  1. If you don't plan to go for high tier CVs you won't see anything new there. If you are going for CVs however you should try them on the PT, because they are changed now and you won't have a chance to test them on the CBT as the patch will come with wipe and big grind wall protecting them Zao was also changed.

    The +1 perk everyone will have at tier X. so 4x5 vs 3x7. IJN squadron - 148x5=740 dps. x 16 ammo = 11 840 damage in the squadron (Midway's TB will be 14.3K btw). The hp is 1970x5 = 9 850. USN squadron 120x7=840 dps x 20 ammo = 16 800 damage in the squadron (Haku's TB will be 9.5K). The hp is 2150x7 = 15 050. There are many scenarios like 1:1, 2:1 and so on, but let's say it's just fight in the middle 4 vs 3 where the IJN fighters will get dps boost, because they are slower. On paper it's 2960 dps (+unknown boost) with 39 400 hp vs 2520 dps with 45 150 hp. The damage potential is 47 360 vs 50 400. So in theory they have pretty good chances against each other and the RNG will "win", but the win is the same as Midway vs Midway, no one will have the air superiority, after the engagement the fighters will be dead or out of ammo, so it's draw. Then the Haku will have 2 TB + 2 DB vs 2 DB to deal some damage. Midway will have 36 more reserve planes however and can win by planes after 10-15 minutes fighting. So it's hard to say that Haku is better in air superiority role vs Midway, because you can't spread the fighters (they are weak 1 vs 1), however it's pretty much the same in mass engament and better vs strike CVs as it can cover more ground. With such good balanced setups avalible (2/1/2 Midway / 4/2/2 HIA) it will be very hard to play pure strike setups, now it's OK as everyone is playing them. That will change with so many fighters in the air, not to mention the BB and CA fighters that are very very annoying and I would say too effective against strike CVs. But if the stats in OBT show that Midway is overperforming there we can see 1/4/3 setup for strike Haku or the old 10K torps + better spread.

    I said in division, 8 fighters would be overkill with 2 HIAs, while 4 escorting 6 TBs will be enough to nuke a ship At lest that will mean much less sniping with the new setups.

    After playing HIA in full strike vs air superiority Midway I decided for go for it instead as Midway was not so fun. After this change I have no doubts. The stock 2/3/2 is very good strike if you play division. 4/2/2 is better then 2/1/2 on Midway for solo.

    They can't, because of the numbers. Now its 4x5 vs 3x7. The IJN fighters have more dps + that perk giving extra dps against faster fighters. If there are no hidden changes their air power it air superiority setup is the same, but if midway is strike it's easier to hunt with 4 fighters while having 2 TB + 2 DB to deal damage, so it's actually a good way to play it.

    The new setups are kinda ... I won't comment on them, but if there are no hidden changes Hakuryu is now better in air superiority job, while Midway in ship striking. WTF WG...     wipe is not = OBT as I explained. Also it's said on the RU that the patch is not auto start of OBT.

    Yes we will most likely get 0.4.0 with wipe very soon. However that's not auto OBT start, it's still CBT for some times (few more days probably). it was the same with Alpha->CBT, we got the 0.3.0, wipe, but we played few days before CBT started and the gates were open
  13. Balance is based on server stats you know that. Zao was probably scoring more damage on avarage in the last patches (at least few guys who play them both said that). I don't play cruises, so I have no idea if it was needed or not.
  14. You ask the wrong person, I don't understand CAs as I don't really play them, specially the japanese I have no idea if it was needed or not and such changes happen, based on performance (server stats).
  15. There were a lot of complaints that low tier USN CVs are uselss and can play only fighters, because their strike loadout is so UP. There was buff lately and as there is lots of moaning on the NA forum even after the buff I decided to make a test on the CBT and play 10 battles each with stock captains and in strike setup to compare the results. I expected the IJN CVs to perform ~25% better in terms of damage and exp, but it was not the case. Bogue: Zuiho: The most importnat things are pretty much the same - avarage damage, WR and experience. You can grind both lines easily with strike setup, so the "stuck with useless fighters" argument is invalid. The tighter spread is really useful, the DBs are very good on manual drop and the AA is impressive. Look at the planes shot down on avarage - it's just the ship's AA in both cases and I was never killed by enemy CV in those 20 battles and I was attacked in 14 of them, 3 times by combined strike force. The avarage kills on the IJN CVs are clearly more, because with 3 TBs I was hunting for smaller targets and was killing the DDs trying to come for us (CVs). Their CV is also faster and I survived all battles, while the Bogue was not fast enough in 2 of the battles and I couldn't leave the collapsing flank. Conclusion: Both strike setups are viable option to grind the ships, the USN just have to focus BBs mostly, but there are always more then enough, while IJN is free to pick any target. Now you will probably say: Lul wut, tier 5 ~75K avarage damage, lolz?! And those 70-80% WR, gj, manual attacks are still viable, skill, etc ... DON'T!!! I'm probably more shoked then you, but I tried to play like starting player ... using the auto attack. Yes 90% of the attack are auto, I used manual only near islands where I knew the AI will mess the things up and the DBs against BBs were always manual (as it's well really easy). I don't know what avarage players do in those CVs, but if the damage is lower then it's because of bad target picking, bad timing between the attacks and wrong priorities on the map (to help the team and win, higher WR). CVs used to be skill ... now it's arty . Don't get me wrong, but you can play with your feets and still score lots of damage. I really don't want to be swarmed and killed by complete noob on the lower tiers when the OBT starts, because that's what happening now. The IJN spread is big, but with 3 squadrons I was just creating net from 3 different angles (coordinating to start the attacks at the same times) and was scoring 5-6 hits against evading BBs (same 6 would be against afk BB too, because of the spread) and after they wasted the repair the DBs and the fires were finishing them. It was always so easy to kill a DD, if you have the right timing on your attack, the torpedo net of 12 torps from 3 directions is 2 sure hits no matter what you do and the DD is toasted with the 2nd hit. I had harder time on the tier X airport hunting down DDs with those perfectly timed manual drops, now I just clicked few times and the DD was gone. The auto drop is dropping almost on the arming distance now, that was reserved for the skilled manuals drop before, while the auto attacks were easy to dodge even in BB... Great job WG, you successfully created "arty", you just forgot the RNG to lower the avg damage - random spread, malfunctioning torpedoes and so on, but it's not too late, I know you can do it! I really haven't played the low tier CVs since 0.3.0 (CBT start) in real matches on the live server and I had no idea they became such retarded thing on the lower tiers. The guy who decided that it's good idea to put tier X torps (8500 damage) on tier 5 where the ships don't have anti-torpedo protection and take massive damage + have lower hp pool was probably transfered from the WoWp balance department. If they don't want to launch another WoWp (which they pretty much made) they need new balance guys, ASAP! The high tier CVs are still fun and demanding to play. I'm focused the whole time, I attack only with manual drops and I have so many things to pay attention to. And that was the CV gameplay for me, it was the same even on the lower tiers, now it's not. Believe me if you want, but during the time I played those 20 battles today I was readings news, was active on the NA forum and wrote part of my next guide. I was really alt-tabing after I made the attack and had 3-4 minutes before those slow planes come back and land. Then new orders, waypoints course to avoid the enemy fighters and alt tab again for 2-3 minutes while they fly. I can't call that boring, because I was simply not playing during that time. Back in the alpha I was playing with the fighters while the strike package was unavailable. We joke that you can eat while you play arty in WoT, but with lower tier strike CV you can even cook your meal while playing
  16. It's problem if you have fighters. I played strike only and it doesn't matter if tier 4 or tier 7 fighters will intercept my bombers, they are toasted anyway and I had no avoid such encounters focusing on secondary targets.

    Sorry for spamming Aerroon's topic but they are the same as artillery, AA rating and so on, more points = more power. Only WG know how is this calculated, but it's enough to know every flight deck is unique and that's ready for a mod that will tell you the setup instead of you alt tabing and looking in a list (can't remember all).

    I wrote that in the spotting guide. So yeah there is no difference when it comes to planes. About the CVs - when you compare ships it shows you "aviation points" and every flight deck configuration has it's unique number. For example stock (balanced) Midway is the strongest (really fun for randoms if they fix the fighters) with 85 points, air superiority deck (3/0/2) is 84 points and strike Midway (0/2/3) is 83 aviation points. When you know those points you can learn the CV's flight deck configurations while loading.

    He was probably trying to get pink (team killer), I saw few guys ask for a team kill near the end of the battle. Pink CV is pretty cool when you 1shot noob BBs and they call you g.. start complaining in the chat Also on the PT it was possible to see the enemy CV's flight deck configuration while loading the battle (when you click compare ships and click on him), so I was planning my attack very well, because I knew if they have fighters and how many. And btw planes can't see you from 18 km. They have acquisition range of 11km (12.1 with the perk that is going to be removed in 0.4.0, so 11), so it doesn't matter if it's 13 or 18 km, they will still spot you only from 11km.

    Welcome to OBT and later release where the players who can play their tanks/planes/ships are minority. The PT was perfect showcase how the gameplay looks like with so many noobs and with the nex massive waves of player it will look exactly like that.
