't get frustrated with it. Leave for a few months, come back, see what progress has been made and decide if you want to give it a chance.

Funnily enough, the odd turret placement is a good thing, because it means you can flee from conflict while firing. You can zig zag and keep 3/5th of your guns on target. It also synergizes with the rear-mounted torp launchers. You can actually use them without turning around. Then again, that's in theory. In practice, try to use your 16km range to stay out of danger. Your fast firing 203s can do some serious damage to BBs, and your AA is rather good (when upgraded), so stick around with others and shoot at targets of opportunity while keeping out of range of others, or sufficiently far and mobile enough that you aren't the main focus.
-
The defense against torpedoes you have is movement. You have an indicator to tell you were torpedoes are coming from. You turn parallel to torpedoes to not get hit. Battleships in this game aren't sitting ducks, because sitting ducks are immobile. An immobile ship in this game is a dead ship. Especially if it takes a while to speed up and has a 20knot top speed. Right now, you are using a battleship with less range than cruisers, and very slow RoF, against destroyers that have fast reloading torpedoes. The carrier you are using it also the slowest ship in the game. I can only suggest you play US cruisers to have varied gameplay up to tier5, with good guns, decent mobility and even some torpedoes on tier4 and 5 to get a better idea. Seriously, keep an open mind, an eye on the minimap, get some experience with more flexible ships like cruisers. You'll see that destroyers past tier5 are extremely underpowered opportunistic ships. Especially IJN DDs, because at least the USN DDs have the decency to have great guns.
-
Circle ? If a destroyer is close enough to circle a battleship, the battleship failed. Also, maybe play more than 20 battles before claiming an entire class is OP ? I'm not trying to be mean, but you're completely new to the game, and have to learn how to play, which is normal, we have all been there.
