    Maybe an idea....

They won't but I commend you for your optimism and effort.

    Could we have a "I got a chatban!"-button?

What? You got a longer ban?

Friesland: before you spend your FXP

I currently run this on my 19, because I really wanted PM in my build. 2 turrets is not much, 1 is even less and always run premium consumables anyway, so i opted for AR and PM instead of SI. But SI might be better while grinding your captain, as it will add a bit more survivability to your setup (extra smoke, extra hydro and extra DefAA). BFT is an important one both for your AA and guns. Great choice to go for those first. AR gets your guns to a whopping 1.3 s reload when damaged, but that is so fast it is almost confusing and hard to handle properly It depends on your personal preference, but as I see it, dead ships can't shoot, so SI might be a solid pick after BFT.

Can't win em all. Not a bad first match at all. Well, you got the 'OMG Battleship rapes me at close range' thing out of the way. I only learned that in my 3rd match, not map aware enough to notice a Bismark that was rounding an island I was near to with a fresh new hydro for me to enjoy. Couldn't escape in time enough and I was already at 1/3rd of my HP left, so I got blapped. On a lighter note, I had a full HP Lyon tier VII BB push my smoke in my second match, that didn't end well for the Lyon. I noticed what he was going for so I sailed away from my smoke still conceiled by it at range and peppered the Lyon relentlessly to 2/3rd of his HP. When he broke through the smoke cloud we started trading at roughly 8 - 9 km, and with some smooth kiting I burned him down with 2/3rd of my HP remaining and him dead. You will yet encouter the 'I can have this destroyer, o wait what?' thing, the 'Where did all my HP go?' and the 'What T F am I supposed to do here?' thing where you are lost for action because you don't have the tools for the job or teammates to be helpful to left. Enjoy Edit: how many points on your captain currently? Edit 2: so did the Kagero explain why he didn't kill the FDG for you?

Oooh. Well enjoy buddy, but bewarned, she takes getting used to. I've not died as frequently in any other DD when I first got it. It took me about 3 to 5 battles to get an idea what to do, and i've blundered into stupid situations with her. Be patient, watch the battle, and help wherever you can. It's the ship for opportunists.

By way of not having this button yet, it's my pleasure to inform you all that I've been chatbanned for two weeks until the 23rd or something. ^^

The Friesland was something i saved my FXP for, because she had 2 traits that I liked: being an fxp destroyer instead of the usual battleship or battlecruiser, and being an unusual destroyer at that. For me it cant get any better then that. Same reason why I saved my coal for the Smol.

Yeah, imagine us playing games requiring actual thought. Wtf are we thinking. O wait we're not.

They did implement that for the planes returning to the carrier :-) But like everything else concerning carriers and AA, it's all been automated because we're stupid.

I hope so, it's exactly that thinking that makes my Assashio my no1 and favorite DD ever even in dealing with high tier DD's. Most players are unable to think beyond the obvious, both in the ship and fighting it. I'm not sure yet if the Friesland can hold up to that but we'll see. In the mean time I'll be looking forward to any buffs or sideway changes. I'm fine with anything really. What I'm suspecting though is that the current balance is based on additional functionality which will only get unlocked when subs arrive. Edit: let's not ignore the stats please. If a majority of the player base either can't handle the ship or it actually turns out too weak once everyone knows how to fight it's by all means buff the hell out of it.

Yes it has been stated a few times. Some here can take a Friesland on any time even with lower tier destroyers. Until they meet one with a good captains in it probably.

The Friesland is anything but a selfish ship. If anything, her downside is she works best with other ships. Selfish players will fail in her, selfish teammates not working with her will result in her underperforming. You can't blame WG for creating a ship that excels in support, other then having pushed the game more and more into a self serving direction this last year by changing AA ranges, radar, damage only focused CV's and other stuff I've forgotten already. What I read in this topic is some that don't like the Friesland want her to be like the other destroyers, a 'real' destroyer. It's why players fail in the Friesland, lack of flexibility and or creative thinking. I commend WG for creating a ship that needs a different mindset, especially after what I consider one of the biggest mind numbing IQ draining changes of the game, the CV rework.

Where is the fun to play "Le Terrible" now ?

Does double click work for torpedoes?

The issue with cap contesting is not it's only it's conceilment, but any exchange will result in permanent damage that is unrecoverable. This causes good Frieslands captains to be very precise in picking their battles and bad ones to fail miserably. You can't afford any mistakes or surprises. Conceilment will help a bit, but especially the lack of any heal or massive HP makes it a reactive ship, lowering ROF will only add to that problem and not help captains contest caps without the risk of permanently breaking their ship. Any damage sticks and will force it to be played even more careful. As long as that's the case, Frieslands will be played at range more succesfully. I played a IHFE build (can pen 25 mm) and that's not good enough at that tier currently. Too many instances where fire does a way better job on anything but carriers because magic. I currently run a DE and ROF build which I'm happy with. You know what I would like to try? An optional 7.5 km dd style radar in the slot of it's hydro.

Right. Good players do. No one here including me is saying her damage is winning games. I'm not a Friesland sales rep. I'm not here to be right, I'm here sharing my personal experiences in her so far to assist anyone interested. If it turns out most of the players can't do well in her then by all means let WG boost her. I have to get back to work. I'll suffice by reposting my first impression, to help anyone interested to make in informed decision.

She's not anti DD. She can wreck havoc but it can come at a hefty price. I've deleted or crippled any type of destroyers I've encountered so far. But lost damage is permanent, which makes it very important to know when to pick your battles. I wouldn't be sailing her if she was cash only.

The Jutland might still be your preferred ship, as the Friesland doesn't exactly play like you describe, RU style due to the lack of heal. The UK DD's are better at disengaging due to their smoke and has the scare warning colors . Friesland has double rainbow colors actually. Friesland is a very odd duck. I'd say her main trait is being a very good support ship more then anything else which is probably why I like it.

Yeah i noticed that. So it's better at farming BB damage then any other DD out there despite the lack of alpha. Look i get that it is not a 'real' DD and that you dont like it because of that. The disparity and seeing in matches when and where it fails tells me a part of it's current players are struggeling with how to play it. Most likely because they try to play it as their regular DD's and fail at it miserably. Its very likely players simply fail to adapt to it due to the nature of our player base. You might be assuming players with lots of FXP are in general great players, and as we all know looking at tier X matches, who are players that are able to grind basically, thats not nessecerily the case. If it turns out the rest of the values will descrease over time like we expect, i'd be more then happy to take some buffs to make it less hard work

Great, you actually got my suggestion, well, kind of... Because, yes that sounds fair to me and is exactly why I suggested it ^^ That slight patronising tone is not chique though Now that we've both established that opinions differ and understand that players can completely fail at the Friesland because they want (or expect) it to be a 'real' destroyer (with alpha strike capacity i'm guessing as per your example), perhaps you can show me some statistcs that point to where the ship is broken. Or point it out in the stats I pulled up from wows-numbers. Damage (1st) - WR (7th) - Ships killed (6th) - XP (4th) - Planes destroyed (1st) - K/D (5th)? To me these point to a healthy normal ship so far, not a broken underperforming one. But I'm not really at home in WOWS statistcis I must admit, so if you're able to point out to me how these numbers add up to a bad performing ship I'm genuinely interested. Could it be you're looking for confirmation of your bias that it's not a 'real' destroyer?

Will you Reset in The Research Bureau

Sure to each his own. Resetting the line does force me to play these ships again, and that's a different experience from occasionally playing a lower tier ship. That is why I made sure I picked lines that I enjoyed most of the time, and were ones I played long ago. You will not see me resetting the IJN BB line any time soon, I don't like those ships. Resetting gave back some of the gratification of playing and earning enough XP for the next ship in line, instead of looking for that gratification in tier 9 and 10 or waiting for new lines I don't enjoy, like the french DD line, or the russian BB line. And for me, it works. I get to choose what line to play through instead of having to wait for WG to come up with new and weird stuff. I can usually buy coal or XP ships when they are released. Limiting my options to a degree (being forced to play through a select few lines of my choice) brings a lot of fun back for me. Instead of it feeling like a chore, like most grinds for high tier rewards feel these days. Not wanting the reward ships at the end makes it even better, I have no interest to get there soon, so I am fully enjoying the replay of lines. EDIT: I also found that with me understanding the game better now, I enjoy some ships I didn't understand back then way more.
