I played solo for most of my wows lifespan and I usually aim to win which playing solo comes under stress when sniping for snipe sake. I tried sniping at tier VI last year and was unsuccesful at it mostly, with the major downside being a liability for the team I was playing in instead of being an asset. That's because i played carrier purely to snipe disregarding the situation or MM. As you both have pointed out, that is not how to approach this. Thanks both of you for sharing what you know. I'm going to take a few carriers into test rooms first checking damage numbers and resource managment. That will be new for me, I usually just wing it unhindered by knowledge playing purely on gut. ^^

Very helpful, thanks. So this means solo cv play is out of the question usually, as you need someone to help you apply pressure to a flank or appreciate the opportunity. Pretty tough conditions as I wouldn't want to impose me learning how to snipe for snipes sake drag div mates down with me on a losing streak. :( What I do get from this, and BLUB, is that cenrtain conditions must be met or opportunity arise which is a great start for learning without getting frustrated early on. Because I tried for a short time last year and failed, probably because i tried to snipe disregaring whatever the situation was. Where do you focus on when you attack a carrier with a carrier? Predrop one or two? Use torpedoes, AP rockets, AP bombs? How do you handle the often two figher drops near carriers, it's auto DCP and fire and flooding resistance? Are HE weapons a poor choice because of that? What about the armored decks at high tiers? Are they a problem for same tier carriers?

That's also not what I ment by alts, sorry - to me it's an alt to your real person, a forum persona. ^^ No it's not, but the addition of an 'unspotted DD' that 'makes no mistake' is something pano and you added on your own accord and is a boring redirection of what my question really was and still is: Is it viable to target the enmy carrier early on in the match and how effective is that? So if you really want to be helpful instead of misdirecting the discussion on whataboutDDisms like Panocek here -which is the point I was making answering BLUB- how about perhaps explain if it's worth it to target enemy carriers when playing carriers, under which conditions, with what tools and techniques to focus on?

Thanks, that is at least a start. I know most obvious hiding places, even for the russian carriers. So what I read here is that you usually drop a strike of opportunity if you have a squadron left from a previous attack and the carrier is near the position you are playing? How effective is that, and how do you go about it? Do you pre drop your initial normal strike and just see if you have any planes left from that attack, or do you not predrop to keep planes remaining and take the losses, which seems bad resource managment now that I think about it, correct? How do you handle the auto DCP, the auto fighters and usually strong AA? Do you only attack with the final strikegroup? Also, are there specific carriers or nations decent to good at striking enemy carriers? Are russian carriers valid targets since they usually operate closer to the front lines?

Really. This is a serious question you have. This makes you genuinely sad. Really man, that's beyond all honesty. There's a couple of reasons that question went unanswered. The main one is that I've just returned from another day out enjoying the sun with my wife and family without paying attention to a duo of game forum alts asking framed questions with the sole intent to bait. And I won't bother now either. I'm pretty sure you can appreciate why. I'll check what Blub has written to try to answer my question, as it's quite a read. Maybe I can even learn something new here. Because I've been genuinely wondering if it's possible to target and kill carriers semi reliably with a carrier and have asked before. But never got any other reply then: it's not worth it.
-
Im quite sure i dont know or i wouldnt ask. And if its worth it why do all good carrier players say its not worth the bother? Why does it hardly ever happen in game and start people facepalming when carriers try to snipe? Im not moving goalposts mate, i simply understand how long it takes to sink a carrier that is sitting in the back of the map. So dissapointing again. Stop evading a direct question perhaps and for the love of wows, can one of you for once just explain how to do it effectively using a carrier?
-
Thats all basic BS blub, seriously. Almost all of it. I've killed plenty of DD's in BB's without the help of anyone else. Saying no decent player can be killed before the 7th minute is absolute nonsense in especially randoms or ranked. Clanwars, sure, which makes those matches snooze fests. And no, i dont know how you delete an enemy carrier before the end game by playing one myself unless i am prepared to waste huge amounts of time and planes for little gain. Care to explain how you reliably do that, and how often do you actually go for it? My guess is hardly ever, unless it is the last target available. None of the carrier players seem to be doing it either by being incapable of doing it or simply don't to do it because it is a reliable way to waste resources on what usually are nobs not worth deleting. The only carrier players that do are usually the really bad ones which is a dead giveaway they are no threat to your team at all. So how do you succesfully go after enemy carriers first?

It's these backward 'features' of gameplay, where your AA crew thinks it's vital to kill off reserve enemy planes instead of the ones actually on an attack run, passive 'fighters' who fully rely on an enemy carrier litterally being dumber then a static circle of bot code and the overall passiveness, disassociation and lack of immersion that makes me wonder why people say they play carriers 'because they like aviation gameplay'. Nothing of all of this shows any love for what could make a naval aviation game cool. Not even their hull positioning, which real life carrier has ever beached itself into an island because it's the best possible solution to not getting damaged? How can you enjoy the stupidity of all of this? -
Except you can sink the other ships while doing it and take them out of the match entirely. Not so much with carriers usually. Maybe I'm wrong. I was hoping you avid carrier players would have come up with fun tactical ways to actually handle carriers on the enemy team and send them to port before the 7 minute mark by now. Guess not?

Why carriers cant attack submarines ?
Mad_Dog_Dante replied to M_A_E_stro's topic in General Discussion
What is funy is carriers sitting off alone in some stupid corner wondering why they are 'defensless' against submarines while the rest of their team is clumped together on the other side of the map because they need to blob up to 'play as a team' against carrier attacks. -
No it's not the same. That's carrier whataboutism lol.

If you like airplanes, I don't understand how you can stomague the crap Lesta has come up with. I love flying in games espcially ones where you can combat infantry, ships or mechanised weaponry. But these stupid WOWS things dont feel like airplanes, they dont behave like airplanes and they dont even look like airplanes, just miniatures applying a circle of damage, sometimes even squares. And i'm not talking sim quality features here, just simple modeling airplanes and flying behavior that feels a bit like you are controlling cool airplanes instead of a flock of muppets. WOWP suffered the same issue, WG simply is incapable of modeling and coding cool aviation combat. One of the worst 'features' carriers have which destroys immersion completely is the F key nonsense where you immediately dissasociate yourself from your attack by being teleported to your ship hull to instantly take off a new squadron before the ordonnace even hit's the target. It makes carrier gameplay videos painful to watch. How can you stomague these things? Nonsense, there are plently of carrier players out there with positive Karma. I compliment good carrier players a much as I report bad ones. You are not completely defenseless against subs, unless you go sit in some stupid corner away from your team like most carrier players seem to do. So go rely on your team like a good teamplayer. You know the 'you should not go off alone because it's a team game' mantra. -
So, after hundreds maybe thousands games of experience in playing carriers all you people can come up with is still 'just dodge'? That's so dissapointing.

Lesta finally succumbs to a never seen before forum rage storm after the years of trying to get them to do it the polite way. So again, it's both. As I had a great weekend outside with the mrs, my forehead is both red from sunburn, as well as the massive slaps of facepalm reading your simplistic baiting attempts. I think we're done feeding you buddy -

I'm about to lose interest due to your one trick pony magic, but whatever. It's both. There is no contradiction when Lesta starts publishing drop rates and increase age ratings due to forums raging, while abandoning stupid ideas like stun bombs on their own initiative (after being told it's stupid by the way) because they discovered by play testing internally their stunbomb idea is stupid AF. As a former game dev I've been subject to the same forum behavior that can be found on these game forums for years, hence I have relevant experience on how things work in that regard. As for what I've experienced form your behavior on this thread so far I would suggest: go pet a horse. I hear its great -

My guess is that people don't want events that cause more (bad) players jump into carriers -

Its quite simple Nagine, ive sat on the other side of the table for a couple of years as a game developer. You on the other hand are desperately reframing whatever is thrown your way probably for a bit of attention ^^ -

Nope, they were cancelled because lesta tested their own stupid idea only to find out it was a really stupid idea. Not because people explained it to them lol. -

Fact is raging forums pushed Lesta and WG what asking nicely for years couldn't do. I'm sorry if that bursts your bubble, but it is simply what happened. If you can't handle your opinion being challenged by arguments, maybe don't post your condescending opinion of people on public forums ^^ -

I no where say you are not entitled to your own opinion, however misplaced or ill informed it may be. Writing stuff like that is just you, again refraiming when you find yourself and your wobbely opinion challenged. Im just disputing your self righteousness claiming your are not arguing which is bs. Because you have been doing just that. Writing nonsense isnt equal to having an opinion. Nor writing passive agressive 'drivel' like you keep doing ^^ -
Yep, rare things happen especially when it's late: 4 carriers 4 subs matches while being low tier in a =2 tier match f.e. The worst comes out of the MM at unusual hours. Some say it's our fault for playing late. I say it's Lesta unable to create valid MM for off hour situations ^^

You overthink things too much probably. People simply rage on forums all over the web about things they don't like. That's it. People complain. In real life and on forums. At kitchen tables and on Reddit. Everyone here knows the developer is stubborn and hasn't produced a lot of great content over the last few years, even with a forum in rage mode for years now. It doesn't stop the outrage. The reason for this is simple. Complaining is simply a force of human nature. It's what it is. Nothing much else. -

Except you are arguing constantly. This thread that you seem so fond of to point to as illustration, started with an irrational post and got a CM to respond. So it actually illustrates the opposite. It got a silly igniting official response, but that's just Yabba being a poor CM fueling the flames further. The changes we have seen the last 6 months are here because of a giant community outburst that even got some industry press. The endless tinkering with submarines is only here because of that outrage and 1000 pages long bitching and complaining about the way carriers were developed. So your assumptions on what will happen if the forums (and reddit and youtube and facebook etc etc lol) would calm down are simple failed theory on your part blissfully unaware or simply ignoring reality. All past events point to the opposite: rage works, constraint doesn't. A combination of the two is probably the most effective: good cop bad cop. The problem is that you seem so content with your 'interesting' observation (lol) that you refuse to see that simple history. ^^ -

Mkay. Whatever it is you are trying to express here, I can't make out head nor tail. It's just incohesive rambling to me by now. Enjoy your evening.
