Player names in after battle report to be easier to read
BrusilovX posted a topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure if this is a problem for other players but I find it very hard to read the player names in the after battle screen if they've been destroyed. The letters don't seem to be coloured at all. I was just in a battle in my Phoenix and fired on a friendly destroyer (who for some reason was right next to me while I was trying to maneouver to avoid enemy fire) and wanted to apologize for doing that. I do play on a laptop with resolution 1920x1080 but most text is easy to read on it. -
Don't you mean 'Kemp Island'?
-
Yes, - also don't forget that it took more than a few years to get platoon mates damaging each other to actually count as team damage - quite often in WoT a troll platoon would spend most of the battle shooting each other..... I was in the closed beta of WoT also - although I started quite late in the development.(23/10/2010).

I use the Murmansk and it always seems to return a decent amount of credits even in a bad game. I'm not sure if WoWS has a similar mechanic to WoT where damage against a higher tier vehicle was worth more than damage against a lower tier enemy. I think at one stage that was removed from WoT though....

Cant add contacts to my contact list
BrusilovX replied to svarteryttaren's topic in General Discussion
I've added three players to my friends list without problem - once the clunky interface was worked out (as I posted). Edited: I've just noticed that the contacts that I've set up are in the game folder in a file in the following path: ...\WoWS\res_mods\0.4.0.3 and the file is called chat_pref_500224368_wowseu.loc.xml. I've created a game folder on my 'c' drive called c:\games and installed WoWS there. It may be that wherever you installed the game to you may not have permissions to edit files in that location. I keep games away from the default folders (c:\program files or c:\program files (x86)) as Windows treat these as protected folders. -
From what I know this (limiting tier spread) was never introduced in WoT. Remember though in that game some scout vehicles automatically get counted as a higher tier for MM purposes. Still you would expect that some limitations would be easy to add into the game but then it's Wargaming.....

Cant add contacts to my contact list

I think it's the way that you're doing it. When you see the 'add player' type in the player's name and then press the ENTER button on screen - don't just press new line or whatever you've set up for enter. Once you've done this a list of matching player names should be shown and then you right mouse click the one you want. It's clunky but it does work. -
Which is almost as bad as most of the team hiding behind an island and not moving from it. I was in a draw the other night and one of our top tier battleships had sat behind their favorite island and only moved when our side had 5 ships and the enemy team had 2 (one was a CV the other was a BB). The CV took out our last DD and the CV and the enemy battleship took me out - we were both trying to cap as we would not be able to destroy them both with the time left (we did not know where the CV Was).

I presume any aircraft in the game will have to be carrier based. Does that then exclude the Beaufighter and Mosquito?
-
Not that I'm an expert but the only images I've seen of rockets on ships is for the bombardment role. For anti-ship warfare I think the FAA did use rockets. Edited; Just found this for the USN ships

Well, it's still a beta so some things will hopefully be changed. It wasn't that long ago that the different view you get when the spotter plane is near your target was not in-game. Some control over where the spotter plane goes - maybe even as far as selecting an area to patrol.
-
If you click the red button in the bottom left hand corner, then select the '+Add Player' button you will then be able to enter a players name or partial name. Once the name is hsown you can right mouse click that name you can 'send message/add to contacts/add to your blacklist'. Edited: Beaten to it by Del_Mare

But there must be some mechanic that triggers the 'spotted' warning if your captain has that skill. I doubt that the program does not know what spotted the ship although I guess it could become complex if multiple ships are spotting the same enemy - but then they've probably handled that in WoT already. I guess the game is still in beta test mode and we can't expect everything to be in place yet. Yes, I'd welcome that especially the spotting assistance bonus even if as a ship that loses some XP/credits because another player is lighting up the target for me. I do try and 'light' up enemy ships even if they stay outside of my torpedo range at the moment. I've only unlocked the T4 IJN Destroyers and my trorp range is 7km while I am spotted at 6,1km.
-
I've seen players fire off torpedoes very early in the battle as well. I did ask one player why they did that and another player stated that 'torpedoes can spot'. While that does not sound plausible can anyone confirm that? It's not just torpedoes fired at targets beyond their range it's also main guns and not just at the start of the battle either.

I agree with N00b32 - it did happen in the closed beta test. I've bee in games recently where there can be three or four ships hiding behind the same island on the edge of the map. This probably does give some advantage against enemy teams that have ships spread out over the map rather than concentrating in groups for concentrated fire (so most teams). Like many things people do - if it works once they stick to what they know.

I only play on my PC or laptop - I only own a PS/3

Eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later)....

It's the same in WoT where platoons can be created with a TX and two T1s - although there was a rumour that troll platoons were going to be stopped (at least now in WoT platoons can't spend all battle shooting at each other without penalty - we had such a division in WoWS the other day).
-
Read the thread - buy a premium ship and gain access shortly afterwards. Otherwise wait for more invite codes.
-
Don;t forget that any gold you use will be refunded when CBT finishes and progress is 'reset'. So, you can try out some of the premium ships and not have to keep them if you don't like them!

Not having fun atm in WoWs am I missing something?
BrusilovX replied to Magecraft's topic in General Discussion
On maps with three caps I ask the team A+B or B+C depending upon which combination is closer to where we deploy. Quite often some will come back and say for instance B+C and then we find a few slow ships sail off to A the result is sometimes we cap nothing and lose..... Given the experiences of WoT having a team that communicates is a nice change to what usually happens. I do appreciate that not everyone understands English or can communicate in English but simple commands like B+C? should not be that hard to understand? -
Incentive to make players use their ship as intended
BrusilovX replied to Joergensen's topic in General Discussion
Do DDs get any experience for spotting at the moment or is it all damage and capture points. In a DD I will try and do the right thing by lighting up enemy ships for our BBs to hit using my stealth to not be spotted. -
The other thing to point out with selling ships is to send your captain to the reserve and then use them on the next ship or similar type of ship. This is because the captains gain experience which will allow them to get some skills which can improve the performance of the ship. This can be better aiming, firing torpedoes, better secondary gun performance (including AA) etc etc. You can only have the captain trained in one non-premium ship but if you have a premium ship of the same kind then you can continue their training there at no cost.
