Stealth firing removal: also for Premiums!
Exocet6951 replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
Yeah no, 8km torpedoes that can only fire almost backwards means that if you're in range to use them, you're in range to get overmatch butt-citpenned. A Zao without stealth fire is a fat cruiser with a large citadel and only average maneuverability for her tier. There's a reason why spotted Zaos currently die so fast. -
Stealth firing removal: also for Premiums!
Exocet6951 replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
I agree that it's moronic, but it's the natural evolution to a terrible meta. You could either make it go away, or steer the meta away from it, rendering stealth firing as inefficient as 20km max range BB hero sniping. As for the Zao, you know what you call a close range Zao that kites? A Des Moines. It's currently the worst performing tierX cruiser, and was the worst performing TierX before the arrival of the dreadful Z-52. -
Nuclear shells topic i found by accident ...
Exocet6951 replied to Ysterpyp's topic in General Discussion
After a bit of research, it turns out the Americans did so on 152mm, 155mm and 203mm land-based artillery guns as well. And their chief designer in the matter maintained that it could have been adopted in 105mm as well. No word on a 127mm nuclear shells though. It would make the Atlanta much more fun though -
I'm going to give you two pieces of advice, one of which you're really not going to like. First, use a different binocular. There are some in the game menu with diagonal lines drawn on it, making firing at ships moving diagonally much less of a guesswork. Just line it up on the correct line, and you have the proper bearing. Secondly, and this is a big one, boost that fps. You're playing on 12-14 fps. That's not fluid, it's just annoying and frustrating to watch. Remove all your dynamic mods such as the relative bearing compass and such which is a large computer resource drain, lower the graphic setting, and get at least 30fps. It's not a "herp derp ultra setting 1080p 60fps master race" thing, it's genuine advice. You'll do better once the image is actually fluid, that's a guarantee. Do both of that, and you'll see better personnal results. And with better personnal results, you'll compensate more for worse players on your team, meaning a higher global win rate.

Nuclear shells topic i found by accident ...
Exocet6951 replied to Ysterpyp's topic in General Discussion
Oh yes, nuclear shells shot from artillery guns did exist. Both on land-based artillery and ship-based artillery. It was more of a fad and quickly went out of service, because artillery guns don't have that much range all things considered, and the payload was restricted by the rifle's bore size and aerodynamic/physical dimension limits of the shell itself. As far as depleted uranium and other heavy metal projectile, those are to my knowledge exclusively used in armor piercing sabot type rounds. And I believe the only ones who ever tried to have such rounds in large caliber naval artillery were the British, very briefly. It didn't really work out. Ships are too big to be noticably damaged by a thin metal rod, even with all the shrapnel created from the impact and pyrophoric (inflammable) nature of uranium dust. -
This. And might I add that 8 of those 10 planes were torpedo bombers. Low flying in a straight line at low speeds. The most dangerous type of plane to fly with the highest attrition. The only reason the US sent out 360-ish planes is because they had 360-ish planes available. As with the common "5 Shermans for a 1 Tiger" myth, this is just a common misconception. All the planes were used because all the planes were available, not that over 300 planes were needed, and especially not that over 300 planes were lost. Just like the Shermans. 5 were sent because it was the smallest group of unit there was, not that a minimum of 5 were required. Had the US doctrine been "3 medium tanks form a platoon", then the myth would have been that it takes 3 Shermans to kill a single Tiger.

So is football.Yet you don't force your way into a Champion's league team, lose with your team, then complain that football sux, team sux, and you know because you know everything there is to know about football. If you're not a good player, and you're allowed to not be good there nothing wrong with that, it's not being mean, just refrain from ranked battles if you're just going to blame the team. As many others have pointed out, you powergrinded one (very forgiving) class of ship too fast, now you're in higher tiers with little experience, little knowledge, and you're wondering why things are not going well. Go back to tier 3 or 4, get some good basics, a solid foundation with all 4 classes. That's the best thing you can do, and it'll help a lot.

Imperator Nickolai - time for some changes
Exocet6951 replied to cherry2blost's topic in General Discussion
At that 60% WR is global, all time average. It's sitting a hair under 65% these days, with almost 15k more average damage than the average tier4BB, which is roughly 50% more. That's almost Flint levels of overperforming, on a ship which anyone could buy or win. The Gremmy can only wish it could be more overperforming than that. It's high time some of these rare, really strong premium ships got some type of nerf, because being rare just isn't a balance point. -

Don't bother arguing about that. The normal fanboy train of thought is: "It's not the best so it's bad" <== AA "it's the best, but it's overrated and not that much better" <== maneuverability, hydro, secondaries, armor "It's the worst on that tier for that class, so it makes it almost unplayable" <== accuracy

wat.

That's not exactly fair though, not eveyone uses a standard QWERTY keyboard, and not everyone who uses a QWERTY keyboard uses WASD. Some use the arrow keys.

Meanwhile, out of the 20-30 containers I bought, I didn't even get a single one, and more than half the containers had new years camo. -
Unlikely future premium ships (feel free to post wishes)
Exocet6951 replied to SmartassNoob's topic in Battleships
Same. I swear that if it were released, I would have a jar in which I put some coins in for every spout rage directed at me. And I'd have that jar on a ****ing live stream every time I played it -

Slap on a top down view for the aiming, and you'll have people with tortches and pitchforks out for blood, comparing CVs to WoT arty and demanding that the "sky disease affecting different organs of the human body" be removed at once -

Any sort of monitor. Probably more of a reward ship of some kind. Hilariously inefficient, quasi-pointless, a footnote in History, but damn...such large guns on such small ships :'D Unlikely to happen, but that's what this thread about anyways. Also, the Surcouf. Yes it's technically a submarine, and it would set bad precedents, but there's a charm in having an unarmored ship with twin 203s at low tiers, with a very small detection radius. -
Oh do tell how the most overperforming and most numerous class in the game, according to WG's own word, is suffering so much. Also, Moskva doesn't overpen citadels, it's simply not mechanically not possible for it to overpen a citadel. Even a Kirov's paper thin citadel plating will set off the fuze. Another clear cut case of "L2differenciate between overpenning a non armored zone on an all-or-anothing style armor scheme, and overpening a citadel" It's also pathetically easy to counter. A DD that has to rush towards you presents a nice profile ripe for regular pens. "Nice hp you got there DD, it would be a shame if I were to....deal over 12k damage to it, and let the secondaries take care of the rest while I use my overbuffed maneuverability to dodge most of your torpedoes"
-
If you want to start asking for more historical accuracy, you can bet your *** BBs are going to lose.Hard. Dangerous little game to play.
-
Once again a case of "I don't think it can happen, so it can't" Hey, quick question for you, what happens to an AP shell designed to bury itself over a dozen METERS inside of an enemy ship, with the fuze only activating when it hits substantial armor plating as to insure it doesn't explode early, with a fuze time designed with the shell being slowed down by both armor and non-essential internal bits, hits a low armor zone that barely slow the shell down and doesn't even activate the fuze in the first place? There's a reason why battleships had secondary batteries, and that's because their main guns were simply not designed for shooting at lightly armored targets. And History is riddled with non-capital ships being hit and overpenetrated by even 203mm AP shells. Also, unless you're firing at a very thin cruiser with very thin citadel plating using massively oversized guns for that tier, you're not overpenetrating the citadel. Asking for the removal of overpens on the basis of History is wrong. Asking for the removal of overpens on the basis of gameplay is simply idiotic. Should that happen, I should either stop playing, or demand that fires take time to repair, can't be all repaired at once, and every single AA gun or exposed secondary battery be put out of service for as long as the fire keeps burning. Also that the smoke eminating blurs vision. and that a BB's rudder snaps in half if he decides to initiate a turn at full speed, then swings the rudder to the other side mid-turn.
-
About the fire, that's just confirmation bias. Apart from some premium ships that might not have had the values updated, all ships have a unified chance of being set on fire per tier (and maybe per class, I don't remember). And both the Izumo and the Iowa having semi-armored decks protecting them from sub-8" HE, it's really never been more prone to fire. Probably less so, sine the superstructure is so ridiculously small. And I'd take an Iowa into battle as well, it's just more well rounded and flexible. It's less armored and has less base penetration, but since no fight is done at 0km and that the plunging superheavy shells are better at citpenning smaller targets than the more straight flying 410mm the Izumo is sporting, I always find the Iowa more reliably at dealing consistent damage per salvo. But the Izumo is still a good ship, still almost alone in its ability to have all its firepower facing forward with no danger of frontal penetration. Poor Izumo is still reeling from bad press from its release and disappointment when coming from the Amagi, which is a ship I would without hesitation take into a tierX battle with confidence.
-
People overly dramatize it because it used to have stock shells that were basically stock Nagato shells and 127mm AA that was absolutely anemic. Awful at tier9. Those problems got fixed. Now you get to have one of the best guns in the game, all 9 forward firing with angle still sufficient to bounce everything except lolpen Yamato, giving THE BEST bow facing firepower in terms of fire density for a BB in the game. The 127mm AA is ok. Not stellar, but does the job with manual AA. Maneuverability is good, armor is good, deck armor thick enough to stop non-IFHE shells, and one of the smallest superstructures in the game... What more do people need ? Had I been more patient with the meta, and not played the Izumo like a pseudo-battering ram, I'm sure I could have gotten better results than on the Amagi, a ship that's already overperforming a bit in my eyes.
-
In fact, according to (fan made, but always accurate) penetration graphs, the Izumo has THE BEST penetration in the game at 0m, and only loses out to the likes of the Iowa and Yammie at longer ranges. I kept reading that the Izumo was bad, then I played it, and it was pretty good. Fast turrets, great guns, decent armor, decent maneuverability... The only part that sucked was being enormous and having awful torpedo protection, and while going "only" 27 knots. I still have good memories of the ship. Even the AA worked admirably.

47% WR in 1850 battles 89% battles with BBs Unsurprised.

Exocet6951 replied to SmartassNoob's topic in Battleships
I remember her being worthless in the hands of a potato, even downright harmful to the team. But in good hands? 40 (unnerfed) torpedoes in the water hurt. A LOT. I saw more than one Kita absolutely crush BBs and CAs alike in the opening minutes, leading to a instant numerical superiority. It was rare, most just spammed torps like morons then got quintuple citpens. Kuma in tier8 after all, RIP.
